Luigi-themed DLC coming to New Super Mario Bros. U

New Super Luigi U expansion due in 2013 makes all 80-plus courses "all-new"; no price announced.

Nintendo today announced Luigi-themed downloadable content for the Wii U launch title New Super Mario Bros. U. The New Super Luigi U expansion will be released in 2013, which Nintendo has branded the "year of Luigi."

According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the content is "large-scale," similar in development to a full game.

"We are currently developing a new adventure starring Luigi. This will be large-scale downloadable content which is similar to the development of full software," Iwata said during a Nintendo Direct presentation today. "So it will take some time."

No specific release date or price for New Super Luigi U was announced.

Nintendo made a range of other announcements during its presentation today. These included giving Animal Crossing: New Leaf a June release date and revealing new games like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario Golf: World Tour, and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

I'd love to know this will take some time. The crank these "NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS" games every year, don't they and are relatively the same thing ove and over? But, knowing Nintendo and my "VAST" Wii U Game collection, it'll be delayed another year or something. And probably be priced at full retail. -_-

This should be a physical retail release.....I want to *OWN* my content, thanks. Now nintendo is getting in on the irresistible nickel and diming bandwagon. Sure this may be meaty DLC, but look at fire emblem and the nickel and diming that's going on there. This luigi DLC should be made available on physical disc.

This will probably be stupid milking like 95% of DLC but why so much hate? Grow up!

Hopefully Nintendo takes the R*/2k approach to DLC. I've been satisfied with most the DLC I bought from them.

It would be sad(not surprising  to see Nintendo follow the majority of the industry and just start milking games through overpriced DLC.

So they mix around all 80 of the levels, add a few things, color Mario green and put it up for download.

@Jag-T1000 Luigi is also taller and thiner so they stretch  mario a bit too.

I'm know game designer but how hard could designing a new course for this game be?  If Nintendo gave users mod tools, this game could already have like 85,000 new courses.

@Rotondi It would be great if they did but I suspect Nintendo would never be able to release another Mario side-scroller after doing so.

I hope the dlc is overpriced.  Nintendo please make the sheep pay then after a year come out with a collector's edition that has the original game and the dlc.  Include a metal case, art book, and a figure of mario flipping you off.  Sell it for over a hundred dollars and then piss gamers off by not making enough to fill the pre-order demand.  Make those sheep pay Nintendo.  Muhahahahahaha  ha.

@moncealyo im sorry but why is that bad? i buy CE of the series i like, the latest one i got was DS3.. and the 170s us dollars i spend were VERY well spend, same with my BL2 CE. They sell the game by itself, they dont force u to get it. (or are u making a different point that i missed here?)

i would never understand people that complain bc a company is releasing a CE ...

@moncealyo sure, like your CoD map pack what are they $15 for 4 maps lol

@emptycow2 I don't play COD but I agree with the similarity.  Both companies are trying to rip off the gamer.

@moncealyo @emptycow2 lmao I see where you're coming from but this might not necessarily be a ripoff. DLC done right extends the life of a game. When a game has a severe lack of multiplayer maps and announces the release date of 3 maps dlc before the game even comes out *cough* *cough* halo 4 *cough* that's a ripoff. Nintendo's new to this, so let's see how it plays out lol

A DLC that changes the ENTIRE game, now that is DLC done right.

@FullMonty1394 Looks like Nintendo is keeping it old-school. I remember the Half-Life 1 expansions, $15 for what's practically a new game.

Ok so from the title they are just reworking the levels to make them "new". So basically the same workflow they have used for Mario games since it was created.

I am sick of all these cool games coming out for the 3DS, don't they see the Wii U flopping in sales and games?  WTF?

djmaster1994

@Andrew1073 Wii U been out for 3 month

3DS been out for two years.
What do you expect.
Look at PS2 overlapping PS3

PSP overlapping Vita

SNES overlapping N64

with FFVI, Chrono, Donkey Kong, Mario RPG and Super Metroid.

@Andrew1073 You forget about the last direct conference already?

Andrew1073
Andrew1073

@thetravman @Andrew1073 No.  I don't see how this correlates?  They are obviously using many resources to develop all of these 3ds games (that also skipped the wii), when their brand new console is not doing super great.  Make all the games available to both consoles, or I dont know.  Is the 3DS doing well?  I don't even know, but I would assume the Wii U has more potential to make money, no?  Either way, it irks me that 3DS gets all these great games.

thetravman

@Andrew1073 @thetravman You're implying the games 'coming' to the 3DS, and yet the last Nintendo Direct was focused solely on the WiiU and it announced many incoming games for the system.  I assumed you forgot about it or just didn't know.

@queuing_for_PS4 DLC on a Sony console........ LOL. See I can do that too.

Nintendo has been doing DLC for a while now so it's not really something that should be surprising o.O . I believe you can count the Pokemon mystery Events as DLC.
