Halo 4 adding Team Doubles

New 2 vs. 2 Slayer hopper coming to first-person shooter next week with three different gametypes.

Halo 4 will add a Team Doubles playlist next week with the game's latest matchmaking update, developer 343 Industries has announced. The studio said it has been working "day and night" to prepare the 2 vs. 2 playlist, which will feature three different gametypes.

The first is Infinity Doubles, which lets players choose a custom loadout and allows for instant respawn and use of radar. Ordnances will become active at the traditional 70-point mark, but options are adjusted specifically for Team Doubles, 343 said. Games are played to 300 points.

Doubles Pro features preset game loadouts (available at the 343 website) and the score limit is the same as above. However, radar, personal ordnance, and instant respawn are toggled off.

Third, CTF Doubles is a customized version of the Capture the Flag game mode for teams of two. Custom loadouts and radar are enabled and respawn timers are set to 10 seconds. Flag locations have been tweaked, 343 said, to "provide an optimal experience for small maps and teams." Rules of the game are: five flags to win, three-second return, and 15-second rest. In addition, gamers do not need to have their flag home to score.

A finalized map pool is still being worked on, though 343 said modified versions of Haven, Abandon, and Solace will be included, as well as some Forge-made maps.

In addition to announcing and detailing Halo 4's new Team Doubles playlist, 343 also revealed two new specializations will be added to the mix next week. They are Rogue and Tracker. More details are available on the 343 website.

Also on tap for Halo 4 in February is the game's next multiplayer map pack. The Majestic expansion adds new environments Landfall, Monolith, and Skyline to the mix.

Now that the game is almost complete I'll pick this up in April, when all the maps have been included too.

@LoganWesker Griffball and Team Dubs are permanent and Team Snipes is coming tomorrow along with Team Objective (both will be permanent too).

I like the idea of adding new stuff every week, but at the same time, I miss all of the game modes. I especially liked racing in multi-team in Reach... I hope they bring that back soon, but for now at least we have Grifball.

Stupid 343, why the hell aren't all the gametypes just fucking on. I love team snipers so much, and they only had it for a week. What the fuck. This is halo... Do they lose money if they have more gametypes on with servers and shit? cause they definately lose interest of gamers when the only types worth playing are slayer, big team ctf and sometimes oddball. Is this game going to be a beta its entire lifespan?

Didn't get an article when Grifball was released. Personally, I'm looking forward to Team Snipers, which is somewhere on the horizon.

Nice to see them mixing it up with the War Games roster. I was so happy to see Griffball in there last week, good times can be had there as long as you have a good team to play with.

I just want to know when are they bringing back the King of the Hill playlist... I miss it and I don't want to go through the DLC playlist because most of the time I never get it :(

@DarthLod Well... I always had lots of fun playing multiplayer with a couple of buddies in a room. Offline, you know. Never competitive. Always fun. Better than teaming in campaign... no crappy AI mistakes to worry about.

I remember in Halo 3 there was a team double with rockets. Basically you just had like 4 teams of two and one guy would drive the mongoose round while the other would shoot rockets.


It was f***ing fun and they need to bring it back. Does anybody remember playing that mode?
