I'm excited for this. I love action RPGs, and I loved Lufia II for the SNES when I was a little girl. Can't wait for Wednesday!
Natsume's localized DS remake Curse of the Sinistrals ditches series' roots for action-RPG experience.
The Nintendo DS revamp of 1995's Super Nintendo role-playing game Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals is coming to North America from publisher Natsume. The slightly re-titled Lufia II: Curse of the Sinistrals will arrive in stores this fall and will be shown next month at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Curse of the Sinistrals abandons the SNES game's turn-based mechanics in favor of an action role-playing game slant. Players will assume the role of Maxim the monster hunter, fighting to defeat the four nefarious "Sinistrals," whose acts are plaguing the countryside. Throughout the course of the game's narrative, Maxim will band together with five others, traversing the game's geography, solving puzzles, defeating enemies, and collecting items.
The franchise originated in 1993 with Lufia & The Fortress of Doom on the SNES and was followed by the aforesaid Rise of the Sinistrals two years later. Although it began on consoles, the most recent entries in the series have released exclusively on portable devices. Lufia: The Legend Returns came to the GameBoy Color in North America in 2001, followed by Lufia: The Ruins of Lore on the GameBoy Advance in 2003. Each entry was an RPG experience like its predecessors, although Ruins of Lore was a side story in the Lufia overall narrative.
I'm a little disapointed. I expected turn based battle system not action rpg. If ain't broke don't fix it Natsume.
i loved the trun based fighting of lufia, identical to FF series.. i hope the action rpg style wont dumb this down
Can't wait to get this game but still I need to get Dragon Quest IX, Golden Sun DS, and Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadows first. So many great RPGs popping out this year and to make matter even more exciting, a Fire Emblem remake, Dragon Quest VI, Dragon Ball: Origins 2, and Final Fantasy Gaiden: Four Warriors of Light are also coming too.
Changing a classic as drastic as this from classic RPG to Action RPG, I think it will upset a lot of diehard fans.
WOOT!!! I Love the Lufia Series and I have the import to this game. It's Average to tell you the truth.
I'm real skeptical about this reincarnation. I remember playing the Lufia series as a kid and I love the old style RPG sense it gave me. I do think the Action RPG genre still has a long way to go....
Famitsu and the Japanese were not impressed with this game (it sold less than 50,000 copies in Japan and did not get an impressive scrore from Famitsu), and I expect the same for its overseas release.
I hope they don't dumb down lufia 2...... remakes tend to be toothless and shadows of themselves....
Hmmm, why remake Rise of the Sinistrals first? Well, Lufia 2 was a prequel to Lufia 1. So maybe they will release the games in chronological order instead of in the order of release. I am not sure I am interested in an action RPG slant for the remake though. Maybe I should just fire up an emulator and relive the glory of these games.
Now that's a name I never expected to see again. Then again, Natsume started the whole farm simulator thing which has blown up all over the world. I guess I could see them trying to cash in on past success.
Evenios, it is a fortunate thing that "super amazing elite video game graphics" aren't what make a good video game, otherwise the ps2, nintendo ds and all of those gameboys wouldn't have outsold everything in existence. The ipod isn't the most superior mp3 player out there but it is the most popular and that is why an ungodly amount of accessories fill retail stores. It's where the money is and to the average person it is the most accessible.
ugh would these companys stop making ds exclusive remakes? I mean if your going to make a remake the DS is the worst platform to do it on. at least do it on a psp or even better ps3 , xbox 360. The ds's graphics are outdated!
I liked the Lufia games on SNES, but I'd probably just play the originals again. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd want to play it as an action RPG. Games like this is are usually still good due to nostalgia, so a remake that changes things has to be a great game overall, not just a remake.
I got excited until I saw it was going to be changed. It better be a good change as I expect any Lufia to be a great game.
It looks like they changed a lot more than just the battle system. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
I don't think the lack of the turn based battles is really going to change all that much, it was mostly a Dragon Quest ripoff. What really set the Lufia series apart were the really hard puzzles!
Lufia 2 on the DS? Awesome! Boy am I happy...oh, wait...they're changing the battle mechanic from turn based to action adventure?...they had me excited for a minute there. I'll be passing on this one and hope they release the real Lufia 2 on the Virtual Console.
Huh? Tosses turn-based mechanics in favor of an action role-playing game slant. I'm not going to like this.
yay! although i'm not so sure about the action thing...i really like the original. oh well i guess we'll see
Wow This was my favorite game for a very long time, but if they changed the battle system to an action system I'm not sure I even want to bother with the game.
Changing the game from a turn based RPG to an Action RPG is not a good change IMO. But, I will have to read the reviews before I make my decision to buy it.
