halo 2. i like them all be halo 2 i liked the least, all the other halo's had some kind of health system where as that was shiled down then dead
Halo 2 PC going offline next month

Microsoft will shut down online multiplayer for 2007 shooter February 15 after peak user count hits only 20.
Halo 2 PC multiplayer will end February 15, 343 Industries has announced in a new blog post. The company said it has been monitoring the game's online population for months, finding that peak concurrent user levels reached only about 20 players.
Halo 2 for PC's multiplayer over LAN and single-player will remain available, though all other network services will be switched off at the time. "We love you, Halo 2 PC, and you will live forever in our hearts," the company said.
Halo 2 PC launched in May 2007, more than two and a half years after the original Xbox version was released. It was ported to the PC by internal Microsoft team Hired Gun, which has since been dissolved. The game runs only on Windows Vista.
Gamers holding out for a high-definition Halo 2 remake are out of luck, as Microsoft said last year that it has no plans for such a game.

Microsoft's tepid support of Halo on the PC (despite its originally being planned as a PC game) has always been pitiful. I hope the community can come up with some way to keep the matchmaking alive.

Umm, no? It runs on Vista or newer. Which was a stupid decision and likely hurt the game considerably, but still. It works just fine in Windows 7 and 8.
And although it's never much of anything, there are consistently more than 20 people online any time I log into the game.
Does this mean that the games for windows live interface is going away, because I thought it was kind of cool to get achievements for Xbox LIVE through a PC Game.
you can still play halo 2 online on the xbox via xlink kai's lan tunneling service, there are usually at least 20 Mexicans in there

Halo 2's multiplayer on xbox live is still the best i have ever played. The PC version could not duplicate it.
Its a shame when games die out... Halo 2 is probably my favourite in the series. Its unfortunate that its no longer played very much, oh well, had to happen someday.

I also remember that you had to pay a subscription to microsft to play this game online just like on the xbox. It wasn't successful and they dropped it so that's probably one of the reason you don't see any more halo's coming to pc.
Hope is not lost, there will be people who will make servers and it will continue for the people who want to play.

and they are still waiting till the 15th of Feb to shut it down.....ummmm, even if they shut it down by the 25th of Jan, i dont think those 20 people will mind......
2 Like @Toysoldier34 people are still playing halo 2 on the orginal xbox through xlink using lan redirected onto the net. Microsft made it impossible to do with the 360 so once the newer halo games go offline on the 360 they are gone forever.

That's why no one bothered to play it. Release it on Windows 7, and then you might see a jump.

@zfazal84 halo 2 is the first online halo. Aside from halo 1 it is the purest form of halo mp and has one of the best campaigns regarding events and story (we only hate the story near the end of it). I prefer halo 2 mp any day over 3 and 4. Its the purest rush of halo and why many played it on xbox till the servers shut down.
@zfazal84 Let me guess, you werent even born when the first halo game came out. GS should put a ESRB rating on making an account and posting comments rather than making lame videos. At lest we wouldnt waste time with such comments as yours.

i actually just bought this game for 40 bucks for hopes of playing online but it wouldnt let me install. this is really lame

futhermore any true halo fan would be playing Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo 4 online on Xbox 360 and not wasting there time with a PC port of a 9 year old game.

Someone needs to make a "Halo Fan" meme. It'd read something something like:
"Complains new Halo isn't like Halo 2," "Only 20 people playing Halo 2 online."
I always thought with the amount of bitching regarding new Halos compared to the old ones people would have been going back to play this online on PC.
This comes as zero surprise. Do they really expect PC Gamers to have any interest in Halo when we got both 1 & 2 well after the console releases, AND have yet to see any sign of Halo 3? If 343/MS had any love for the PC version, as they claim to have had, they would have actually bothered to put some effort into *giving* us the games.

That's such bullshit. I JUST got a computer that can run Halo 2 on Minimum settings and I was going to pick it up and run through the achievements so I could have 100% completion in every Halo game. Now it seems like that's going to be impossible...
2 Like Halo 2 is, to many, still the best multiplayer in the franchise. And being as Halo's multiplayer is one of the best in the industry, that would mean Halo 2 is still one of the best multiplayer games ever made. And considering how much of a disappointment the 7th generation has been to a lot of gamers, it's really not surprising that some people are still hanging back with the 6th.
2 Like @DarkReign2552 @ChunkyDrawers PC doesn't really have "generations" not in the console sense of the word. And on PC, Halo 1 was arguably the better game, Halo 2 PC was a terrible port. You actually see a larger active population in Halo 1 PC.
Ehhhh.....is it just me or am i seeing things? Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Halo 2 release all the way back in November of 2004 for XBOX and pc??? If the answer to that question is yes then why does this article have the header as a shooter game that was released in 2007??? I always thought Halo 3 was released in that year and not 2!! Oh snap but wait, there was a Windows version released for 2 back in 2007...hmmmm!!

Halo 2 was released for Xbox in 2004. The Halo 2 PC release did not see release the light of day until it launched alongside Vista in 2007, hence why it's called Halo 2 For Windows Vista. It wouldn't work on XP.
