Heavy Rain dev unveiling Beyond today - Report

E3 2012: Quantic Dream to reveal narrative-focused PlayStation-exclusive Heavy Rain follow-up featuring Hollywood talent during Sony's E3 2012 media briefing, sources say.
LOS ANGELES--A Heavy Rain follow-up called Beyond will be unveiled during Sony's 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo press briefing this evening in Los Angeles, MCV reports today. The site's mystery "publishing sources" indicate the game--to be revealed by Quantic Dream boss David Cage--will be narrative-focused, feature motion controls, and be exclusive to the PlayStation.
Separately, CVG cites sources today indicating that Beyond will feature Hollywood voice talent in the form of "a well-known actor and actress." More specifics were not mentioned. For 2010's Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream hired on English actor Pascal Langdale (The Phantom of the Opera), whose voice and likeness were used for main character Ethan Mars.
GameSpot will have a liveblog of Sony's E3 2012 media briefing and will also stream the event beginning this evening at 6 p.m. PDT.
Last month, it was reported that Cage would reveal Quantic Dream's new project at Sony's E3 2012 media briefing, but did not have any details on the name of the game. For more on Quantic Dream's latest body of work, check out GameSpot's review of Heavy Rain.

Yet again, I wish I had a PS3. The game just looks like it has a good story, and that's what matters.

I really enjoyed playing Heavy Rain, so i'm hoping they can come up with something really good.
The casting theatre vid was similar to Heavy Rain so I'm guessing Beyond will be like the Kara tech demo. If so, very interesting indeed.
1 Like I can't wait to hear more! David Cage and Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain was a fantastic game and one of the most fantastic emotional journeys I've ever experienced in a game! I don't believe that Beyond will be a direct sequal to Heavy Rain, but I hope that some of the same mechanics will be in play - as well as the excellent story-telling Cage is known for.
On another note: JAAAAASON! (sorry, that video at the end of the article provoked it) xD
i think QD shot themselves in the foot with Heavy Rain in the sense where you can't really follow it up with a sequel. it sucks that they can't use that IP again. OR you COULD make a sequal and have the players continue their story. So if character A and C died for you but B and D lived, that carries over to the sequel. that would be great.

Heavy Rain was a great concept. It wasn't a true definition of a "game" but for what it was, it was pretty dang good.
6 Like I loved Heavy Rain, but I'm not too sure about this motion-only gameplay. I hope it's optional because I don't think I would like having to buy PS Move just to play this -__-
I don't think you have to worry about motion-only controls. First of all the article only states that the game will have motion-control features. :-) Motion-control features were also added to Heavy Rain after PS-Move launched, having no effect on those who did not own the PS-Move. Secondly, making it motion-controlled only through PS-Move would be a bad marketing decision for Quantic Dreams overall. It would seriously narrow down their target group and I don't think that they can afford that- let alone let it happen, since David Cage obviously want a broad audience for his fantastic stories. :)
Im curious to see what they can come up with. I have yet to play Heavy Rain and by all accounts it was more an interactive experience than an actual game, but they do push the medium with emotion and realistic characters and scenarios.
Motion... only? I've been open to motion gaming, but recent motion-only gaming has been poor to terrible (looking at you, Sorcery and Rise of Nightmares).
What's so wrong with "optional"? Heavy Rain was great that way, hope this is similar.

Quantic Dream are the most innovative video game developer at the moment, so thumbs up! ill buy "Beyond" at release!
