GTAIV, Media Molecule top Spike's VGAs

Now, everyone can have and has an oppinion.. I just say I dont agree - GTA 4 ? (PC) + the Best game ? Sorry, that doesnt really link together in my oppinion..

Thank god they didn't pick crappy gear solid 4. Bad enough gamespot picked that as game of the year, despite it having the worst story i have every came across in a game. Only reason anyone likes it is becuase they make the story seem alot bigger than it actually is.

Left 4 Dead is the better shooter.

fallout 3 is the rightful winner, i hated GTAIV and yes deadspace should have been in the mix the people at "spike" got it all wrong

shameful for GTA IV to win this. shameful for Gamespot to hand it a 10. and pointing out Niko's voice acting as a plus!? am i losing my mind here? the voice acting in this game drove me crazy!

Ok out of MGS 4, GEoW2, LBP, and fallout 3, The award goes to GTA IV...??? THis is why I the VGA's suck, The show has been a crock of $hit since it started. GTA IV should get "Most Dissappointing Game of theYear" award. The other 4 games are clearly superior to this. LBP, MGS4, or Fallout 3 would've been my vote, screw the VGAy's

I'm sick and tired of the GTA4 dong-suck. It is seriously the most over-rated game in the history of games. Massively over-rated. In fact, I will go on record in saying that I get more enjoyment from Super Puzzle Fighter, a downloadable 10 buck game than I did from GTA4. GOTY???? Seriously???? Garbage.

@ AdamK47 I know what you mean, It seemed almost an embarrassment getting a Spike VGA. The most notable instance was award the World of Goo creator with "best independent game fueled by Dew". Poor guy creates a great, unique game and gets an award that screams corporate sellout more then any other award in the history of awards. The look on his face said it all. I Wish he grabbed the award, smashed it on the ground, and yelled "I fking Hate Mountain Dew", then use his gooballs to construct a scaffold for him to escape via roof pipe. Maybe he would come out on the other side and be at a REAL VGA show that isn't full off washed up celebs and overhype.

Not sure about Spike's choices, although, I would have a hard time picking a game of the year and I suppose GTA4 is right up there. Best Wii game in 2008 was No More Heroes... nothing else comes close to it. Fallout 3 was a great game, but its flaws should keep it from being game of the year. That game has some serious limitations you can't really ignore in the end. Lack of unique and craftable items, relatively short playtime for all sides/main quest completion, and dialog bugs. (Example: Blow up megaton, and all thats left is a mutilated Moira that says the same thing as she does in her shop, and all I can ask her is 'can you repair my stuff'. Would it have killed them to add a few dialog options like 'wtf happened here?' or something. plus hundreds of other dialog that just doesn't match the situation you are often in). How about the famed Karma system, where you can kill a person in their sleep without penalty, but stealing a cup off the decease's kitchen table after murdering them is evil! I often wonder what this game could have been if it wasn't all 'Bethusda-y' all over the place.

Seems like a fair list. But it's not set in stone. It's not law. One needs not to agree with Spike, or anybody except themselves.

GOTY is Metal Gear Solid 4. Only hype gave it to GTA4.

This seems to be based on all the games that are most hyped rated.

I'd actually consider it a dishoner to whoever was "honored" on this sham of an awards show. I felt dirty watching just 2 minutes of it.

I love GTA, but I think the GOTY award should have been given to MGS 4. Other than that, all the awards are pretty wisely distributed. Anyway.

I agree that Burnout: Paradise won Best Driving game because it continues to grow with awesome updates (even though "Big Surf Island" is paid-content). What I've noticed was that Burnout series won in '04, '05' '06' and '08' every mainstream Burnout game that came out in those years... yes that includes the 360 edition of Revenge except 07' because Dominator was a disappointment. Rock Band 2 wins best soundtrack and best music games because Harmonix knows they can make better games. Guitar Hero makes charts for most fun and RB2 makes charts for most accurate. Can someone tell me why SSBB didn't win Best Wii Game? L4D definately best multiplayer game.Can't wait to play The Lost and the Damned on GTA IV.

I agree with most of the awards, although I feel that Resistance 2 should have won the best multiplayer award and I don't think GTA IV should have won GOTY. That's just opinion though...

Looking at that list I have to say they weren't taking many chances were they? Really playing along with the hype, jeesh. I guess we have about the same list since over here it's voted upon them by gamers and that means a lot of fanboyism. These awards are nothing more then popularity contests if you ask me, I rather see game awards done by a critic who actually has an objective look at the games market so you can better see where real innovation is at. To me, all the good games that came out this year are all #1 to me.

And im not sure u would get bored fast as u would get bored in mgs4 u need to play all other mgs game b4 playing that so goodluck people if first time and fallout 3 is awsome but really it get boring so fast u just going to find your father wow AN Adventure to find your dad how great like gta4 deserves all of it and it didint win ps3 or 360 awards becuz its for both console people wanted to pick games that are only for ps3 and 360 becuz gta4 was multiconsole game

wow there are so much pathetic gamers in this world like u say gta would get boring oh im not sure u would like playing mgs4 all over again or fallout 3 all u do is shoot runnning around in a enviroment thats empty oblivion much better then fallout and if u get bored then gta play online like comon use common sense and i think gta lasts more then all those other games

-groans- I can't believe that GOTY went to such a harshly overrated game. It should've been either MGS4 or Fallout 3. I'll admit GTAIV was better than the last installments (-cough- Vice City -cough-), but that's not saying much since once again, I feel like I'm replaying GTA3. But then again, as much as I like Spike, they always give GOTY to games like GTA.

I agree with malfarf, Fallout 3 should have won more, and GTA 4 less. I can see why GTA 4 got them, who doesnt like a now a day go around a big city killing others, and other stuff, i know i like to, but it does get boring. Fallout 3 probably has one of the most original landscapes of all the games i have played. Who ever imagined of playing a game where you play in a land full of destruction, radiation, and alot more. It's after all the (well almost all) Atomic Bombs go off in the world. Oh P.S, Fallout 3 anyone can play with out playing the first 2 original fallouts.

dude gta4 was ok but terrible compared to many games i mean after going on a rampage and killing everyone its extremely boring it was fun for a week but then it was already boring...garbage

Amir26, I agree, I just think it's funny you mentioning the Dark Knight as the best selling blu-ray 'in history' as 'in history' really means the last 3 years while they've existed. No doubt it's one of my favourite films ever! These awards shows always suck, the only people who can give real gaming awards are reviewing websites like IGN & Gamespot. All T.V. ones end up sucking...
