Gears of War hits 2 million mark

oh man i can wait till gears 2...any talk about it yet? lol i realize that gow just came out but.... gow is deff one of the greatest games in history, game play, graphics, weapons (hammer of dawn has to be one of the sweetest weapons ever) i don't have xbox live so i cant comment on that...bottom line 9.6/10

Gears is probably game of the decade. Nothing can surpass its value. All the other games including Rainbow Six Vegas, Zelda, CoD3 look like total crap compared to Gears of War. Gears vs Resistance: FoM Gears dominates.

Too bad this is not game of the year, Oblivion is, I own both, Oblivion took 4 years to make for a reason.

Hands down this is game of the year. As Big of a Halo fan as I am. Bungi has their hands full with the upcoming release of Halo 3. Great job Epic!!

I would agree that Playing the arbiter in halo 2 really did dammage the story line. It changed what was alien into being human, before the covanant seemed like a marauding spicies, making you hate, and possibly fear them. After you become one, and can understand what they say, they become too human, they are no longer aliens, and the feeling of true sci fi combat is lost. Its like the Idea that its harder to kill your enemy once you know them(not physically but mentaly), because once you know them you learn of reasons not to fight them. I think Halo 2 would have been awesome if we never became the arbiter, but learned of him in the game, and possibly met up in certain points. If communication was required he should have talked in his tong, and cortana could have translated. This way you are a observer to the covenant dealings, while you are active in saving the world which is what halo is about.

"...Halo 2 did not ruin the Halo story, it created it." Erm, up to a point. I know the whole Arbiter plotline was necessary to get a full understanding of the story - but it just sucked. It was great understanding the covenant better but can you really say the story throughout was as gripping as the first? How you can suggest there wasn't a story in the first seems a bit daft also. And what is all this rip off thing about :P Killzone 2 a rip off of Halo 3? Resistance is a rip off of Gears of War? No it's just a shooter - there's bound to be some similarities as there's only so many situations you can justify shooting things. They all obviously are a rip off of the original Castle Wolfenstein anyway. :)

hey flex49, if the cover system and the reload system was all that for you ... good for you. not everybody else need to agree with you. as i said, the message boards are not only for those who are easily pleased. also, you say that i don't have friends. the thing is while you were playing with your "friends" online, i was out with mine at sports bars, clubs, movies ... get off that couch, drop those chips and try it sometimes. it's more fun than any game you've ever played in your life.

who cares--sure its a nice game graphically and all but its difficulty level is outrageous to hard to be fun--and sure multiplayer is cool but not as difficult to play as the game is-- but then again i didnt realize there were that many 360 systems sold out there

I'm getting Gears Of War for Christmas. I opened the courier pack this morning to admire my collector's edition. Can't wait to play it next week! (It'll be my 2nd 360 game, the other is Oblivion, both scored 9.6 at Gamespot). EDIT: Microsoft is a great publisher of games, I don't think they have any turkey's in their collection, at least on the PC side.

Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Gears Of War, Microsoft, Halo 3, true gaming at its finest. Go Microsoft! To LosDaddie, I agree Microsoft really knows how to make great games. I also agree that Resistance Fall Of Sony is just a rip-off of Gears Of War and that $ony's self-destruction will be the end to there unoriginality and people will no longer need to suffer through more cheap knock-offs such as Killzone 2 which is obviously a Halo 3 rip.

waylander7548 Where do you get the time to read? There are so many cool games out there with so little time (work), I am trying to find the extra time for R6:Vegas and COD 3 with the upcoming Lost Planet (not sure it's that great). But anyway, you must be a real GOW fan.

Even though the games multplayer is lacking alittle, its still good and prob that best game this year. The most underated game this year though is R:FOM

MSG-Deathscythe Gears of War is good but short and not challenging enough ... finished in under 9 hours or just 4 sittings ... awesome graphics but just another shooter which does not offer anything new or revolutionary ... no replay value. **** hey MSG, i've noticed you definitely have a chip on your shoulder whenever too much praise is given towards anything 360. GOW was better than "good" as you say. You definitely did not finish Insane difficulty in 9 hours and 4 sittings. Yes, the cover system has been used many times before but hasn't been as well implemented (love the rumble when you hit a wall) as other games. ** But the revolutionary & innovative feature that GOW did implement that will probably be copied by many FPSs in the future is the reload function. The GOW reload function was so unexpected and fun. It gave an extra challenge to the game. No replay value you say?....no game has used the co-op like GOW did. Do you have any friends? Co-op is GREAT!!! What happened to online play? Uhhh...no friends again?

Gears of War

GoW really could have done with one more chapter to the story just to take the single player over the 9-10 hour mark. Online is fun and all but it is very very hard for the majority (talking over 2 million sold remember) of gamers to enjoy. Regardless it will get game of the year, especially since it's main rival 'Resistance' was piss poor in comparison. Not to mention that nothing else has generated the press hype that Gears has this year.

It doesn't get discounted right away genius. That usually happens after the game has been out awhile after sales start to dip. Why discount a game when it's selling like hotcakes at full price?

Hey, if a game goes platinum isn't it discounted as a platinum hit? Where's the price drop? Yeah, right. I'm sure that will happen.

...Halo 2 did not ruin the Halo story, it created it. Halo 3 will be much larger simply because Bungie, in my opinion, is a more perfectionist studio and overall a better studio, than Epic. I get sick of playing Unreal in 5 different versions. But Myth, Marathon, they never get old Expect Halo 3 to be bigger than Halo 2. (aka beating the "highest grossing day in entertainment" set be Halo 2)

I wish I had more time to play this awesome game............................

optimusv2, before you call people a liar and a punk, put your transformer toys down for a bit before your mama grounds you. you see, shooters had been around forever and there had been improvements along the way: the better A.I., the greater graphics, etc. but the "revolutionary" cover system you are talking about has been around in some shape or form in many games for a while now, so don't give gow the props for it. that is why, this is just another shooter with great graphics. also, i said that it has no replay value as not everyone wants to play shooters over and over ... and over again ... especially of the same title. there are many other great genres out there that are fun to play too. so understand that when you go to message boards like this, that you'll see posts like mine too. it's not only for the easily pleased.

The 'BFB' is a Brumak, and the BFG is an Energy Pulse Cannon, and presumably we don't fight it because there needs to be something left to kill in the sequel. The woman talking is the Locust Queen. Marcus was too late to save his father, and he was arrested and imprisoned for desertion and cowardice. Presumably you'll find out more about the Locust if you buy Eric Nylund's novel.

Now that they got a hit, and an awesome one at that, the next one should dive deep into the story. I mean, there are MANY things left unsaid, cause they only concentrated on one aspect of the story: Get the tunnels mapped out and blow em to bits. Now since that is done, let's get back on teh story. Where did they [Locust] come from? Why? What is the reason behind the war? Why didnt we get to fight that BFB [Big Fracking Beast] with that BFG [Big Fracking Gun]? WHo is the woman talking? What happend when Marcus went back to rescue his father? I could go on... GoW, what we played, Im sure was just a test to see if the game would be a hit. Since that was verified, I hope Epic now makes a good and long story n the next one. The Multiplayer is great, but I love Single player campaign, hopefully in the enxt one you can have up to 4 co-op. GoW has teh potential to be great, which was proven with the big hit. But it also has teh potential to become greater. I just hope Epic does not do a Halo 2 and ruin the story.

Not hard to believe one bit... much props to the people at Epic. Not only did they make an awesome game for an awesome console, but if they follow the smooth sailing they got going all they have to do now is release some awesome download content and this game is cemented in history.

MSG I think you're lying your ass off. Gears is definitely challenging (unless you played on casual like a punk) A game that is suppose to a action game involving shooting doesn't need to do anything new or revolutionary just be an awesome experience with a nicely paced story, but gears of war's cover system is very revolutionary no other game as done it so well. Not to mention (and how I know you've never played gears) you claim it has no replay value. Anybody that plays the game knows its like a perfectly executed big budget action movie everything is done really well the voice acting is incredible, the music is incredible. Not just another shooter the game is amazingly unique.

I love Gears, but I love Rainbow 6 more. Gears is great but very over-rated. It's not the end all be all.

2 million in 2 weeks is pretty d*** impressive. with Christmas so close i would guess those numbers are going to get much better before years end.

360 one good game?? What drugs are you on cypher? What about R6? Splinter Cell? Viva Pinata (It is good, seriously), PG3, PDZ, just because they're not ALL killer apps, far out, not every game has to be one. Of the PS2's 2000+ games, how many are killer apps??? 2000+ games spanning over 6 years, how many killer apps?? Game you'd buy a PS2 for??? How many, 1!!!!! Thats it, 1!!! 2 if you love RPG's. God of War. Thats the only game. There are other 'good' or 'great' games, but only God of War is worth buying the PS2 for.
