Guitar virtuoso's second album, including "Little Wing," "If 6 Was 9," plus newly released "Valley of Neptunes" heads to 360, PS3, Wii games next week.
Jimi Hendrix is widely regarded to be one of the greatest guitarists in history, making it an oddity that his presence has been notably understated in MTV Games and Harmonix's Rock Band franchise. Soon, that will change. Following on from rumors last month that the virtuoso would receive his own stand-alone Rock Band game, Harmonix said today that The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Axis: Bold as Love will be available for download within the game next week.
The Axis: Bold as Love playable album will be available for $20 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of Rock Band. Axis' lead track, "EXP," is not included in the pack, presumably due to its highly experimental, dissonant nature. Each of the 13 included tracks can also be purchased individually for $2 a piece on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Notably, the track pack also includes Hendrix's newly released, posthumous single "Valley of Neptunes."
Having appeared as an in-game character in Activision's Guitar Hero World Tour, Hendrix has only had one of his tracks included in a Rock Band game to date. That track, "Fire," appeared in last year's Lego Rock Band. Nine of the 13 tracks included in the Axis: Bold as Love pack can be downloaded individually through Lego Rock Band.
The Xbox 360 and Wii editions of Axis: Bold as Love arrive on March 30. PS3 gamers can pick up the pack as part of Sony's regularly scheduled Thursday update on April 1.

I'm hoping that Hendrix DL's will beat Lady GaGa DL's or else there is something wrong... Nice to see some Hendrix, hope more albums get released.
I think that there are sooooo many better Hendrix songs such as 'The Wind Cries Mary', "Voodoo Chile' etc... there is one great song on that list and that is Little Wing... but really not much else on offer except for Spanish Castle Magic... oh well, so over music games anyway... too many issues with the guitars and drums just sucked all of the fun out of it for me a long time ago
Music genre isn't as big as it once was, but if you are still in fact playing them, and you're for some reason playing Guitar Hero over Rock Band... Oops. Seriously... there is no comparison any more with the plethora of DLC, the RBN, better standalone games and now... Hendrix? GG.
This is in my top 5 albums of all time. I would download it just because of how awesome it is that they're making a true classic into DLC, but as I already know how to play all the songs (on bass), it's not really necessary.
dear harmonix: why is it you dont make a hendrix rock band? harmonix: we think gamers would relate better to a rock band green day. kids love green day, hendrix was a loser YEAH RIGHT! id rather buy this on disc than buy rbgd on disc... or at all
they need to just say screw it to green day and just come out with this rofl soooooo many other bands that deserve to have a game made about them more that freaking green day...
It's about time the father of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal gets recognition........Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made Of Sand, If 6 Was 9 and Little Wing are the best of the album......
@crunchb3rry Sorry to see you get thumbs down for what you said. People are ignorant---those that REALLY listen to Hendrix know what you are talking about.
Another reason why Rock Band is easily number one. They went the road that I will only travel now, making very few "new games" and instead putting content out on DLC. Granted it could be expensive if you are a collector, but the fact is my Rockband is pushing 500 songs, most all are songs I actually like. I have built my own game and never once have I felt taken advantage of or "milked". Even though times got hard, I am sure the DLC has slowed, it made no difference for Harmonix and every week something new is released, been that way since the original Rockband was released. Because of that my money will always go to them and the only time GH will get anything from me is when the game is on clearance. Thankyou Harmonix, you truly have done everything right.
just as i put all my rockband stuff away... i might just have to bust it out again for awhile! castles made of sand! definately temtping
Would love to see a "Woodstock" package with Hendrix, Joplin, etc. 2-3 songs apiece to make a 13 song package would get my $20 without a complaint. I'll pick thru this one.
