Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance debuts Feb. 19

Konami action game hits North America first, Europe two days later; demo included with Zone of the Enders HD Collection.
[UPDATE] A Konami press release confirms that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be out February 19, 2013, in North America, with a European release slated for February 21. Original story follows below.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be on store shelves in Europe on February 21, 2013. Konami announced the news today through its Facebook page, adding that information regarding the game's North American release date is forthcoming.
Previously, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was slated to arrive sometime in early 2013. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 action game is in development at Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Mad World), and its story has changed places in the Metal Gear timeline.
Originally, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was intended to take place before the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, showing how the character of Raiden made his transformation into the cyborg ninja of the 2007 PlayStation 3 hit. However, when Platinum Games was attached to the project, the time frame was moved to several years after Metal Gear Solid 4, to a time when cyborgs are becoming more commonplace in the world.
While Metal Gear Solid: Rising was originally intended to showcase a mix of stealth and action gameplay, Revengeance drops the stealth aspect to focus exclusively on action. Konami also dropped the "Solid" from the title to distance itself from the particular brand of stealth action people associate with the Metal Gear Solid series.
Gamers won't need to wait until February 2013 to play Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, as a demo for the project is bundled with copies of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, which is due out sometime later this year.

well I think I'm gonna like the gameplay aspects of the game. The story and stuff that is usually defined by Hideo on the other hand... I don't know how much he is involved... I hope I'm not gonna miss him while playing this.
15 Like The reason most of us enjoy Metal Gear is because it's a super-high quality series, period. I don't typically care for stealth gameplay myself, but I LOVED MGS4 regardless because everything about it oozes triple-A quality...stealth or no stealth. As long as they maintain that same level of quality, I have no problem with Revengeance going the all-action route. This is Raiden afterall. If I'm Raiden, I want to be slicing sh!t up, not sneaking around. Now, if this was MGS5 and there was no stealth, I agree that would just be wrong. But this is a spinoff folks. You get to be a bad ass cyborg ninja, slicing up an army of victims. Are you really gonna complain?
@shantd yeah, unfortunately however it's visible that the graphics have been watered down, i really hope it will still have the long anime style cutscenes at least :(
1 Like Hilarious MG Demo included with the ZOE collection. That's funny because Zone of the Enders came with the MGS2 demo back in the day.
Still, ZOE2 was an amazing game, so the collection will be quite worth it alone. If I had to predict, I think ZOE vs. ZOE2 vs. MG Rising...ZOE2 will be the best game of that set, just a guess. I will enjoy all three though. :P
GameSpot is the only site that said anything about a PC version "O.o".. all other sites said nothing about a PC version.. GameSpot needs 2get it right... by the way i never heard anyone from Konami or PlatinumGames say it was going 2b on PC just PS3 and Xbox that's all they said..
and dammit i wanted 2say something about that along time ago. i just didn't want 2 look stupi* if it did go on PC.. LMAO but yeah GameSpot was the only site that said something about a PC version. i've been on alot of sites and read alot of articles once again they said nothing about a PC version..
@ImBack558855 Gamespot isn't the only one to list a pc version. Most major sites still do because the game was first announced for the 360, PS3, and pc and to this day, the pc version hasn't been officially cancelled.
??February is shaping up to be Christmas of 2012 part 2. So many great games is coming out on that month alone.
There is so many things that have caught my attention while playing Metal Gear games... these are things that give away what to expect on the next Metal Gear games... for example MGS4 i heard so many people saying that was going 2b the last MGS game.. "O.o".. but i'm being 100% real when i say this i already knew that MGS4 wasn't the last game because there's things that caught my attention while playing it that petty much gave it away.. just play MGS4 again and pay attention you will see it for yourself.. just keep an eye on Naomi... and believe me when i say this that bitc* isn't dead. lol and she's the reason why snake is going 2b still alive.. just not so sure if snake will stay alive because i do think snakes time is about done.

Metal Gear fans have always played the games because it was like a cinematic stealth experience. Made you feel like you were part of a movie or something. I'm sure they will still try to have a cinematic feel to it but they've completely removed the stealth element and have turned it into just an action game, which is not what the Metal Gear games have primarily been focused on.
Snake was also another big factor for why people played the games. He's one of the greatest characters created in gaming. If they released a holiday album of "Snake sings christmas songs", I'm sure people would buy it. I know a lot of people made a big stink when they made you play as Raiden in MGS2. Personally I didn't mind it, but that could be something that turns people away from this game.
Moral of the story: Don't say "but this is a game that all real metal gear fans will love" because this game is taking a big leap away from the Metal Gear series and trying to become it's own thing. Basically it only has the same characters, other then that it's a different game.
@Fenixx all that tipping you did wasn't necessary .. i know why fans play metal gear and why we all love it so much.. and i also know this game is a spin-off so yeah i know it's going 2b different from metal gear solid.. BUT the name of this game is metal gear nun the less.. so i just don't understand why anyone who calls themselves a real fan of metal gear would excuse the fact that this is a metal gear game.. get over it snake is old and getting older and he will eventually die off.. then what will become of metal gear after that has happened ?? my guess is Raiden will b the new head honcho.. whether you or anyone else likes it or not. Raiden is going 2b the main character after snake is gown.. metal gear will b around for another 25 years. whatever Mr. Kojima decides to do after this is all dune and out in the open i'm sure us real die-hard fans will love it. whether the name of the game has solid at the end of it or not.

This is one of those games that could either be great or god awful. Will wait to see the reviews before making a decision.
good news for Europe but what about the U.S.? Im not sure but i have a feeling this game is going to be the weakest link in the metal gear series
No mention of PC in the article...is the info on the left correct with regards to PC version?
This game makes me barf, pains me to see this as Metal gear solid series is one of my favorite series of all time. MGS 4 was so beautiful it literally made me cry towards the end.

I wish it worked the same way with Devil May Cry, hehe.
2 Like @Gamer_4_Fun Why do people keep thinking this is Metal Gear Solid?!?!? IT'S NOT!!!! It's just a spin-off! There is going to be a Metal Gear Solid 5, no need to worry about that, but this is just a spin-off! It's their game, it seems to me if they wanted to take it a different direction it's their right, it's not like it's going to make the previous games any less awesome. I didn't particularly like this idea either, but i'm not mad at them, and truth be told, i'll probably play it, too. And like it. And i'm sure some of you haters out there will, too. (Sorry, Gamer_4_Fun this wasn't directly pointed at you, I just wanted to get my point across:))
1 Like @Razer361 you must admit though, the previous plot they originally planned to have before platinum got involved sounds way more interesting and worth while to a metal gear fan, although i guess it will just pick up new ones now its distanced it self from the original metal gears which i guess is not that bad. I can't help feeling slight hatred for Platinum for dropping the origins plot that would have been so good to explore but the hatred that this game has conjured up is similar to that of DMC and it is all rather immature.
@JJB03 We don't know nothing of original plot aside from scraps. And honestly this hypes me far more, because original is pretty irrelevant, since MGS4 already covered Raiden's fate up to this point. MGS team is still writing, while Platinum makes only gameplay. Characters aren't changed so I don't have anything to complain about, unlike dmc.
@monster637 Allegedly, MGS5's story is going to be about the Boss. The story of how Raiden became a Cyborg will be in Metal Gear Rising: Inception
1 Like @Razer361 They probably decided when they gave it to platinum that they will save it for there mgs5 as part of the story and since plats the king of hack and slash , dmc, bayonetta ,keep it for them selves and let platinum tell there own tale as long as its fits into the world and approved
@JJB03 Yeah I definitely agree with you there, but remember that that story hasn't been abandoned, and will show up sometime in the future.
