Harry Potter bewitching Deathly Hallows - Part 1 this fall
WBIE, EA bifurcating "darker" installment in J.K. Rowling-created franchise; first release due this year on 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PC, mobile.
For the final filmic installment in J.K. Rowling's young-adult opus, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Warner Bros. Pictures opted to break the movie into two parts, with the first release scheduled for this November. Warner Bros.' gaming division will be taking the same tack for the movie's interactive tie-in.
Today, Warner Bros. Interactive and Electronic Arts announced Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 will arrive this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PC, and mobile devices. Though the publishers did not provide a release window for Part 2, they did confirm that it will arrive on the same platforms upon its bow, presumably in tandem with the second film's release next year.
EA's Bright Light studio has been tasked with development on the game, and according to production head Jonathan Bunney, Deathly Hallows will be "darker and more action oriented" than previous installments in the series. Notably, the protective walls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have been left behind, as Potter and his cohorts face off against Voldemort's nefarious hordes in the lead-up to the young magician's final face-off with the rogue magician.
The studio emphasized the perilous situation that Potter finds himself in on his quest to find and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes, and players will battle the likes of Death Eaters and snatchers. Also on hand will be various other creatures from previous installments in the series that Potter must use his magic to vanquish.
