Sources close to Rockstar Games say latest installment in blockbuster franchise is already getting final touches; 2012 release "pretty likely."
Saying that Rockstar Games is working on a new Grand Theft Auto game isn't exactly a bold prediction. However, sources close to the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary have confirmed to GameSpot that the next installment in the blockbuster series is "well under way" and is already having final touches such as minigames being applied to it. The sources said a 2012 release was "pretty likely," adding that the game's scale was vast.
"It's the big one," they said.
Unfortunately, the sources would not divulge any further details on the project, which is already the subject of much speculation. A recent set of casting calls from a talent agency point to the game as being set in a Los Angeles-like metropolis, with a motley crew of California characters being filled for a voice-over session. Prior rumors had the game being set in the Miami clone Vice City.
As of press time, Rockstar reps did not have any comment on casting calls, the game's setting, or whether a new GTA was even in development.
Wherever the next GTA is set, it will have some big shoes to fill. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto IV, was a massive success for Rockstar and Take-Two. As of March 2011, the game had sold nearly 20 million copies, placing it among the top-selling games of all time. Its forebearer, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, sold more than 12 million units globally, with its domestic 9.8 million-unit haul putting it in NPD's top 10 US best sellers of the 2000s.
why don't they include a new feature, which is the use of trunk space in a car. It would make it a little more special to have a specific car that you store weapons and other stuff in. Think about a SWAT truck and all the armor and weapons you could have in there. That would be crazy.
@stevieko5454 You can already carry an RPG, a machine gun, a pistol, a baseball bat, an SMG, grenades and a shotgun, wear body armour and a parachute all at the same time. Nice idea but it wouldn't really work unless they made it really realistic and you could only carry a few weapons - and that would just be tedious and make the game a lot less fun.
i HOPE this one is MASSIVE! I mean who wants a game that only takes a week to finish? wheres the fun in that? also really hoping the graphics are amazing if not i wont be buying it, and thats a fact.
It will be the first GTA game i dont own also the first gta game i haven't picked up day 1 or pre-ordered (except for 1-2 and london) but NO+RDR+PC=BOYCOTT R*
I just hope this one has some "real" myths in it. That's the best part about GTA. Even though Ratman was bull crap, I don't know how many hours I spent in the subway looking for that f*****.
Can we keep GTA V's openworld in what ever camera perspective we choose? If we choose firstperson perspective in a vehicle can we walk around the world in GTA V in the firstperson with out being forced into 3rd person?
mister_scowl said: @mrklorox: Do you have some exclusive insider info? As far as I know Agent is still set as a PS3 exclusive. Reply: Sorry it took so long to notice this in my inbox. To answer your question, Jack Tretton himself let it slip that Sony no longer had Agent as an exclusive in an E3 interview with Geoff Keighley on the GTTV live broadcast during the expo. Sorry I can't be more precise as there are dozens of hours of footage on their website from E3 2011. It's definitely in there somewhere though.
how about it be in San Andreas and Vice city, oh and not to be too hasty but could you tell us when bully 2 is coming out its been like 7 YEARS!!!!!! also could you put more jobs in GTA V and planes and more cheats and make the online more flexible. And it would be great if you could be in prison, storyline or free time, free time preferably.
Id like to see better vehicles that have different feels when driving. bring back the tanks, more in depth missions. Bigger map, more buildings to enter is something they should work on such as robbing random stores, minigames inside the buildings, put more realestate in the game, i want to actually spend this money on what i want, like yachts, mansions, stores, I want to feel like I went from nothing to the world is mine in this game.
@wellus You couldnt get haircuts in GTA4, just clothes and accessories. Instead of weight lifting and haircuts, they should focus on a variety of guns and melee weapons along with weapon custimization(it would be nice if we could have EVERYTHING but limited space). They should also add the smoother shooting, like the shooting mechanics of red dead redemption along with the nasty bullet wounds of red dead redemption. Seeing how R* is working so hard on GTa5 I doubt this game will fail. Maybe craptivision could learn a thing from R*.
I really hope to see more versatile air combat like in San Andreas, but to a realistic point of approach. Also in missions where you have to chase down an enemy, I would like to see a gadget that is a G.P.S tracking device to shoot onto vehicles, so that you don't have to continuously start over the same chasing mission over and over again.
Sounds great. hope they give the player the opportunity to "buy" clothes/hats/haircuts/accessories because that was a great option in GTA L.C & I really dont see why they made the decision to remove that from the recent gta's. It would be excellent if they recycled the option to workout and chose your players weight/muscle tone & learn new fighting skills. to me it makes no scence why they would leave such things out. maybe its because these ideas are old :/. either way it will be a great game!
I hope they take the shooting and cover system from RDR and add them to this game. GTA4 shooting was a bit clumsy...while RDR improved on it giving you more camera scope while shooting. RDR also bought more realistic lookin impact wounds to the table that amped up gunplay. If Gta5 is anythign like RDR it will be amazing. I really hope the campaign is 30 hrs long again like GTA 4(short expansion size campaigns suck).
im kinda dissapointed, i was hoping that we wouldnt see the next gta until the new consoles started rolling out....the current consoles are getting way outdated and i doubt we will see a game on the scale of san andreas with good graphics with current gen consoles.
I reckon they'll say Oct 2012 for release and then push it back to April 2013 to bump sales for that tax year (and increase hype). I dont care though, just glad to hear there making another one:) :). Although I REALLY hope Im wrong, 2013 is too far away:(.
O ya can't wait for this game! I hope they max this game out, like they did in San Andreas putting in customize cars, making your guy rip and the best part flying PLANES AND JET PACKS! :) ALSO REMEMBER HOT COFFEE! LOL
@WCK619 As weird as this seems to you, imagine that GTA IV took place ONLY in Liberty City (which it did), and had up to 2 other games made for GTA IV's map. Now, since GTA V is in the works, you'll have about 2 MORE games that take place in San Andreas! :)
hope we can destroy stuff like walls and bridges break trees, also add military stuff like tank, apc, helicopter, missile lock, jet (although i don't think the consoles would take that much), double the weapons and add special ammo, more fashion, vehicle shops (for cars, boats, helis, tank, weapons), and of course better music than IV and more Lazlo and talk shows :P
Man I just hope they use better music and get rid of the stupid "dates" stuff. That garbage made me stop playing the game after only a few hours.
Is it really going to be called GTA V though? That doesn't really make sense in the scheme of the naming system. Ever since GTA III it's been like... GTA III (Liberty City) GTA Vice City GTA San Andreas GTA IV (Liberty City) Wouldn't make more sense to call the next one GTA Vice City 2 or GTA IV: Vice City?
I'm sure whatever they come up with here will be incredible. There needs to be more things to do in freeroam though, especially online. There's much potential to the multiplayer freeroam that just doesn't get utilized the way it should.
I hope they ditch the "friends" thing from GTA4. Just got annoying that i'd have to do boring mundane things with a friend to stop my relationship (and the bonus i got form them) deteriorating.
All I want is, the shooting and cover system from GTA IV and the rest of the content, world, game like San Andreas. It would be the perfect GTA
My only wish for this game to have the same features and content like San Andreas plus more. Go back to putting your top priority to Gameplay instead of Graphics.
GTA is one of the few games that remained unchanged(it even got better) after the release of the third/fourth part of the series.
