Nintendo dominates island nation's weekly sales charts, as space-borne plumber pushes a quarter of a million units in its first week.
This week, Nintendo's iconic mustachioed plumber deftly worked the pipes stateside, racking up high praise for his debut on the Wii with Super Mario Galaxy. However, Mario's space odyssey has been out in Japan since November 1, and Japanese gamers have been ushering his arrival with a plateful of yen. In the four days since launch, Super Mario Galaxy has sold 251,000 units, according to the latest figures from stat trackers Media Create.
Indicative of the island nation's continued fascination with Nintendo's hardware, the House that Mario Built commandeered eight of the top 10 slots in this week's sales chart. The Nintendo DS accounted for the bulk of those sales, with Final Fantasy Tactics A2 landing in the third position with 51,000 units sold, DS Literature Collection in fifth selling 18,000, and DS Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent at sixth with 18,000 units.
Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day, World Soccer Winning Eleven DS: Goal to Goal, and Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon: Time Expedition Party rounded out the top 10 with 15,000, 15,000 again, and 14,000 units, respectively. A staple of Japan's charts, Wii Sports, which is not packed in with Nintendo's console in Japan, moved 16,000 more units, bringing its lifetime total to 2,182,000.
While the Xbox 360 continues to struggle in Japan, some homecourt publishers have been able to find a foothold in the market. Case in point, Namco Bandai made a strong debut for the week with Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation moving 77,000 units, securing second place. Another new entrant in Japan's charts, Banpresto's Super Robot Wars Scramble Commander the 2nd, sold 21,000 copies and filed in at the fourth slot.

it makes me laugh how many people on here dont read articles right, it says sold in JAPAN IN 4 DAY NOT WORLDWIDE sheeesh. 250000 is alot for 4 days in japan. plus i still cant understand as well why people compare mario to halo its just stupid, well thats fanboys for ya, i like both those game but they are both different, and who cares how much they sell its not like your getting the money for each one sold.

How many units did Halo sell in Japan since it was released on Sept 25th??? Somewhere around 80,000. That's 170,000 less in a month and a half, then Mario sold in 4 days. I cant believe my eyes with all negative talk here. 250,000 in Japan in 4 days is huge, and this is a game that is a casual pick-up, not heavily reliant on pre-buys like those on the 360/PS3 tend to be. Also, Nintendo first-party titles have almost always kept a consistant sales record week after week, often times even escalating over time. This is a great starting point, and there will be Millions sold (yes, plural) before November is out worldwide. Then Xmas hits. It's good to be Nintendo.

I don't think I'll ever understand the Japanese, Super Robot Wars Scramble Commander the 2nd sold 21,000 copies?!? There must be a translation error or something. 250,000 is a bit low for a nation containing 4 million Wiis, I was expecting something along the lines of 500-750k.
HXCDEW 250k is still pretty low for Mario, even though it sold almost as many as the next nine games combined. I thought there was a million pre-order for this game? Did you read the Title?...It says JAPAN CHART as in Japan. The game doesnt come out until Monday Nov 12, at 12 a.m.

It's also weird the only other Wii game on the top 10 is Wii Sports. So once you finish Mario, I don't see what else is there compelling enough to play for months.

how boring is it getting tha people keep bringing halo3 up in all threads, get over it that games come and gone yes it sold verry well but its not the only game out there. SMG has sold quite alot in 4 days really and it wasnt advertised to death either, the game looks great.
Mario Galaxy is gonna be a top seller this gen and might sell more than Mario 64 did. Mario is huge in Japan and so is Nintendo.
What Nintendo lacked in the delay of Brawl they made up for in the arrival of Mario Galaxy. I'm very impressed with the sales and the superb reviews and ratings I've seen so far. I MUST OWN THE GAME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (starts to add it in his X-mas list) :lol:

251,000 Units is kinda weak don't you think? But who knows maybe if it sells that you know times maybe 7 or 8 in japan that would make sense? But I can't wait for this game I feel as If I will die with out it!
