Hybrid coming together summer 2012
5th Cell locks in launch window for overhauled futuristic third-person Xbox Live shooter.
5th Cell seems to have made productive use of Hybrid's yearlong delay. In addition to confirming a summer release window for Hybrid today, 5th Cell detailed a host of substantive changes to its first 3D shooter.
As to those changes, 5th Cell said it has reworked the game's jetpack-heavy aerial combat system. The game has also been given a new visual design, as the team has revisited character appearances, environments, and user interface. Further, the studio intends to release the game running at 60 frames per second in 720p resolution.
Hybrid is a marked departure from 5th Cell's previous work on franchises such as Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life. The action-oriented game posits a postapocalyptic world in which two rival factions are locked in conflict. The multiplayer-only game will let gamers battle it out in persistent-world online modes.
Hybrid is in development for release through Xbox Live. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage, as well as a new trailer for the game, below.
[Correction:] This story originally reported that Hybrid will include a single-player campaign. This information is inaccurate. GameSpot regrets the error.
If you have high hopes for this one, I suggest playing Run Roo Run. It is 5th Cell's latest iOS game and it is just AWFUL.
I especially like the idea of jetpacking across to a wall or the ceiling and taking cover, adds a whole other method of playing shooters :) It doesn't look all that amazing though gameplay-wise.. seems a bit under-polished.
MP only? Why?!

Am i the only one that heard of this game for the first time? The trailer is awesome and the game looks promising.
It seems kinda interesting....I like the post apocalypse setting and I like the idea of jetpack combat though there hasn't been many great games to use this approach, Dark Void had potential but throwing all the good stuff at the end of the game was stupid. In the end if Hybrid is a good action game and an enjoyable I'm game.
What have you done to Portal?
