Epic Games lead level designer speaks about torrented copies of Gears of War: Judgment.
Epic Games has discussed the leaked copy of Gears of War: Judgment that's been circulating online, saying that it's "ultimately going to be a good thing" for the game.
Last month, Gears of War: Judgment was leaked to torrent sites over a month before its release on March 19, leading Microsoft to declare that "vigorous action" will be taken on those who download an illegal copy of the title.
But Epic Games is trying to remain upbeat. Speaking to GameSpot at a London preview event for the game, lead level designer Jim Brown discussed how he sees the leak as a potential positive. "From my perspective, that tells me people are excited--that they want to get their hands on the game, which is a good thing, right?"
"I think that's ultimately going to be good for us," added Brown.
"I'm trying to look at it from the perspective of, ultimately, that if somebody is that interested that they feel the need to do that and risk their entire life, well, okay."
But what about the rest of the Epic Games team? "Obviously people are upset about it," concedes Brown, but adds that Microsoft and Epic have "got it covered, it's taken care of. Things are happening."
Gears of War: Judgment will be released on March 19 exclusively for Xbox 360. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
boring game. less than 5 hours. already finished it. hey, microsoft ! - i pirated it and guess what? i'm not going to put a penny to buy it cos it is crap for fanboys and even them will be having trouble swallowing it and if any gamesite will review it with high scores - than those reviews will show that they being paid by microcrap.
People Can Fly's take on GeoW. Not worth $60 for me....but some poeple follow brand more than devs. Not me.
Gears of War: Judgment leak ultimately a 'good thing' for.........me, because the information I gained from the pirates led to me deciding NOT to buy this game.
"risk their entire lives by downloading a leaked copy".. omg idiots it's just a game. why would you imprison a user who just makes use of his "internet" service.
Actually glad it leaked online, so people can have a deeper look into it on websites, to get a feeling if they should spend the money on the game, especially seeing as they have removed EVERYTHING from the game that was appealing about it.
Hopefully the additions will be good enough for removing the reasons why people play this game and in many cases actually got a 360 over a ps3
Case in point: Pirated copies of Tomb raider for XBox 360 and even PS3 have been available on torrent sites for a whole week now. Instead, illegal PC copies only started surfacing after the game's release, i.e. 5th March.
@ansabalirai pc games need time to be cracked, sometimes up to even a week
well, since it's the only decent 360 exclusive in a long time, who's surprised many are clamouring to get hold of it? It will still sell, regardless of this piracy.
i played the game and it's pretty good, not as good as the trilogy but it's okay. Before you all labeling me as a pirated, please let me inform you that in Indonesia, it's hard to get unmodded xbox 360 console and original copy of xbox 360 video games. Microsoft didn't officially sell their console here too, unlike Sony.
That is literally the worse excuse I have ever heard...........
@sensei_hEnRY well it was the same in india till 2006 when ms decided to release it officially here...since then i can say lots of people have changed their minds upon pirating games...piracy is still very much common here but its improved a hell lot specially in the console bussiness
@sensei_hEnRY Why wouldn't Microsoft officially sell Xbox 360's in Indonesia?
@96augment @sensei_hEnRY Piracy in Indonesia is a pretty common thing. Maybe that's the reason Microsoft won't bother with our market. We also have a very slow internet service, even if there is one fast enough to support online gaming, it's very expensive so Xbox Live service would be useless here.
The very reason why Sony officially sell their PS3, PSP, and now PSVita in indonesia is because they are unhackable at that time. I don't know if they will do it again with PS4.
@96augment @sensei_hEnRY Piracy is more than common in India too but 360 is still sold here. I am sure reason is something else.
@sensei_hEnRY If that's Microsoft's excuse, then it's a really dumb one. There are plenty of pirates on the PC. But that doesn't stop (most) companies from releasing games on the PC. If Microsoft would officially sell Xbox 360's in Indonesia, I'm sure that there would be plenty of people who buy it (instead of pirating).
and it isnt so bad. my m8 the pirate was showing off the torrented gears judgment over the weekend and everyone was so impressed they preordered it today. free advertising. boosted sales
I have a feeling the leak was intentional, let it out, get people to realise that even though the raped the origonal reasons people play, to show off it can still be a good thing.
Then as with all things, punish those who did it, but still make the £$ after getting free advertising
@Yamakoichi Actually it was intentional to ban those modded consoles. There is no way for MS to ban modded consoles other than to release a game early and some people are stupid enough to play in Live. Also, if you played your game early Live tracks the first time you boot the game so there is no way you won't get spotted other than wait for the game's actual release.
Great job on showing support for the PC market Epic Games! And being able to shrug off those gosh darn pirates that steal your games and don't let you see a single cent from it.
Oh wait..... we are talking about consoles...... what a backwards world we live in :/
PC gaming became outdated when games started being specifically designed to play on consoles, until there are games worth playing on the PC it is a dead market, which is why most new releases come out for 20 whereas games on consoles come out at 40-50.
I long since miss the days where beautiful games came for PC, but now we get dumbed downed releases or console exclusives.
Then again it is pretty easy to have a gaming rig and a console
@Yamakoichi PC gaming outdated? Almost every game multiplatform game released have a PC version except for Metal Gear Rising. Heart of the Swarm is due for release next week and that is a PC exclusive. Get your facts straight before commenting dude, PC gaming is more alive than ever. And games do come out more beautiful than ever in PC but you need to support it with a decent set-up.
Point missed, read my post before commenting a reply dude.
Was getting at multiplatform releases are normally designed for consoles first, which means PC end up getting a dumbed down. People do love to go on about how much better it looks in PC, but it is so barely obvious that it really has no merit anymore, there use to be a huge gap.
Atleast some good exclusives do remain, which most of them are quickly falling to just MMOs. Not a big fan of starcraft 2 personally, prefer 1
Wasn't piracy on PC one of the main reasons that Epic went to consoles?? But now that there games are getting pirated just as much on consoles, they just shrug it off like they don't even care. Wow, way to be fair guys.
Bring the Gears games to PC if it doesn't bother you that much. Hell, you could be surprised of how much cash you'll make.
@guudgidga I totaly agree, they comment thinking that people care what they think.
@Yamakoichi @bochog3 @guudgidga What specs did you "waste" your money on? Just curious. You'd have to get a GPU of at least GTX650 Ti and above to get a decent experience with a 1650x1080 resolution. (Low to mid settings on 60 FPS). Those GTX 640 and below are left to people playing MMO and MOBA games.
