Public demo focusing on opening sequence for upcoming action game now available to download on PlayStation Network.
A single-player God of War: Ascension demo is now available to all PlayStation Network users, Sony has announced. The demo is set during the action game's opening sequence and lets players try out Kratos' new combat skills.
In addition, Sony has released the God of War: Ascension launch trailer. Embedded below, the trailer explains some of the backstory for the game and shows off enemies that players can expect to take on during the campaign.
God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the original trilogy that will tell Kratos' origin story. It is due out March 12, 2013, exclusively for the PlayStation 3, and includes a series-first multiplayer mode. For more on God of War: Ascension, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
@Gamer_4_Fun I wouldn't say the demo itself was boring, but it definitely doesn't compare with the GoW3 demo.
The ending really REALLY sucked though. The GoW3 demo ended with a huge bang. Kratos was flying through the air to smack a titan in the face. This one ends with you "apparently" getting crushed....yay
It definitely didn't make me want this one more than GoW3
@Gamer_4_Fun No they shouldnt. Go back to playing ni no kuni.
Now I am not a GOW knowledge nut or anything, but if this is an origin story shouldn't Kratos not be covered in the ash of *spolier stuff*? Yeah, I just did that. It just seems if this happened before GOW 1 that the little moment where that happens wouldn't have happened yet. Blah :)
@MidnightMeteor If the storyline before he kills his wife & daughter the answer is no he shouldn't. But if it tells us after that then yes, he should.
you have to be a real fan of gow now i think to want this, it looks beautiful as always but its getting tired.
@Supabul Same here. The GoW3 demo made you WANT the game because it ended with Kratos about to slash a titan's eye out.
This one had a "That's it??" kind of ending
@lifegee13 Yeah, no. 600-700$.
@lifegee13 Lol. Maybe if you live in 1999.
@lifegee13 No, you don't. At most, maybe a thousand dollars.
hey spoters just a tip, the framerate and graphics of the 3rd GOW Demo was much inferior to the final product so whatever ur gonna enjoy on the demo u can expect to get better.when the game is out(:
P.S: therev is a video on youtube if u wanna compare the demo to the actual product for ur convenience.
One hell of another awesome gow demo. day 1 purchase for me. I haven't had a gow game. let me down yet. keep them coming atleast it always delivers on what it says its gonna be and that's awesome gameplay this game is gonna rock like the rest of them did and still do.
@constantterror That's because they release them every few years and not one every single year like other games (Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty) at least it gives them time to come up with fresh things plus the story is fantastic.
Demo didn't feel like a legit GOW. Felt a little flat and it didn't help the 5.1 sound also felt flat because it was PCM.
Made me think twice about my pre-order.
Freaking awesome one-of-a-kind EPIC. The game looks fantastic. No wonder why there're so many games (Darksiders, Dante Inferno, Cattlevania: Lord of Shadow, etc.) that have followed the path of this masterpiece tittle.
@DiamondDM13 you found that demo short? I kept on saying, OK, it will finish here. No? Holy crap this is a long demo. I thought it was fantastic. I love the new look of Kratos and the new blades. This demo definitely has me wanting more.
@Oldboy08 Well, it took me about 20 min to finish it and I wanted to go one for at least another 40 min...
And I've already pre.ordered the game last week, but I still wanted to get some more playtime in the demo.
@DiamondDM13 @Total_mischief @f1elds @Oldboy08 Ya,deff needed a harder difficulty. But why would you want more before the game release? IMO Ive seen enough to wait for 2 weeks. I went to EBgames and pre-ordered my copy this morning and I just cant wait to play the game like you. TIll then Ill go back to GOW3 and try to beat that damn Cerberus boss on Titan.
@Total_mischief @DiamondDM13 @f1elds @Oldboy08 I'm sorry, disappointment? Who's disappointed? :s I'm actually pretty happy with what I've played, I just wish it would go on for another 40 min because it was just so damn good... Only little thing I would like would be to be able to play the demo in Very Hard diff....
@DiamondDM13 @f1elds @Oldboy08 inFamous is an open world game. Massive difference. You're rarely gonna get a full hour of gameplay in a linear game's demo. 20 minutes is pretty standard. Everyone wanted to go on for another 40 minutes of course, but think about it for a few minutes and you'll see how that wouldn't happen and that it's no cause for disappointment.
Also, there are demos that allow up to 1 hour of gameplay. I remember playing inFamous demo and not even finishing it, but taking over 1 h to get to that point...
Indeed a GOW game. Amazing from the beginning to the end no matter how many sequel it has I wanna have it. :)
It's honestly the same game with a few combat alterations and the same blueprint from almost all the previous games. The boss battle has elements reminiscent of the Hydra boss from GOW1 and the Colossus from GOW2. Another example, "Rage" is nothing more than a combo restriction as far as I can tell from the demo. In previous God of Wars, you had the multiple Normal hits finished up with a Heavy move. Now, you have to wait until that little meter fills up to be able to do the original combos from every other GOW?
I'm really hoping they switch things up with this game, but from what is being demoed, it looks like more GOW. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm just meh at this point. It's gorgeous, superbly animated and all, but I'd much rather see Santa Monica Studios move on to something new. Fingers crossed that this will be the final GOW and we get a new IP with PS4 from them.
@DaNubianPryns In that case you should quit gaming and life as we know it just as gaming is repeative so is life you sleep, eat, poop, work and play and rinse and repeat every single day nothing new in life either so deal with it and leave Krato's to his own loving to kill stuff cause he's awesome like that.
@DaNubianPryns Nope when people start to cry about wanting something new the developers end up screwing it up. Just stick with the can't miss formula that everybody loves.
@Doobsac @DaNubianPryns Sometimes it's better to leave folks wanting more. the longer a franchise goes on the more chance it has of losing quality. A winning formula only works until folks get tired of it. some things are better resolved in a meaningful conclusion. Better to leave the audience wanting more, than sully a legacy. It happens very often that games series become mediocore after so many sequels, that or they survive off of Madden/Mario/COD syndrome.
@DaNubianPryns I feel you, I feel like the series would have been more epic if they'd have just left as a trilogy, no side games just the three. Can't really say that any of the games are or have been bad but don't milk it
