pokemon is boring, final fantasy 13 is the best one of its series and the best sold in march, that ive played, btw ive only played final fantasy 12 and 13, and seen 10 played at a friends house PS3 BEST,ps2 still sells,i didnt know that, xbox is good but not as good as the ps3
Four games go platinum as domestic industry bounces back by 6 percent; DS sells 700,800, Wii sells 557,500; 360 edges out PS3.
After a dreary year that saw just one monthly increase in domestic game sales, March came in like a lion…and left like a lion. Thanks to a slew of blockbuster releases, combined sales of non-PC game hardware, software, and accessories for the month increased 6 percent to $1.44 billion, according to the NPD Group.
"In terms of total revenue, March 2010 is the third best non-holiday month on record behind March 2008 and June 2008," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier in a statement.
Hardware sales were the sole dark spot, falling 4 percent to $440.5 million. In the console race, the DS was the top finisher with 700,800 units. In unsurprising second was the Wii with 557,500 units, followed closely by last month's top console, the Xbox 360, with 338,400 units. The PlayStation 3 had to make do with fourth place and 313,900 units, followed by the PSP with 119,900 units, barely ahead of the nearly 10-year-old PlayStation 2's 118,300 units.
"Wii experienced its best non-holiday sales month (hardware) since March 2009," said Frazier, who also called out the PS3. "Sony's PS3 hardware posted its eighth consecutive month of year-over-year increases. For the first time since its launch in the US, the PS3 has four titles in the Top 10, and was also the leader in console software sales."
Sony's God of War III helped US non-PC software sales shoot up in March, rising 10 percent to $875.3 million. The PlayStation 3 exclusive topped NPD's top 10 list with 1.1 million units sold, the first time a game for Sony's platform has done so since Metal Gear Solid 4 in 2008.
That said, NPD's top 10 lists the highest-selling game software products--aka SKUs--and does not combine sales of multiplatform games. Were it to do that, Nintendo would have the top software prize with twin installments in its megapopular Pokemon series, which are ranked as the same game on Japanese sales charts. Some 1.02 million Pokemon SoulSilvers were taken, and 761,200 Pokemon HeartGolds were captured during the month, for a total of 1.78 million.
Another multiplatform release that went platinum was the long, long, long-awaited Final Fantasy XIII. Combined, the game sold 1.322 million units, moving 828,200 copies on the PS3 and 493,900 on the Xbox 360. Square Enix will likely see the latter figure as vindication for its controversial decision to bring the role-playing game to Microsoft's console outside Japan.
The month's last multiplatform platinum game was Battlefield: Bad Company 2, from Electronic Arts' Swedish studio DICE. The first-person shooter opened with a bang, selling a combined 1.276 million units. The Xbox 360 version of the game came in fourth on NPD's top 10 list with 825,500 million units, while the PS3 version trailed in eighth with 451,200 units.
Rounding out the top 10 were two perennial chart fixtures--New Super Mario Bros. (seventh) and the Wii Fit Plus Balance Board bundle (ninth)--and MLB 10: The Show, Sony's well-reviewed baseball sim for the PS3.

how the hell did pokemon became 2nd and final fantasy xiii became third, what is it lack of taste in games.
It's weird that every multi-platform game sells double on the 360 of what is sold on the PS3; and for the first time it's the opposite with Final Fantasy selling double on the PS3. Very fitting. God of War, the game is killer.
nintendo almost o ut sold ps3 360combin ed , with the price and so i can see why and thegood games recently
Nice to know GOWIII is selling good, it deserves it well. So awesome :'D I loved every moments of it.
@ jofy Check the stats, the 360 is outselling the PS3 overall when you combine all the territories. The only place the PS3 is doing better is Japan, which Big surprise right? seeing as how it's their own product. I love the PS3 fans when they think they are right. the almost 6 million console lead the XBox 360 had at the PS3 launch is still there. PS3 has made little headway. Even with all the "Exclusives" Do you think it's what Sony wants? to come in last in the United States? I doubt it.
@dybbuk Also about money was the fact that they are selling PS2 and PS1 games to download on the PS3 at $20 a pop..lol Money, Money, Money
vader501st@ because FF Versus is set within the same Final Fantasy XIII universe, but it's unrelated to any other entry within the compilation and is thus neither a sequel nor a prequel to any other entries in Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII.
@jsmoke03-PS3 not selling is exactly my point. First off Sony said their main reason was because "gamers don't care about backwards compatibility". But as you stated, we all know the reason was about money. It wasn't even about cutting cost to the PS3. It was about making money on the PS2. If you sell a PS3 that can play PS2 games then you wouldn't have to buy a PS2 to play them. Also Sony was losing money on the sales of the PS3 but making money on the sales of PS2. So it would be a bad business decision on their part to hurt the sales of the PS2. How much did Sony really save by taking out PS2 compatibility, really? Think about it, a PS2 is 100 bucks which includes a controller, packaging, shipping costs etc., we're just talking about a chip in PS3's and for later PS3's just software emulation. It didn't cut their costs by 100 if by any at all. They lied to us man. Sony couldn't sell PS3's because they were to pricey, they couldn't sell PS3's because they were to arrogant to understand that the public was not going to shell out any amount of money for a device that had a Sony logo slapped on it.
@dybbuk- and when it was on, how many ps3's were selling? gamers want this and gamers want that, but when its time to pay up, they complain it was 2 pricey. sony had to cut components out to be able to compete with the prices that were out by then. blu ray was the most expensive components, but they weren't going to cut that out. its just tough luck but honestly theres nothing sony could do when they were loosing out on hardware that wasn't selling well. gamers complain too much about everything....
@giddyupgroudon: I think a more relevant question is: Why did stupid Sony take out backwards compatibility from the PS3?". Oh yeah, because Sony said people didn't want backwards compatibility. So if you enjoy firing up a favorite PS2 game now and then and your PS2 happens to break then you have to go buy a new one instead of taking that money and having the option to invest in a PS3 that could play your PS2 games. Thank for that idiotic move Sony!
FFXIII was ok.. it was not much different than the other engines to me.. I done got EVERY achievement in the game after than it was just boring hey stop putting down sony.. the only reason the 360 is out selling is because it was release a year before the ps3 and yeah the 360 get bought so much now because its #1 on the failure list on failure rate an ms wants 190 bucks to fix it
When you look at the PS3 sales, always keep in mind some consumers buy the PS3 as a multi-device, because of it's also a BR player, and some are buying the PS3 mainly for it's BR player. The X360 is strickly a gaming console, and all of it's sales are from gamers only, and not households who are looking for a BR player and a HD console, combined for only $300. This is why the X360 has the highest software-hardware ratio of the three consoles, and it's why most cross platform games sell more copies.(except for some rare titles such as FFXIII). It also makes you wonder when MS will also go this route, and if it's next console, will be more of an all-in-one entertainment box, rather then a just gaming console. (With it's upcoming Natal, it does seem to show MS is headed in that direction)
@ The crapgamer: I enjoy my PS3 very much. Do you even have either system? Man I hate fanboys. P.S. Thats the perfect name for you. :-)
The_crapgamer,You realise this is just the US sales right? And the PS3 is outselling the xbox in every other territory right? Keep the silly fanboy comments to yourself
I love it. I remember hearing all the Sony fans say "Wait till we get some good exclusives, then we'll outsell XBox 360!" Well you've had your exclusives, how come you are continually outsold by the 360 still? What is going to happen later this year when Halo Reach hits? lol Or Fable 3? Or early next year with Gears 3? GG Sony.. GG
This was expected, as with God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MLB: The Show, and FFXIII, the PS3 had to have a good 1st quater in software sales. what is concerning(from Sony's viewpoint) is that the 360 still outsold it, in a month were the 360 had no exclusives. MS's console exclusives(besides ME2 from jan.), are upcoming..with SC:Conviction(just released), Alan Wake, Halo: Reach, Fable 3..ect, are all due out this spring and this fall, and this is were MS will have huge software sales. Hopefully both consoles continue to sell well in 2010, and both can come close to overtaking that last generation toy called the Wii. (I own all 3 consoles, but the Wii is for my son).
Versus will be good, maybe not great. Why? Because Lightning owns pretty much any other lead the FF series had. Shame Versus won't feature the same cast as XIII. That's my opinion.
@ MagicOneUp crashing down? You realise this is just the US sales right? And the PS3 is outselling the xbox in every other territory right? Keep the silly fanboy comments to yourself both consoles are great both consoles have great exclusives coming why bother being a tard about it? Anyway enough ranting I'm pretty suprised with the xboxs install base in America that it didn't sell that well
i told you guys so... after all the dust has settled, the slim ps3 has crashing down to it permanent 4th spot once again.
@ gordos24 since when hack free is an advantage? and you better forget about the rrod, its old school now. you sony fanboy.
bleh final fantasy is dead. I had been playing it since SNES and yeah, its gone. Just bring on the new Zelda already! oh and if no one has seen what the new pokemon black and white look like go to Kotaku .com they have the first screens and it looks the same so far besides the cam being a little bit more pan down so you are no longer really looking down at a town..sorta ich...NINTENDO >:[ stop recycling!
@jb9776 - I definetly will not argue with you. You obviously know your history with games. However, I was speaking about more recent games in those franchises and which consol had/has the most games released from that franchise. Also, I was only speaking of the most popular gaming companies/the ones that are still in buisness. The last thing is that most (not all) of the games that came to the PS3 from the 360 were either in early to mid-production and/or were not franchises, just single games. (I must re-note that you have a really good memory of the old days! Good job! :D)
@ gordos24 the reason you are stating there is not a reason! ur just saying 360 ppl cop it for rrod and getting banned from live, when ppl mod their 360 they dont buy the game! the figures are for original copies not downloaded or copied so..... i tried honestly i tried but i dont get your point. b4 u go all about the ps3/360 thing i got both but im a sony fan so save it mate!
4x PS3 2x DS 2x Wii 2x Xbox 360 i like how ps3 is performing good! hoping conviction would on the list for next month cause its a good game enjoyed... sorry enjoying it now!!!! =D
I can tell already that once FF versus XIII releases for ps3, it's going to be like mgs4 all over again. The 360 owners are gonna be like "i wantz it too Dx" Tough luck. M$ can't buy you everything it seems...
well the reason the 360 sold more because many gamers got bannend of course not to mention rrod. but ps3 is still hack free go sony!!!
sixoneone* that would not happen they ruined the Final Fantasy XIII game by bringing it to the Xbox 360 its so damn liner its actually ridiculous you no nobody can even class that a "Final Fantasy" title Final Fantasy Verses XIII will stay exclusive to Sony reason being they paid for the exclusivity. I have both machies but i hate playing FFXIII i hope it says exclusive.
@Trathen Understood. @p0p0d0m Who exactly are you trying to convince? Yourself perhaps? Deep down inside I believe that Mass Effect 2 is the greatest game of this generation so far and Killzone is the most overrated. Your opinion is perfectly acceptable, however it is still just an opinion. Please check my profile before deciding I'm a fanboy for not agreeing with you.
God of War III is siiick, Final Fantasy XIII is alright much lower than i expected Bad Company 2 is amazing
PS2 owners are some of the smartest gamers out there: 1. It is the lowest cost console available now. 2. Widest selection of AAA titles available. 3. Lowest priced games for consoles. 4. Does not require upgrading much for maximum gaming experience. and many other things, I just really don't want to go into!!
@giddyupgroudon Stupid people? The PS2 has many great titles, is affordable, and not to mention it's easy for anyone who wants to start gaming to be introduced through the PS2.
Gran Turismo 5 will bury the Xbox!!... Nothing like adding more fuel to the fanboy war is there.. But seriously cannot 2/3 consoles co-exist in the same household? Or is that breaking the 'gaming' law these days..
Playing Xbox One games on somebody else's console will also require a check-in every hour. Full Story
