2K Czech's organized crime action game will see players go from rags to ill-gotten riches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
The original Mafia has gone seven years without having seen a sequel hit shelves, but it won't go eight. Take-Two Interactive today announced that Mafia II will arrive in North American stores on August 24 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The original Mafia was released by future Take-Two acquisition The Gathering on August 28, 2002.
Set in the '40s and '50s, Mafia II follows would-be wise guy Vito, a first-generation Italian-American trying to escape a life of poverty. Desperate for something better, Vito joins his paisano Joe in la famiglia with the hopes of rising through the ranks and becoming a made man. Take-Two is touting the game's attention to period detail, going so far as to strike a deal with Playboy to include era-appropriate magazines in the game.
Mafia II is just one part of what's shaping up to be a very busy quarter for Take-Two. Between August and October, the publisher has also scheduled launches for Civilization V, Max Payne 3, and L.A. Noire. Not all of those titles are guaranteed to hit that soon, however. The publisher told investors earlier this month that its financial projections allow for one of those games to slip beyond October.

Can someone tell me just one thing.Did the put they trolleys, street cars, tramways or whatever you call it in mafia 2 cause I didn t see them in any of the gameplays or rewiews and it would be a shame not to have them in the game. They were not removed till the 60's or 70's.
I played Mafia and it was amazing as everyone agrees, but I hope the sequel has more depth and rpg elements rather than a straight-shooter with crazy action sequences.
mafia 1 on pc was an instant classic, ahead of its time. too bad the port over to ps2 lost of its graphical flare and gameplay in my opinion. if this sequel follows suit then theres no doubt it will be a hit even on the consoles since the computing power is there now
I've played the Original MAFIA PC game, 2 or maybe 3 hundred times. I must be one of the oldest players that are still out here playing this Antique and Blargsman is completely correct when he states that "MAFIA", IS, a total classic! I can still find new ways to fight the Bums & Thugs, Steal the cars, accomplish the missions, etc. With all the talented and creative young minds out there, Why hasn't anyone written any add-on programming for the fans of this fun and teriffic game? See ya all in August (I Hope the game turns out to be as good as the previews appear to be!)
If the first Mafia is anything to judge this sequel by - it'll be nothing short of amazing. Mafia was an underrated classic.
I've been waiting for this game for who knows how long and come August 24 I think i'll still be waiting.
Can't say I'm not a tad apprehensive, I mean Denby Grace is a great story teller and I really love that interview but it starts to get old after you've seen it a few hundred times . . . Now see here you rats, me and machine gun annie get one of the first copies. see, Yea, and another thing we ever see any of you thugs around our turf you aint going to live to regret it see! Yea.
@tevic: agreed, when I first read about LA Noire in Game Informer and saw the last quarter 2010 release date I thought no way, this is my first time hearing of or about this game and the release date is only a few months away??? plzzz, not take 2. I would say summer 2011 is more like it. Same thing happened with Mafia 2 and Max Payne 3.
@TheGreyArea What are you talking about? It's coming out on PC at the same time too :) The PC version looks incredible.
@ MafiaBroad82: Here is my bet: Mafia 2 end of August, LA Noire delayed to 2011, and the yet unannounced GTA Vice City 2 in november.
Thank you!! This game has been delayed long enough! And With Take-2's track record I highly doubt that LA Noire will be released this year, maybe MP3 , but that's iffy also
this looks beautiful. very stylish. GUTTED this isn't getting a PC release, so will definitely pick-up my xbox copy
@aks_kaikini It most likely will have a stupid DRM u should get a console because game development companies are killing the PC market with this DRM crap.
I hope that one game that could possibly be held back is civ V because I could couldn't care less about that game but all there other titles coming out look to be pretty good.
Gamer_4_Fun I'm with you! Original Mafia is my 1# favorite game, can't wait for Mafia 2, this is great news!
I can't wait for Mafia II, La Nior looks interesting too..... I also welcome back Max Payne but I'm wondering if it will be any good, I loved Max Payne 2 so I'm hoping the third game will live up to the hype.......
Sooo cannot wait...gonna have to wait a long time, but i can't, gah!Ahh...at least it's not 7 more years.Mafia 1 is one of the best action games ever, BTW.
guys guys guys, do you think this game will have the awful "stay online permanently" DRM?? i hope not. and i hope this game releases on all platforms on the same date. I dont own consoles so dont want to see it releasing like 5 months later on pc
I've had PC version preordered for a long time now. Thinking about also picking it up for Xbox 360 too.
Will blow GTA4 out of the water as far as graphics 100%. Also it will have a lot less bugs. R* games are flaky.
