iPad 3 to be announced next month - Report
Apple will unveil iPad 2 successor during first of week of March at an event in San Francisco, Wall Street Journal sources say.
There will soon be another iOS device for gamers to use. Apple will announce the iPad 3 at an event in San Francisco next month, according to sources speaking with The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital.
The sources did not say when Apple will begin selling the iPad 3, but if its release schedule falls in line with that of the iPad 2, users can expect to have the device a week after it is announced.
This latest speculation falls in line with a rumor from last month that pegged the iPad 3 to be available for purchase in March. That speculation suggested Apple had its Chinese production factories operating 24 hours a day to manufacture the necessary volume for launch.
As for the iPad 3 (or whatever Apple decides to call the device), it is believed to boast a similar form factor to the iPad 2 but will sport a significantly faster processor, a high-definition screen, and LTE network support that will carry data faster than the iPad 2's present 3G speeds.
@marco1k1 I didn't log in for awhile so thats why didn't reply to your comment right away. Even though there appears to be some core titles on the app store with the N.O.V.As and infinity blades as well as other ports of non-casual games, app store is flooded with casual titles and unfortunately that seems to be a growing trend, even with xbox live and psn. The point I was making was the loyalty that people have towards other game handheld brands like nintendo or sony handhelds seems comparable to a person who spends that much money on every ipad or phone revision when you look at the "I got to buy a new ds or psp every time a revised system comes out" attitude. And that is hypocritical.
Just heard another new version of the Nook will be coming out again. I think Nook /Kindle come out about every 6 months. Looks like the pretenders are trying twice as hard to catch up with the Jones. I'll stick with the real deal thank you very much. Just be happy with what you can afford now, cause it another year the tech will get smaller and faster. Always has and always will.
@flammable, it's actually quite simple. Apple fans have to be "cool" and buy the new product as soon as it comes out and always have the latest one, so it really takes apple no time to get money back from their overpriced product. So make a few small changes including stuff that should of been in the last anyways and you can make money off of people not only once but twice. Personally I'm nice and happy with my Iphone 3gs that I bought 3 years ago. atleast until I get my andriod and say bye bye to apple.
Yippee another shiny, overpriced product from Apple.
Bet you're glad you waited for that ipad 2 now huh? lol
iphone 5 please
wait what about iPad 2G and 2GS? No matter am waiting for iPad 4
The HD screen is the clincher for me.... now, how do I convince my wife to let me drop some more cash on another iPad... I could pawn the iPad 2 off on her I suppose and have the flashy new one heh heh
I forgot, I wonder if they are going to use the death of steve jobs as marketing tool again
great! so they recycle the same design just add 128mb of ram and 2 megapixels to the camera and people will be buying the "new Ipad" without actually knowing what's the difference between the new and the old one
So how does Apple actually make money with all of the products they're constantly releasing? Surely they don't give them enough time to actually sell?!
"iPad 4 to be announced a month after."
"That speculation suggested Apple had its Chinese production factories operating 24 hours a day to manufacture the necessary volume for launch." that is modern day economic imperialism. Apple is way worst than Activision. Activision is an American video game developer that makes games in the U.S and creates American jobs. Apple charges crazy for their products. They had to create safety nets in Foxconn so workers do not die. No surprise when their stock value increased to 500 with the Apple iPad 3.
@GhoX They are both bad but EA still has the crown.
@Owl064 What? This is what Apple has always done. Rip off consumers and force them to buy a new overpriced apple product every few months.
So every month are so another ipad is coming out? what is up with apple these days.
lol another iPad and the reason why that is possible is because there are idiots who keep buying them same with iPhones. If u think about it iPads are basically laptops that slightly more portable but they can't really be deemed as laptops cos they can't even use simple applications like flash or even play mkvs without having to jailbreak. Get an android tablet or a laptop lol instead of an overpriced piece of plastic. I'm not saying its rubbish btw just saying it's overpriced and there definitely better alternatives.
there are more ipads announced lately than call of duty games...
An announcement for an announcement. This article was designed to get ad revenue, nothing more.
I don't know which is the greatest milker - Activision or Apple.
They should just call it the iPad 2 S.
iPad's are cool, but I opted for an android tablet, and find it to suit my needs much more than an apple device. The biggest reason is that I needed .mkv support without voiding my warranty.
lmao! and to think of all the dolts that sat outside the istore for days to buy the ipad 2 just recently :D
I would prefer to wait, even a year longer, if it meant not forcing Foxconn employees to suffer.
Hey if people have the money to toss apple's way I have nothing to say.
LMAO at all the people bashing Apple and the Ipad. I remember these forums full of posters predicting the failure of the first iPad because "it doesn't do anything my phone doesn't do". All it did was become the fasting-selling, most profitable consumer electronics device ever. So many here are so clueless, unable to see anything beyond their own experience. Making fun of everyone who is going spend more money on "another iPad with a few more bells and whistles". Most people don't buy a new one just because it's a new version. But someone considering buying their first, now has more incentive. Those making fun of the iPad b/c it's not a great gaming device.....big surprise, it has about a zillion OTHER uses beyond gaming. It does movies, music, books MUCH better than your awesome gaming device. My wife owns one and has zero games on it. So again...just laughing at all the hate and pettiness on these forums. I get it, You don't like Apple. Don't buy one then.
Wait and see, Apple will take us to space one day, wait and see. Oh, it'll be called iShuttle (something like that). iPad 3, what's that?
The people who just got an iPad 2 for christmas must be fuming at this news. lol
Shyt, didn't they just come out with iPad 2? why can't these fools wait for bout 3-5 yrs before springing another newer version on us.... What if they did this with game systems, lol..... we wouldn't be able to keep up
...I'm getting sick of these certain sounding articles, and then getting to the end only to read "certain sources say". Can we get a [RUMOR} headline at least?
I can buy a PS3 Uncharted bundle for way less and get a thousand times more enjoyment out of it than this casual tablet device.
I have only one rule, One PC for GAMES... One Mac for EVERYTHING ELSE... That's my Rule... Unless... She's hot!!!!
Get excited Apple nation, whatever you thought was missing from the iPad2, you will get one of those components on the iPad3, same as you do with each annual Apple release LOL We really need to stop being slaves to Apple (and a whole lot of other companies that follow suit, because they aren't the only ones) and their annual faux upgrades to devices that sucker us in to spend hundreds more of our money.

I heard that the iPad 3 is really a Decepticon sent to earth to take over the planet.
So what if the iPad hardware is revised every year? How is that $500 Core i7 Sandy Bridge treating you? Well... but didn't you realize they were releasing the Ivy Bridge with six-core and hyperthreading this year? Well you should have held out. Oh wait, you should probably wait until next year when the next generation of Intel processors releases. Or better yet wait 2 years for the those processors to mature... of course at that point you might as well wait for the generation after that or the generation after that or.... Anyone getting my point yet?
@kais112 Windows 8 is not going to solve the problems you have with the iPad. The iPad isn't targeted for someone who is willing to shell out a few hundred extra $$ for a laptop/ultrabook/Win8 tablet to play games on. They are getting the iPad to play some decent touch-based games on a small form-factor device. If you're looking for a portable gaming device the iPad probably isn't the best choice for the cost. But it's going to give you a fairly fleshed out experience through it's large app selection. Still I would recommend going with a Vita or 3DS if your focus is gaming. Otherwise, if PC games are your thing, then splurge a little more on an ultrabook. Just looking at an iPad as a gaming device is going to extremely devalue the device. Ton's of people use their iPads every day for things other than gaming. Gaming is just a great bonus on the device. Since games are the biggest selling apps on the App Store and those sales have impacted the dedicated game device market, it is important to note when a new one is coming out; explaining why Gamespot spends time posting these articles.
what really sucks about this is apple will still charge the same price for the older stuff. if a 1000.00 pc comes out and next year the release a new one the older model drops in price. only way you can get a some what check ipad is used which is lame but thats how i will support apple. by making sure they get none of my money.
i think im going to hold out a few months and wait for the apple ipad 12.............
yawn.
crappy over priced rubbish! and people are complaing the ps vita is expensive lol
@ marco1k1 "What you don't seem to understand is, The majority of people in this world are sad morons who would gladly coff-up another £100/£200 for these things just to because Apple is a popular product to own right now." What you don't seem to understand is, the majority of people in this world actually don't care about buying an iPad or tablet in any form at all.
I'm getting a tablet soon. I have been waiting to hear about this before I make a final decision.
All the new features are things they could have had on the first IPAD. People will keep getting ripped of for the lifetime of this product. Apple obviously knows how to make money. Gotta respect them for that. When the 4th and 5th generations come out, the new features on those could have been on the first IPAD. These companies plan out the next 5-10 years in one meeting. People need to stop buying old technology.
@tidusjeff Three comments, Holy poop. Dude, I hate it all the same when any other company does it and I don't condone it for Sony or Nintendo, However there is a simple solution... just don't buy the new version if you have the 1st version, I bought a PSP-2000 because I didn't have a PSP yet and I bought a original DS in like 2009 or something so no I'm not bias and this accounts for a lot of people too as well as some apple fans.
@damo320 What you don't seem to understand is, The majority of people in this world are sad morons who would gladly coff-up another £100/£200 for these things just to because Apple is a popular product to own right now. So no, I down your comment unlike others who only took what you said at face value without proper evaluation, Albeit when only looked at it like that then yes, you are correct.
For a start, No one who 'games' on an Ipad or Iphone or phone is really a gamer. Secondly, Why the hell does the article have a picture of an Ipad running WoW.. in Wrath of the Lich King? It would be horrible to play even if it did run (and if it does, It will be horribly slow) imagine trying to move around quickly and effectively in a raid, Mess that idea! Its touch screen! so its good! Anyway apart from flying off the handle I don't see why anyone would want another Ipad so soon, Especially considering the amount it cost the first time round... and the second... (seeing a pattern here?)
But I just bought my ipad2! lol, just kidding. I'm going to wait for the (*rolls dice*) ipad 7 and hope it's the last in the line
im confused, the subject of this is an announcement of an announcement??
do not want.
