Longest Journey trekking to iPhone

By Jonathan Downin

Funcom confirms well-regarded adventure game will see release on Apple's mobile phone; release date TBA.

Funcom's The Longest Journey was a critical hit upon release. The fan favorite is now over a decade old, but a new way to experience protagonist April Ryan's adventure is on the way.

Speaking with VideoGamer.com, Funcom creative director Ragnar Tornquist revealed that The Longest Journey will be returning as an iPhone title. Tornquist did not indicate whether the game would be available on other iOS platforms, nor did he reveal a release window for the title.

The Longest Journey is a classic-style point-and-click adventure game that places the player in the role of April Ryan, a young woman with the power to shift between parallel worlds of technology and magic. Through her journey, April finds that she is the only one with the ability to save both worlds from destruction.

A third-person action adventure sequel to The Longest Journey was released in 2006's Dreamfall: The Longest Journey for the PC and the original Xbox.

Reminds me I still haven't finished The Longest Journey. It is definitely a long journey for me.

I love this and Dreamfall. I'd die for an HD collection or at least a PSN release of both. ID also love to see Dreamfall: Chapters finally begin production and released for PS3 or PSN!

I still have my copy of the game, loved the game and all, but I can't see myself playing that on a phone

I have the PC version, but I want to play it on my iPhone, :D I hope Its run better than stupid and laggy NFS Shift for iPhone... :?

@shahroz47: I do! I do want this game in psn and xbox live with trophies and achievement support.

tonyleo01 5 pts

I still have the gigantic PC box of this game.

Anyone else want this re-released as a PSN and Xbox Live downloadable game with Trophy and Achievement support. No? Just me? Sigh....

I hope point and click adventure games find life on mobile platforms, especially tablets. I keep buying them whenever Steam has sales for them for PC.

I really HOPE this means they'll FINALLY wrap up the trilogy. This is one of the best in the genre, btw.

TLJ is one of the all-time great point-and-click adventure games. Funcom has dropped the ball by not releasing updates to the series.

cool. I never got around to playing the pc version. It'll be nice having this game on the go. It should look beautiful on the retina display of the 4, 4S.

firedrakes: I agree and I hope that we get one.

Why is there no link to GameSpot's review of the original? Tut tut Anyway, this is a great way for people to play the game who haven't already.

i want dreamfall chapters. oh wait, i want to go and play the longest journey/dreamfall again. yippee

Wow, that is exciting. I stumbled upon Dreamfall. Loved it, so I bought TLJ as well and (for being someone that hates point & click games) still loved it to death. Definitely going to buy this. Hope it gets ported to other OSs too.

Ground_Zero 5 pts

when are they going to do the episodes for dreamfall?

Darkreaper_1 13 pts

I played the sequel "Dreamfall" and thought that was a awesome game. Can't wait to get my hands on the original!

Damn, this is my Deux Ex, which means now I think I'll have to install and playing it again before Skyrim hits (thank you GoG! :P) Hope this means they might start on continuing the series, whatever you think about it, the way Dreamfall ended has had me yearning for a sequel since.

I'm glad Tornquist is wasting him time in re-releasing an old game (a very very good game...but old nonetheless) whereas those efforts could be put completely towards the Dreamfall Chapters. Why does he torture us like this by having Funcom work on all these other things like Age of Conan and The Secret World?! :(

One of the best if not the best adventure game. No other game can combine medieval fantasy/ futuristic like TLJ . If you haven't played it, give it a chance.

BloodMist 15 pts

For those who haven't played it, this is THE best adventure game ever made, without equal.Definitely worth a playthrough no matter who you are, if you're a fan of fantastic storytelling of any kind.

Seems a better fit for the iPad. Hoping it is a universal app.

What a great game. If it sells well enough maybe we can finally get another game to continue the story. Or perhaps a new version of Dreamfall that doesn't end abruptly without resolving a goddamn thing. 5 years later and that still pisses me off.

Improve the visuals, add Game Center support and use the cash for The Longest Journey 3 and it's a deal.

Hurry up and make the new one!

Better idea: buy the GOG version and support DRM-free gaming.

One of my all-time favorites; April Ryan is such a memorable character. If you haven't played it, here's your chance.

This is great news! Not only will I finally be able to play this game, but I'll be able to play it on the go (and I'm on the go a lot anymore). :)

firedrakes 13 pts

Dreamfall left with huge cliffhanger.

Sweet! I never got around to playing this game.
