[UPDATE] Rockstar confirms details on setting, scope for latest installment in open-world crime series, promises "bold new direction" in storytelling, online multiplayer.
Property values in San Andreas are about to plummet, as Rockstar today released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, revealing a return to the Golden State-inspired setting of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
The trailer features a montage of California-esque sights, such as wind farms on hillsides, muscle beaches, urban squalor, migrant fruit pickers, national parks, sprawling metropolitan areas rife with skyscrapers and shantytowns, and the distinctive sign for the movie-mad city of Vinewood (San Andreas' answer to Hollywood). An unseen protagonist narrates the commercial, explaining why he moved to the area.
"I wanted to retire," he explains, "from what I was doing, you know? From that…that line of work. Be a good guy for once. A family man."
The narrator then expresses a desire to raise his kids as a normal dad but laments, "You know how it is." The trailer also shows glimpses of the series' signature antisocial behavior, with a crew of men dressed as pest-control workers bringing assault rifles into a building, prostitutes chatting with potential tricks, and of course, people fleeing the cops, both by car and on foot.
Grand Theft Auto V has to live up to considerable expectations. Last year, Take-Two Interactive revealed that 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV sold more than 17 million copies worldwide, and the franchise has topped 100 million units sold since its 1998 debut.
[UPDATE]: Rockstar today officially confirmed Grand Theft Auto V was in "full development," and would see the game return to the city of Los Santos "and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches." The developer also said it was the largest game it had ever created and would be focused "on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California." Rockstar also promised that Grand Theft Auto V would represent a "bold new direction" in mission-based gameplay, storytelling, and online multiplayer.

I am more of a GVA fan than a Saints Row fan but their most recent release was pretty good. I hope GVA incorporates some of the car and weapon customization you see in SR and overall more freedom and side missions. I like the idea of multiple players being involved in the sotry line. Have a couple players to pick from would be great. the story having a couple different missions depending on who you pick but ultimately ending the same.

aaa i hope that car modding planes and trains are back oooo and a proper tank i loved doing tank vs train and plane vs train.... the train always won XD
Its been 4 years since the last one and this one looks better but not that much.I think they have been working on it for awhile and the video shows alot for it to be a game they just started. I think we'll get this epic GTA before the end of 2012 maybe in june, july or august

@Santesyu yeah haha that would be cool...Niko, Tommy, CJ, Claude, Victor, all of the protagonists from every GTA get together in Modern times (so they are all aged appropriately), brought together by some super higher up for some epic mission...and the whole game could be divided up into sections where you control a few of the key protagonists (i.e. tommy niko CJ, it would be too many to divide up the game for ALL of them) and the whole game could center around prerperation, building a team, getting everything you need, smaller missions that all lead to one final goal, and it could take place over the course of multiple cities...SA, LC, VC, somewhere new, etc. Except, that would be nearly impossible with current technology to make a game that huge. Maybe one day lol
i will really hate rockstar if they dn't release a pc version of this game.. I , anyways, still have some hope that it will be released.. kind of what happened with gta IV i guess.. yet still i can strongly say.. PC"s FTW!!!!!!
I wouldn't put it past anybody that a PC version will be made, but well after the console version has been released, they did the same thing with GTA IV, why would this game be any different?
sigh......sad, no PC, guess they love turn people off......really make me a good reason to puke on those who think console exclusive is a must, can't everyone get a hands on it, I mean I play the entire GTA series on PC cause I can't have the privilege to own console, SAD
@MN121MN Yeah but GTA 4 pc wasn't as good as the console counterparts...besides later mods but big deal Vanilla GTA4 on consoles is much better than Vanilla PC

Does anybody think this will take a year to actually finish? I mean, it looks like the same engine as IV, so they wouldn't really have to "build" an entirely new game. Like they did with the ps2 games. I'm not too sure how to make a game. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

He didn't sound like he was lamenting to me, more like "easy money is easy" I don't think the main char will go back to a life of crime forced, like CJ, rather he'll go back by his own choice. I can already imagine GTAV kicking about the same way as RDR was when Marston gets back to his ranch. Bet in GTAV the first few missions you'll go get groceries, teach kids to drive etc etc
Yet the game is only destined for consoles.... Seriously, though I admire console, this game would really and I mean REALLY put it to the test. But the future of playing this game rests with PC. With just a few improvements on your PC rig you could play this game easily. While in console, you're bugged by the outperformed processor.... (outperformed from PC)
Lol, R* thinking we needed them to confirm it's location, seriously Dan don't you know your players better than that? But I'm still willing to bet we're seeing a return of Tommy Vercetti, the words of the narrator sounds like a man involved in the "family business", Tommy would be significantly older now and the damn man looks like him! Certainly the voice actor is different, but who's to say it's permanent? Ray Liotta could make a return, but only time will tell.
i hope they studied the reasons people liked san andreas but just make this version even fresher with more customizable things to make and buy
you know i hope they will be back things that we can do in GTA SA and make car dealers and bike dealers bring back trains and we can buy clothes,houses,weapons and we can learn new moves and we can get tattoo and we can create our characters bring back the upgrade of a car and bring back the planessssss!!!!!!! we need a mix of GTA SA and IV!!
