GTAIII, Vice City rated for PlayStation 3
Entertainment Software Ratings Board listings indicate PlayStation 2 games rereleasing for the PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network.
While Rockstar Games' upcoming Grand Theft Auto V might have fans focused on the future of the franchise, the next move for the series will have them looking to the past, according to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.
The ESRB recently published ratings for PlayStation 2 titles Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto Vice City for release on the PlayStation 3. The games were not rated for additional platforms.
In October, Sony announced its Only on PSN program, through which PS2 titles see release via the PlayStation Network. Other recent additions to the program include ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
As of press time, Rockstar had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

@MEDzZ3RO I meant original PS2 games, not HD versions.
that would be great to have the triple pack for ps3 ! the tombraider etc. turned out just dandy !
I'm happy.
@theKSMM just get PS3 60gb and upgrade the HDD.
@VenkmanPHD - Oh, I know. I'm just reiterating what Rockstar said. They specifically said they're bringing Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto III to mobile devices "in HD". Their words, not mine. I agree that the PC version is best but sometimes it's hard to run them adequately without crashing on Windows 7.
Whether or not a publisher decides to re-release its games in HD or not misses the point here. The program is for exclusive PlayStation downloadable content and PS3-compatible PS2 titles. The real point here is that Sony . I still have GTA3 and Vice City discs...why should I have to pay again to play them? The irony is that the XBOX 360's software-implemented backwards compatibility is way better than what the PS3 has provided.
@DrRockso87 Gta's mobile graphics are barely if at all more "HD" than the PC version. You will find many articles about this. Guaranteed rockstar will do the same thing with their ps3 port.
why they don't do a remake for PC of vice city stories and liberty city stories :(.
This is all fine and dandy, but after playing these ps2 era gta games on pc I will never go back. Don't get me wrong, console gaming is way way better, never have to update your hardware for the cost of a new console just to make the game run on medium performance... PC gaming always has mods though, and when you can customize a game to that level it just IS the superior version. If console game modding ever becomes legitimate than I will kiss PC gaming goodbye forever.
hell i will pay 30$ for each of them provided they are in HD with trophies. but if its part of the PS2 classics with no trophies then me not buying it
An HD remake of Vice City on PS3 would be much appreciated (at $10 or less, please). I've been playing GTAIII on my iPhone and it's pretty good (exception is my finger moves off of the steering controls too much).
Well, that's disappointing. I'd much rather see HD remakes. Ya know, no offense to Rockstar but this is pretty lazy of them. They "remake" 'Grand Theft Auto III' on mobile phones in "HD" yet we get crappy, standard ports? Give us a Grand Theft Auto HD collection and Max Payne HD collection, Rockstar. Do that and I'll easily drop $40 for both.
@ Double_Wide So don't buy it, dude. I for one said goodbye to Vice City when my ex moved out and took it with her. No way I was calling that girl back, even for such a great game. I will definitely buy this version, redone in a new aspect ratio and allowing me to play it without dragging out and patching my PS2. Thanks Rockstar and PSN.
i think this will be good especially for those gamer who had strict parents when they were younger who didnt allow them to play 18s or those who are new to gaming etc also they should put GTA san andreas VCS and LCS with this
Man, the new HD remakes are just an excuse to get people to pay more money to buy games they already have and not for Sony to invest the money to make the next gen console have full backwards compatibility.

HD remakes is always good but the releases I'm personally looking for is the Shenmue series and if their going to do GTA III and Vice City they definitely need to do San Andreas (of course Shenmue will be on the PSN)
Arrrrrrrrr man. If Vice City is released in HD then I am totally re-buying that masterpiece!!! Trophies?! HELL YES!! :D
anyways if it is an hd remake then I'll get them if they are just straight ports then I probably wont since I already have them and a day one 60 gig ps3 also they should stop release ps2 games on psn has they are and do hd remake of them and then release them both on psn and disc and make the digital version cheaper (like what they are doing with the vita games)
@yeebsey actually trophy support is now a must and look at the last few hd remakes they all had trophy support in fact all hd remakes has trophy support but not ps2 tittles being release on psn
strange is still of you still got a working ps3 from the first series you can play your old ps2 version without costs xD sadly not many of the first ps3 are still alive my was dead after 1.5 years
@raev92 dont worry, final fantasy X hd is in development for ps3 and vita already i own these games but i will probably buy them again. trophy support would be nice but probs wont happen
id rather have the warriors 2 player online co-op would be awesome in that game.....manhunt would also be nice..i already own gta 3 and vice city so does alot of people so i dont like this..
GTA is cool Sony. Now go get Square-Enix and bring FFX to PSN!!!
I see what you did there Sony. Cut built-in BC when it was a heavily touted feature at launch then have the games tweaked to run on the PS3 later anyway. All part of your plan to try to get gamers to buy a game more than once.
If its a straight port, I think I'll pass. The GTAs haven't age too well and could use a little love in sharpness and the range area of spawning vehicles and people.
Set them nostalgia traps, Take-Two! :P
Not that simply having backward compatibility would have also been great. Oh, right, they cut that so they could resell these games and fleece gamers.
No GTA SA? The best in the series is left out? Thats fine, I still got my PS2 goin strong.
PS2 classics? Sony still hasn't brought any of them to EU, UK or AU. They announced they were doing it, and said it would happen late 2011, but still no sign yet. When I saw the title, I was hoping for a retail HD pack. Oh well.
So when are Vice City and San Andreas coming to ios and android devices? Haha. That's what I'd like to see...
Kinda sad that my PS2 still gets play because Sony killed backwards compat and I'm not stupid enough to buy a game I've already bought once.. Well okay I do sometimes, but still.
Xbox live has a limit of 2 gig for downloadable titles on XBLA. Both of these games exceed that figure. For them to be released on Xbox, they would need to be sold under 'games on demand'
How many times are they going to re-release these and on how many systems??? I know they are awesome games but come on, let 'em sit awhile then bring 'em back as HD remakes. Whatever, I'm looking forward not backward and I'm waiting to hear more about GTAV, I want to know if they are moving away from GTAIV's style and more to the awesomeness that was GTA Vice City and San Andreas....
While I am glad they are bringing them out, I am a little disappointed for 2 reasons: 1. San Andreas isnt there and 2. they are not coming out in shops as a 'GTA triple pack HD remake', I don't like downloading games, I much prefer having the game as a hard copy in my hands
At least Sony seems conmitted to bringing more PS2 Classic to PSN.
Why no San Andreas? And why no 360? Eh, at least I do own a PS3 too but it would be nice to get 360 achievements out of them.
I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say these are coming to XBLA too since the lack of San Andreas would make more sense there because San Andreas is already downloadable on the 360 as a Xbox classic.
i can live without vice city but i hope gta3 comes to 360 or ill just rebuy a ps2 copy the tank code was one of my favorite things about this game aside from it being the 1st 3d version
Plus if Rockstar games starting reasleing old ps2 games on psn would be make sense if they start realseing there old gta games and other old ps1 games as well?
I'm not buying because there not in HD. I rather see a GTA HD collection vol 1 and vol 2 of gta games in full HD and tropics support like god of war hd collection vol 1 and 2 and MGS HD collection, sly cooper hd collection and jak and daxter hd collection and devil may cry hd collection. So Plz Gamespot send mg to rockstar games we want gta HD collection before gta5 come out . So would pp buy there games again on stream even there not in hd the aswer is no . If there is no HD collection coming out i rather stick to my old ps2 ones :[
@Nemesis958 Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico, God Of War 1 and 2, Sly Cooper trilogy, Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Splinter Cell trilogy...etc... to name but a few I've noticed.
@hyksiu Bundled with GTA V if these two come out on PSN, I guarantee it.
I want to see these in HD.
It's about time they started releasing PS2 games on the PSN.It's off to a pretty poor start though, but once games such as these start to get released that won't be a problem anymore.
ICO and SOTC may have been ps2 classics, but they weren't released as ps2 classics, they were remastered.
But where's San Andreas?
I was looking at picking these up from the used book store, but glad I held off. Hopefully there are no licensing issues for the music.
If we're re-releasing PS2 Rockstar games, please oh please, put The Warriors out!
Put out an HD collection of all three PS2 entries instead, and I'll gladly hand over my money! :O
