Final Fantasy V Advance off to a strong start, sandwiched at number two between a pair of Pokémon games.
Friday brings us another fresh batch of Japan software sales statistics from entertainment analysts Media Create Co., Ltd. Based on the firm's figures for sales of the most popular console games, the week saw a bit of a dip compared to the previous week. For the week of October 9-15, the top 100 games sold a total of 949,807 copies, or about 73 percent of last week's top 100 sum of 1,301,313.
Although this week underperformed the running average for the business year, it outperformed by a wide margin the second week of October 2005, during which the top 100 collectively sold 512,623 copies. Media Create notes it was a tough week for the newcomers; of the 10 new games that made their top 100, only two--Final Fantasy V Advance and Bleach: Blade Battles--broke 10,000 copies.
Zooming in on individual games, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl continued to sell at a brisk pace, moving 159,443 and 116,051 copies, respectively. The number two game, Square Enix's port of the 1992 Final Fantasy V for the GameBoy Advance, also made a fairly strong debut showing with 124,840 units moved in the latter half of the week.
While Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the PlayStation 2 was knocked out of the top position, it hung in at fourth place. Another anime-derived PS2 title, Bleach, fared well, landing at number eight in its first week. Also proving remarkably popular for a game devoted entirely to quizzing players on their knowledge of Sino-Japanese characters, KanKen DS placed sixth for the third week in a row.

Does Japan ever have any variety in top games? I pretty much guessed all that was on this list before I even clicked on the story >=(
HA... The DS is doing really well over there.. Im glad too... But its becuase video games are really big over there.. Like if you were taking a bus in the states.. and someone saw you playing ur DS youd get made fun of.. But in Japan... Everyones playin a DS there.
Wow, a GBA game. And there's not as much Nintendo bashing as I thought there'd be! And whoever said D/P was selling because it was a Pokemon title needs to grow up. The games sell for a reason...THEY'RE GOOD. But I do agree that all other Pokemon properties suck (the anime, toys, etc.).
Uh, TintedChimes... the PSP sucks. The people of Japan are smart and buy DS games because the DS is better.
My Japan Games Choice (in order) GUILTY GEAR XX SLASH MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza THE KING OF FIGHTERS XI STREET FIGHTER ZERO (ALPHA) FIGHTER'S GENERATION Best Console - PS2
Pokemon, Final Fantasy, DBZ....Good games put there has to be a winner an it had to be Pokemon games, then FF and then DBZ. Ohh well i like those games any ways.
I also would prefer Pokemon Diamond because I like diamonds as gems but not pearls which can be equally expensive and thus are two gems at the same quality/rarity level. Pearls simply don't fit me cause I am pale and they are too big for a small person like me. One version always sold better than the other (I like Bulbasaur more than Charizard and the Pokemon's green colour more than the red one used - blue more than red long ago - and I like sapphires more than rubys apart from that Kyogre looks better than Groudon.) I will buy both versions as usual (the one prefered earlier) as no one of my friends likes Pokemon. :( And of course, congratulations to FFV. You still have the power to rule, cause you are simply a good game. I love you and I am impatiently looking forward to you. (That is a proof for: the quality of a game does not depend on its graphics.)
Congrats to Final Fantasy breaking up the Pokemon Top 2, GO DIAMOND looks like Animal Crossing is the longest laster!
lol, the GBASP outsold the Xbox360 for last week in japan! GBASP 2,299 Xbox360 1,743 thanks to meimnobody for the data!
Looking at the difference in sales between diamond and pearl versions of pokemon I can't help but think Nintendo could've picked a better name for Pearl.
I hope Animal Crossing manages to stay in the top ten for a year, now that would be an amazing achievement, awesome game, although it'll b tough with the ps3 and wii out next month.
DS games are selling so well the factories cannot keep up with demand. It's unprecented. Not since the days of the NES has there been such a high demand for games. 1. "ok, thats it for 3rd party games on tehn DS, FF III is knocked from top ten *cries*, why Nintendo and SE, why? " C'mon. Are you really surprised? It sold so many, so fast, that either: A) They're nearly out of supply. B) Everyone who was going to buy it at launch, already has it. or C) They bought FFV this week instead. It'll break the one million mark, no problem.
