German ratings board reveals a Games Convention trailer for sequel to 2002 PC game.
Take-Two Interactive is apparently working on a reunion for "la famiglia," as Czech site Tiscali Games today spotted a listing on the German ratings board's database for a Mafia 2 promotional trailer to debut at next week's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany.
This is not the first time a game's existence has been discovered via the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK). Late last month, the ratings board leaked word of the next World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. As with Mafia 2, that entry was not a rating for the game itself, but a rating for the promotional trailer meant to be revealed at Leipzig. Also much like the Wrath of the Lich King entry, the Mafia sequel listing was quickly pulled after it started circulating around news sites. A representative with Take-Two had not returned GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.
Originally released on the PC in 2002, Illusion Softworks' Mafia received a fair amount of critical acclaim for its combination of a Grand Theft Auto III-style living city with some of the structure and set pieces of traditional third-person action games. The game made it to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2004, but reviews indicated it had lost something in the translation.
I didn't like the driving or the combat on the first one, But I loved the story. And I got to say it made up for the other stuff that I didn't like in the game. Hopefully this one has just as nice of a story as the last.
I just bought the original game, and I have to say that it is a complete and utter let-down. The driving and the combat are both severely broken, and I can't bring myself to complete the game.
Mafia is the best game, and Mafia 2 Shall rule too :D Dam we all waited 8 years for this! And finally its announced :D WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG! :D
this is the best game for pc i have ever played. hope they release the pc version at the same time with console versoin. just dont' keep waiting like gta4.
Mafia 2 for real??? That's AWESOME!! :D :D I've always waited for my All-Time-Favourite game's sequel to be released! :D :D
Mafia is one of the best P.C. games, I've been waiting for them to make a sequel and it's about time.
It will be interesting to see what Take-Two can come up with to differentiate Mafia 2 from the mountain of 3rd-person crime games already out there. -blackfire83
Fingers crossed that Mafia gets its sequel. The first game is one of my all time favourites. Great graphics (at the time), great action and great story. Hope a sequel will have loads more.
Mafia (PC) was a superb game! Console versions weren't that good..... Hope there will be a new one and it'll rock!! :)
Mafia had everything done right. The action movie-like, the graphics coherent, the story so rich in emotions. The car dynamics was very realistic for an action game, though the slow cars meant they were still easy to drive. Shooting w/ mouse while driving w/ wheel was a blast (as mentioned)! How about a prequel this time? Mafia 2: The Don
For me, when a game comes out, i dont compare it to any other, when mafia came out, i took it like a new game, i didnt want to compare it to GTA...and Mafia was awsome, good graphics, good story, action, shooting /driving sections. Very good game, and like aaron5829 said..i personally found it better then godfather..and mafia's end..was just...excellent...worthy of a movie.
Mafia was a fun game on the PC... not so on the PS2. Actually it sucked on the PS2. I liked Mafia more than Godfather to be honest.
The reason so many people didn't like Mafia when it first came out was because it came out around when GTA 3 was first released and a lot of people were expecting a 30's GTA 3 (I was one of them so I didn't play it) when it was more of an action/adventure style game. Played it and finished it this year and the story is enough to highly recommend it. Plus the music rocks!
I can't wait to see it, I finished Mafia at least 10 times and every time I found something interesting in that huge city
Hell yeah I remember Mafia from way back in the day. That game was pretty good hopefully this one will be tight to.
I loved Mafia for the PC. It had one of the most vibrant and interesting cities I've seen in a sandbox game. Plus I loved barreling down the street at a whopping 60 mph listening to some crazy clarinet jazz.
I had the Mafia for the PC and it was awesome. I worked out you could hook a steering wheel to the PC and play the game so that when you were running about you could use the keyboard and mouse and when you jumped in a car you could acctually drive it. It also meant by having the mouse nearby you could drive with one hand and then shoot with the other. It was bloody awesome. I completed the game in the end. Loved every minute of it.
OMG!!! MAFIA was single handedly my FAV Game of all time! Oh man!!! The story...oh man...so emotional at the end.
GameDestroyer, You really need to play Mafia. It's actualy one of the funnest games ever made... some parts are really intense too.
The game was actually amazingly good. Made car chases a challenge, and had a good balance between realism and fun, especially when it came to the driving aspect.
Yeah I just did watch the video review...honestly it didn't look all that great in my eyes, but we are talking about a game that was made in 2002 lol.
Actually know, for the PC MAFIA is one of the most amazing games I've ever played. Blows "The Godfather" A million miles away when it comes to well..playing as a character in the mafia. You have to play it to understand it, go watch the Video Review of the PC game on gamespot.
Wasn't this game absolutely horrible? I never played it, but I heard that it was the definition of ASS. So now they're making a sequel to it...*sigh* there is no justice in this world anymore.
Excellent news. Even if it did lose something in the translation for consoles (the console releases were much later on, after all), I thought Mafia was one of the best games I played for the Xbox. The city was alive, the soundtrack was excellent and the 30's feel of the game was authentic and immersive. The cars fishtailed and were generally slow, but I wouldn't have it any other way in a game set in the 30's. The story was good, most of the voice acting was great and the gameplay was, for me, good enough to make the game worth finishing twice. The campaign was plenty long, as well, with a fair amount of variety.
How can people dislike this game?? It's one of the best games EVER and my personal favourite, the world was so immersive and the story was absolutely fantastic!! I CAN'T WAIT for this to come out :D :D :D
One of the most broken games I ever played. So much potential, but man did it suck. Ilusion would have it's work cut out to get me to buy it................
lol, i think im the only one who enjoyed The Mafia. I played it on my Xbox and loved it, i never beat it. It was too damn hard. But i would love to see Mafia 2.
