Arcade brawler gets slated for rerelease with online multiplayer; demo to arrive on Sony's system this Thursday.
After months of speculation and rumor, Capcom today finally revealed that it is indeed planning to rerelease the arcade fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes as a downloadable game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A countdown site for the game expired this evening, officially confirming that the game is on its way to the current generation of systems.
While the game won't feature the HD Remix treatment given to Super Street Fighter II Turbo last year, it will include one notable extra in the form of online multiplayer. In fact, Capcom said Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 will feature "the same great online experience" from that title and will have the same visuals as the original game. None of the game's previous North American releases (PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Dreamcast) included online multiplayer, although at one time the feature was originally announced for the Xbox edition. Additional tweaks include an optional visual filter to hide some of the game's blemishes in high definition and a "quarter match" online mode that allows a group of four spectators to chat while two others fight it out.
The game isn't set for release until this summer, but PS3 owners won't need to wait that long to put it through its paces. A Marvel vs. Capcom 2 demo is set to hit the PlayStation Network this Thursday. The sample includes six characters (Ryu, Chun Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Wolverine) and an array of backgrounds.
Last October, the Entertainment Software Rating Board added the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to the list of consoles for which it rated the title. That was followed up last month by a public acknowledgment from Capcom vice president of strategic planning Christian Svensson that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was its most requested title for an HD Remix, adding that it "would be great to do."
When it arrives this summer, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will sell for $14.99 (1,200 Microsoft points).
where and when is this game coming out it came out on my birthday but its still not there its pissing me off
YES!!!! this is the only fighting game I have ever been able to actually play with any skill. this is a great port, and the fact that you wont have to pay 100 bucks for the PS2 version only makes it sweeter. I am gonna be online kicking butts in HD on launch day.
By far the best fighting game in history :D Why are many people complaining about this not being an HD remix? What is there to remix exactly? The animations are fluid and the game runs at 60 fps. However, an MvC3 would be great for the future.
Buying this the day it comes out. I rented it for the PS2 back in 05 or 06 and I've wanted to play it again ever since. Had a chance to buy it for $60 used a few years later but didn't and regretted it since it has climbed another $20 since then. For once I will feel no guilt paying 15 bucks for an XBLA game.
I read on the marvel website that it will support widescreen and 1080p but i dont know how far that info can be trusted.
Well, this is a title I've been milking for 9 years of value on the arcades. It's awesome. Though, why couldn't they have a NEW MvsC? They could have had like, a 100 characters!!! Oh well. Better head back to the arcade :( At least online would be cool.
wow, just finished playing the demo. Heres what happened, I played it for 3 mins, u get 6 characters! then i ended up inserting the mvc2 ps2 disc and let me tell you, minimal graphical upgrades. . . This release is definitely more geared to people who don't already have the original game, or hardcore online players. In this sense I am a little disappointed but at the same time unaffected by this release. perhaps capcom will eventually come out with mvc3 for the next gen consoles, if they could get their hands ahold on a license.
@Everyone: I have this mvc2 on ps2 and in the control options you can set R1 and R2 as fierce punch and kick respectively and you only have to press one to do a super combo, as opposed to pressing square and triangle or x or cirlce. I can't get that to work in the demo, does anyone know how? Man i hope you can do that in the final version...
Sigh, looks like they've given it the old "smear the stretched pixels" treatment (If the screenshot is anything to go by). Did they at least reprogram the game to run in a native widescreen fov?
Just tried playing a few rounds, kinda wished Capcom did give it the HD remix. But overall still fun to play.
i cant find the xbox 360 arcade demo of mvc 2 on the market place, anyone know if it is out on the 360 yet?
Being one of the few that has never played MVC2, it SEEMS to be a pretty cool game, but some schmuck of infinite wisdom thought it was a good idea to release a demo sans the single player experience. Nice way to introduce the series to newcomers, Capcom. Very nice indeed.
Oh yeah this is great, only local multiplayer on the demo... what is up with Capcom and demos, didn't the same thing "happend" with SF 2 Turbo HD? :(
So now that EA lost the rights to marvel, can we get an MVC3 please? Featuring Dante and Viewtiful Joe, Jon Talbain??? maybe even some Powerstone, Rival Schools and more Star Gladiator Characters?? Maybe Blade? Bishop? Thor? Deadpool? Beta Ray Bill? Quciksilver? Luke Cage? Ghost Rider ???Give us something!!!!
I'd prefer a HD remix version. Played the demo. Umm who's idea was it to only have local two player in this? Seriously. Other then that its still fun. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 maybe?
*looks at the info and points out something* "options to play local or online multiplayer matches" If I can see it, then the others can see. So why where's the online muliplayer matches at in the demo? Cool. $14.99 *dancing around*
CAPCOM ARE ****IN A**ES! How could they put a demo out with ONLY LOCAL 2 PLAYER?! If you don't have a second controller don't bother downloading the demo from PSN
middle fingers up to all those greedy bastards selling it for hundreds of dollars on ebay :P now it aint worth jack! :D
This game is bigger than 150MB though... Will MS make an exception for it? If MS has to keep making exceptions, why not just drop the 150MB limit altogether?
ItsEvolution "Why no 360 demo?" Jeez, just let the PS3 owners enjoy SOME kind of interesting exclusive for once. ***************************************************** Don't really care which system the demo comes out on, as I own both the PS3 & the XBox 360. I also own the original full version on XBox and Dreamcast. So having the demo come out on the PS3 first isn't really a big deal. If this was a new IP likeDC Comic -vs- Capcom, then it would be a big deal. lol
Finally. i won't have to pay $80.00 for a used ps2 copy at Gamestop, plus this one will play online.Thank you Capcom, now if we could only get the arcade 4 player x-men game.....we can always dream.
it doesn't need any visual remake it still looks great 8 yrs later. Maybe some add on chars for Download. is anyone else wondering if were being punked? there's only one april fool's day this month right?
Henninger, guess it doesn't really matter which system you buy it for.. But PS3 will get the demo first so you might want to consider what else they might be getting.
Oh heck yea. I"m soooo getting this day one. Can't wait till demo on thuesday. psn: mknightstalkerx. I can now put away my dreamcast, when it does come out.
