What we heard: Current and future Xbox 360 owners are eagerly awaiting any news coming out of the Halo 3 camp. Guarded by a steel curtain info embargo, details on the game are as scarce as unhumped corpses in multiplayer sessions of Halo 2.
What Halo fans do know is that the game is currently scheduled to come out sometime in 2007--hardly specific enough for the series' rabid fan base. However, that release window may have been narrowed slightly if a report from Game Informer Online is correct.
The Web site states that "sources" have tipped it off about a Halo 3 demo and that it will be released "in the first half of 2007." And that's really the nuts and bolts of the rumor...just some hearsay.
Gaming Business 101 states that demos for games should be released near the game's retail release for maximum effect. So does that mean the retail version of Halo 3 will arrive in the first half of 2007? That bit of information remains up in the air.
Shortly after the game's announcement at E3 2006, Bungie admitted that the game was already playable and had "surprisingly polished looking graphics." In fact, the trailer for the game was running on the game's actual engine in real time. All aspects of the game are undergoing testing now, and Bungie has even shown off early builds of the game to some print publications.
On the other hand, Halo: Combat Evolved for the Xbox was released in November 2001, followed by the oft-delayed Halo 2 in November 2004. Using this life cycle of three years per Halo chapter puts Halo 3 squarely in the November 2007 range, and that doesn't account for any additional development time due to next-gen technology and new hardware. Plus, as anyone who waited anxiously for Halo 2 can tell you, delays are becoming the norm in game development these days.
Unfortunately, in terms of a release date, that leaves Halo fans back at square one. While progress on the game is looking good, Bungie has a reputation for being a perfectionist and will likely release the game--all together now--"when it's ready."
The official story: Microsoft rep--"Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."
Bogus or not bogus?: Too early to call.
all i can say is....... I CANT FRIGGIN WAIT! i just recently reserved the Legendary dition of Halo 3 and the longer the wait equals more pain, but better gameplay and better graphics!
Can't wait this is going to be amazing if its as big as halo or halo2 are still now ill definietly buy it.CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!
Wel, if the game was stated to be playable back in may, i have a real good feeling we could be seeing Halo 3 within 4 months. If the multiplayer is good enough for the press to see and play, then i'd campaign is looking good. 1/1/07 any body yes-no-hopefully maybe if i criogenically freeze myself and have my friend wake me up when they take pre-orders then get refrozen and unfreeze on release day, the wait can be drastically cut short Hello...NASA?
HALO is so remarkable, I don't think they should release a demo....EVER. And this is coming from someone who's obsessed with demos. But there's no decision to make here. You're either going to buy it or not. (And yes, some people are crazy enough to not want to buy it.) Considering there are two HALO games already available, a demo isn't going to help change your decision. And it
Looks like a great game, based on Halo 2. I'm an Xbox owner myself, and I sure don't think Halo is worth buying a 360 over. Halo and Gears Of War are the only games keeping 360 afloat.
Lets make sure they don't rush anything so the h3 code will be perfect. Creating a demo will only take away from their main project the full version of the game. Don't get me wrong but I would like to see the demo but I would rather take the time and wait for a perfect full version of the game.
they are just teasing us, halo 3 will come out in nov. like xbox, the first two halos, and the 360 did, its just something that microsoft does, but we have plenty of games to play while we wait... gears of war, lost planet, mass effects....
what would be cool but sick and wrong is if they were already done with the game and just playing with us. and the release date was the same as the PS3
You know what...Halo was given to us when it was NOT ready, so I really think that Halo3 should not be rushed. If it is, I will have lost all faith in sequels in general.
They better release a demo of it. I would go to my friend's house just to play on his Xbox 360 to play Halo 3.
it better come out, and when it does it should be better then the previous ones! Cause thats why i bought the freaking 360 just for that game! no other game is worth to buy a 360 but halo3...cant wait!
You guys seriosuly believe that Bungie would release a demo? When have they ever done this? Early half of 2007? I doubt it considering MS wants to make as much money on this game as possible, so Holiday 2007 seems like the best choice.
well i think that even though a demo might come out it does not have to follow the way other publishers do demos because halo is not a normal game with or without a demo it will sell millions of copies so to hype up everyone or something they might put the demo out a couple of months early to physch every1 up.... oh well...
Maybe Halo3 will come out in Q1 just as Playstation3 is getting ready to ship more units, in order to steal it's thunder
I can do without the demo---FOCUS on the game itself. There's enough of a following that the gaming community knows what Halo is all about. Can't wait---wonder if they'll release it in the fall (November).
quote: Zrdollarz "Oh sweet.... i can't wait to nut myself over a game that is over rated and old news.... HALO 2: NOW YOU CAN HOLD TWO GUNS! whoopie" yeah, i totally agree, i bought Halo 2 after reading things like "the best FPS ever" "amazing" "best AI ever" i play it for 2 days and when the credits screen appear i was like "wait a f---ing min, this is it?" i think they should change from "Artificial Intelligence" to "Real Stupid" the game is totaly over rated and if it sold that much it was because fanboys advertisement. besides i am tired of Micro$oft, the 360 reminds me LEGO, they were so pround to launch the console on november 2005, way before any other... and now they are selling HD-DVD players, HD, most probably another controller (remember controller S? rumors say MS guys were really in the mood of making something like wiimote or sixaxis) my point is, it's like MS sold us an empty box and now they're sending the rest of the parts, some say the PS3 is too expensive, but if you buy every thing that MS is relesing to have a fully loaded X360 you'll find the X360 more expensive then PS3
EB.com says Halo 3 is shipping on March 31, 2007. I seriously doubt it is, but there's another release date for the rumor mill.
Halo franchising don't need demos... The fans want the real thing... But is better to be released "when it's ready" even if it is in November. I prefer a delay than a loss of quality like halo to halo 2.
I was going to wait for Halo 3 to come out before getting a 360. but now I will get one after the holidays and play halo 1 & 2.
