Mario Tennis Open served up on 3DS May 20

Nintendo brings arcade-style mascot sports game to latest portable with online play, touch-screen and gyroscopic support.
The multitalented Mario is bringing another of his hobbies to 3DS owners, as Nintendo of America today announced that Mario Tennis Open will be released on May 20.
Nintendo confirmed the release date today as part of a Nintendo Direct presentation. The company's European arm separately announced a May 25 release for the game in that region.
The latest arcade-style tennis game to feature the mascot will make use of its host hardware's various features, allowing players to use the touch screen for shot selection and the system's gyroscopic sensor to tilt the camera and look around the court. The game will also feature local wireless play for up to four players and, for the first time in the series, online singles or doubles matches.
This will be the first original Mario Tennis title since 2005's Mario Tennis: Power Tour. However, in 2009, Nintendo rereleased the GameCube title Mario Power Tennis on the Wii with New Play Control support for the Wii Remote. As it did with those titles, Camelot Software Planning is handling development duties for Mario Tennis Open.

Mario Tennis is my favorite Mario sports series. I'm glad they didn't stop after Power Tour. I hope it's more in the vein of Advance Tour with an RPG mode and customizable characters, that was a lot of fun! Plus, online is a perfect addition! No friend codes will be needed!
Good to see this series back in action. I used to play the game all the time on the N64 and Gamecube.
@SLjimbolian Personally, I'd love a Mario Bowling game. But, of course, bowling is the one sport that gets almost no attention at all, except an occasional half-hearted creation by some second-class dev.
Online play, you say?Suddenly I have some interest in this title.Games like this practically beg for it.If it ends up getting an RPG mode, then it'll be a buy for sure.
@ZeroX91 If you know any park where they play Tennis like this or Soccer in electrified fences and gender confused monsters, spitting out giant eggs and such. Let me know, I want to go watch.
@ZeroX91 I agree with you for the majority. While games like NBA, NFL, NHL are nearly impossible to play in because it's major leagues, you can still go outside and play the sport. As for Mario Sports games, they have a ton of fantasy things in them like powerups making it pure fiction.

I can only think of two reason why what I said wouldn't work mental/physical disability or lack of a nearby park. Like you said the point of games is to have fun, but I fail to see how playing it on a tv would more fun than playing it in real life.

All I need is a new Mario Golf, that would be great. The Wiimote seemed like a good fit, but Wii U fits just as well.
Yes, online is in this one! I am so getting it! :D These sport and competitive games need online multiplayer. I do not have many people to play locally. This is great.
Hmm...let's see. Mario's already covered kart racing, baseball, basketball, golf, soccer (or football for you Europeans out there), tennis, volleyball, swimming, diving, track and field, curling, hockey, skiing, figure skating, speed skating, snowboarding, bobsledding, fencing, and polo. Phew. I nominate wrestling next. Well...if you count Smash Bros. for some reason, then let's do rodeo.
Another boring Mario sports game on 3ds, or Motorstorm, Uncharted, Modnation Racers, BlazBlue, etc. on the Vita. :roll:
Must buy for me, I just wonder if it will have an RPG-like mode like the GBC/GBA Mario Tennis, I sure hope it have, that was my favorite mode but even if it doesn't I still can't wait to grab the racket and go online. For those who will get it, see you on the court in may!
Good to know Camelot Software Planning is still with Nintendo. Now if only they could finish the second half of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for 3DS.
