Yes you are paying the same amount but not getting the same thing on psn as on xbl. but on psn you get a free game each month with plus and you dont get that with xbl. i just signed up for the 3month at 17.99 and down loaded wipe out hd for free. that is a 19.99 game so i have already came out ahead. i am a hardcore gamer since atari and i own all the systems. not a fan boy of just one. pick the right one for you, be it psn or xbl and stop bashing each other. just drop it once and for all.
PlayStation Store Update: Sucker Punch's electric action game, latest tennis title, Bejeweled 2 arrive alongside Fat Princess add-on content, five PSP Minis, more.
Last week was a momentous one on the PlayStation Network. Add-on content for Red Dead Redemption, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and more hit the download hotspot. However, this week has more, thanks in part to the arrival of the PlayStation Plus subscription plan.
Those who signed up for the premium service, which kicked off June 29, can download eight items (an assortment of games and add-on items) for free this week. Those who qualify can see a list of the complimentary options at the PlayStation Blog.
One of the more prominent "new" releases this week is Sucker Punch's Infamous. Available in full for $29.99, the digital version of the hero/antihero game is also available as a 60-minute trial for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Sony added three PSP games to the digital marketplace this week, the first of which is Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip ($19.99), the latest in Sony's tennis series. The game features ad hoc multiplayer matches in both singles and doubles, as well as an array of customization features. Additionally, fans with Killzone on their minds can take to the court as a nefarious Helghan soldier.
Also available for the PSP is Bejeweled 2 from PopCap Games. The game, which will run gem-matching aficionados $9.99, is available today. The game recipe is simple and familiar: match gems, watch them fall, and continue through the game's puzzles.
The third and final PSP game to make its way to the storefront this week is Midway Arcade Treasures Extended Play ($9.99). The package contains 21 unique games, including Spy Hunter, Sinistar, Defender, Wizard of Wor, Joust, Klax, Cyberball 2072, and the first three Mortal Kombat games.
On the demo front this week, Sony added a trial for Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, which arrived in full, at retail, on June 29. The trial teases Traveller's Tales' latest Lego game, which puts players in Harry Potter's shoes from his life at Privet Drive to the Triwizarding Tournament.
Fans of Atomic Operations' gorging princess game, Fat Princess, can download the Fat Princess Fat Roles DLC ($3.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers, $4.99 for everyone else). The content brings three new character classes (pirates, ninjas, and giants) to the game.
Sony added a quintet of PSP Minis to the marketplace this week spanning everything from Mahjonng Solitaire ($2.99) to Stellar Attack ($4.49), a space-bound action puzzle game. Also hitting the Minis storefront this week is Arcade Darts ($3.99), a dart hurtling game; Egypt Engineering an Empire ($3.99), a strategy game set throughout history; and Hello Flowerz! ($4.99), a gardening simulator.
On the music game front, Rock Band welcomes a six-pack from Canadian alt-rockers Nickelback, and Guitar Hero adds a Pop Pack, which houses songs from Owl City, Lady Gaga, and Maroon 5. Additionally, the DJ Hero: Dance Party Mix Pack ($7.99), which features "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga vs. "Girls On Film" by Duran Duran, "Buttons" by Pussycat Dolls, and "S.O.S." by Rihanna, hit the marketplace for DJ Hero.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
@blaziking Show me where Microsoft "makes" you pay for anything...? If you wanna use the features Sony is charging for - you have to pay, the same as XBOX Live. Now get of your Unicorn and come back to reality - Live is STILL a way better deal for $50.00 a year, period, Thee End.
@supernaught360 show me where sony said they will MAKE you pay for it I dont ever remember them saying that. im not getting it as for cross game chat no sony doesnt have that congrats
@blaziking... yeah, and now Sony is charging for stuff you had for free on an XBOX Live Silver membership, so what's your point, Jack? You're talking in circles - and you never answered the point: where is cross game chat on PSN?!? Hurts, right? I mean, it's one of the most fundamental features of XBOX Live - you don't have to be playing the same games as your friends to chat with them. In fact, you can be doing anything you want on the 360: watching a movie, downloading content, video chatting, playing an arcade game, etc. and still be communicating with an entire party of your best friends, with everyone doing something completely different. Sony doesn't have this feature - and they're charging $50.00?!? Forget arguing, kid: PSN ain't free anymore, and you don't get as much for your $50.00.
Yeahhhhh... about that "InFamous", well there's a game no one bought good thing they've made that available... wow, is Sony mislead if they think any of that makes a poot of difference. Good one, Uglyscope! I like pie, too.
I care not for unfamuss. Howzabout more PS2 and PS(1) titles?! And get some trophies going for them. And a boatload of new avatars please. Get on your job. Do work. Get busy. Rock and roll. Pizza. I like pie.
@supernaught360 I said microsoft will still make you pay for something that sony wont make you pay for. refering to the online multiplater so no I was completely right
it was just a matter of time before Sony figured out they could squeeze more money out of their PS3 fanboys. at least Microsoft was up front about what they're trying to do instead of Sony hiding behind their free "extra stuff", which is mostly crap anyway.
@blaziking Actually, no, you're completely wrong. Microsoft offers free silver memberships, which may not allow for multiplayer gaming, BUT: You can still access all the other content, AND you get cross game chat with XBOX Live Gold - which PSN still can't offer because it's not a unified service, so eat it.
It's funny how all you PS3 Sooper-Fans seem to be digging the new premium service, after complaining incessantly about Microsoft charging the same fee for the same types of content for the last 3 years. I own both consoles, but because of my disgust with you fan-boys for being hypocrites, I'll toss this in: you're paying the same $50 for your premium service, AND STILL NO CROSS GAME CHAT. Eat it.
Quite chuffed with the Fat Princess DLC. I went online last night for a quick blast and was surprised at how well supported it still is for a PSN game that is nearly a year old now. Šish they would give a bit more than just 3 new classes, but I spose we've already had several new maps for free so can't complain too much : )
So, Playstation Plus basically gives us discounts to some old games, a few add ons to games we may or not have (I don't), and a timed trial to a game that "any self respecting PS3 owner already owns." Awesome. PS: I got Infamous new for $20, and the digital copy is how much?
"Cole is back. What a shocker" lol was a great game, only rented it though. Looking forward to buy the sequel!
Guys, The way Sony is going about "a better experience" is to help people save money and get more games and trials and? what not. It will not appeal to everyone, but that's there goal. Plus if they do give extra Feature, what does it hurt the Gamer who want free games, Discounts, and Trials. This is Sony Plan so Far, you will see the plan will get better over these few months, I think it's Alright.
PS Plus looks good, just need to save up some money by doing summer jobs i guess. @solidniko Oh that sucks dude. :(
"they're cheap""squeezing more money out of fools""just like microsoft" no theyre not cheap or making you pay for it microsoft will still make you pay for something that sony wont make you pay for its just an improvement so stop complaning
@central09 I own both consoles, the 360 and ps3, and guess what? I end up selling my 360 because paying $60 a year is just to much when I can play free on the ps3 and don't get RROD.
the better side of ps3 was the free access to most things, now playstation plus? had a look not impressed so far some of the discounts amount to 90p
I got a PSN+ subscrption here in the UK and happy with it so far - looks like a good update to the store you yanks got - not sure what we've had yet......
@jarturoar I only own a PS3, and I concur with your comment at Central09. I hate fanboys. Why can't we all just unite as gamers?
Anyone reckon it's worth getting play station plus??? looks pretty cool, i wonder if you can share your stuff across play-stations.
This looks good and pretty promising even though its not my type of thing. The ps+ is for hardcore addicted gamers and frankly I just dont want the commitement.
itachi1993 you loose none of your downloadable content once its installed on your ps3... and incase you havent read anything on ps+, its like80$ worth of stuff... and its optional dude, as in... you can choose to get it if you want... if you dont want it, feel free to skip out on it, if not, dont cry when you look back and feel stupid
I won't use psn + & I don't see any point in complaining about something that you have a choice in using it or not
InFAMOUS $30 price on psn is not a PSN+ exclusive its for everyone.... so dont be mad at psn+ just sayin i still agree though on just buyin it at a local store
Playstation + is idiotic. Pay $50 for a subscription to get two dollars off a game you will lose if you end your subscription. That is complete bs to me.
anyone who plays xbox does not deserve to comment on this thread... PS+ is like giving someone $1 for $10 in return...its already just about payed itself off...at least i get stuff for my subscription instead of things that SHOULD have been given to me in the first place enjoy paying to play all your games online, and especially enjoy all the server crashes on your lovely xbox live...i feel sorry for those who RROD and then keep comin back for me...you should get a ps3 and experience true console gaming lol
I own a 60 GB PS3 which is about 75% full. Why would i want to pay 29.95 and add another 7 GB to my hardrive when i can get Infamous at a local pawn shop for 15 or at gamestop for 20 ??...and not have to download 7 more gigs to my hardrive. PSN should be more about games THAT WE CANT FIND OR NEW ORIGINAL GAMES instead of games we see everytime we go into a gamestop selling for 20% off. This PSN+ crap is just Sony squeezing more money out of the fools who will hand it over. But rest assured the morons who waited in line for 12 hours and paid 600 bucks when the PS3 launched or the complete idiots who paid 1000 bucks or more on ebay for a PS3 at launch im sure will be glad to give Sony another 50 bucks for this service. BLAH
if you are willing to buy ps plus I recomended the 1 year cuz you will get 3 mounths as bonuse. Also you able to get new games and some can be free and you will get two places for discount the ps special offer and the ps plus for one year.
Im buying Infamous at Gamestop in Aug. I would rather have the disc copy. Why pay $30 when i get it for $20 brand new at at a store.
The PS+ bonuses don't seem worth it for this update. A few games most people will already have or not care about, and select discounts on so-so games. The ones I want to get aren't discounted. Maybe next update...
