New Internet destination for Epic Games' shooter divulges some of the game's backstory.
Gears of War doesn't hit stores until next month, but Epic Games is already letting its story unfold online. The game's Web site has been revamped and now concentrates on setting up the game's plot through backstory. When Web surfers visit the site, they're treated to grainy security-cam footage of protagonist Marcus Fenix pacing in a jail cell. Suddenly, the screen goes dark, and players guide Marcus' hand across a wall where they can select from four videos that give a glimpse into what happened before the infamous Emergence Day. Gears of War is scheduled for release on November 7, with nationwide availability by November 12.
If you can't load the videos, its not the sites fault. Works fine on my PC. To those that don't like Viral Marketing, please get a clue, this is a product, and they have to advertise if they want to reach people who aren't on GS, IGN, or 1UP almost daily. This site will build buzz amongst a community that may not necessarily like videogames, unless they have that ammount of advertising bandwidth.
sounds great... looks great.... if the web design is a sign of the game play to come we are in for some innovation...!
PS3 is soooo boned. Gears, WOW: BC, Wii all drop within one or two days of the PS3. I just don't understand how sony expects to beat out the 360 and the Wii. There going to get murdered this holiday for every five copies of G.O.W. that gets sold MS will sell two 360's. Burning Crusade and the Wii will soak up the rest of the damage. Don't worry WOW & Wii fans with Sony's bullet ridden corpse being large and bloated there will be plenty to eat on Black Friday ha ha ha.
This game is gonna be awesome the best part about the website for me was the fact I have surround sound speakers on my comp so I turned that thing up full blast it was like a damn movie. Anyway I wanna try to go to that website at night and try that some sounds in there were pretty creppy.
I was thinking this was just a over hyped game with no good story or backing but im starting to think otherwise.
I personally loved the site. Though i know that M$ was mostly behind it. Similar to the xbl messaging thing that happened a while ago, Cliffy B said he knew about it just as long as we had. M$ is a very powerful corporation, but i dont mind their promoting when the game is going to be as kickass as GOW will be.
am I the only one to remember Perfect Dark Zero doing this as well? I think the site is still up too, it was pretty much the same thing, little interactivity to give you useless information. I seriously think kids got way too caught up in the hype with this game... that is untill I downloaded the E3 walktrhough from Xbox Live (it's under IGN Insiders videos)
That website if u got the message was able to be seen since tuesday so its pretty old to me at least
Can we say 'Anticipation'? Good lord, this game is gonna be off the HOOK! I can't wait 'till Emergence Day! Hopefully the multiplayer won't be as glitchy and laggy as some of the other would-be-good online multiplayers like Saints Row.
Thank you tim. I see no issue with pointing out that gamespot is over 24 hours late in posting a piece of news. I did it in a joking manner as well, I wasnt being a jerk about it.
Shtinky sez: "i hate these viral sites, just get to the freaking point and show me the screens, trailers in a normal way. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah! Who wants creativity and fun in a website or video game!
Damn, its been a year + already. i remeber the feelin i had when i first saw screens of this Game, more then a year ago. I hope it doesn't Dissapoint me. Cause that would be a Big blow Against MS. and if this Game stinks, it'll be a Major + for Sony.
