Limited-edition $50 offering combines 2008 version of Hasbro strategy game with gameplay variations inspired by Konami's stealth-action series.
Konami's Metal Gear Solid series is no stranger to other games, having crossed over into franchises like Ape Escape and Super Smash Bros. However, the stealth action series isn't limited to digital tie-ins, as Konami has announced the first board game crossover for the series, Risk: Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition.
Based on the 2008 version of the board game, Risk: Metal Gear Solid will layer in elements from the games like black-market weapons, mercenary boss characters, and the submersible battleship Outer Haven, which allows for invasions to come from new directions. The game will also include 275 playing pieces customized to represent five rival private military companies and packaging with new art by Metal Gear Solid franchise art director Yoji Shinkawa.
The game is being produced by USAopoly, which makes versions of classic games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, Jenga, and more with popular licenses like Futurama, Star Trek, and various NFL, NCAA, MLB, and NHL teams. Preorders for the game will open up on USAopoly's official site October 3, with a $50 price tag attached.
I don't care if you slap Metal Gear's or Mega Man's or The Witcher's or even Strawberry Shortcake's brand on this one. The name on the Risk box is irrelevant and it makes no anyhoo this Joe right here, BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT & WHATEVER THE COST, KAMCHATKA IS MINE!!!
Gotta dig a board game mash-up of Risk and MG; they complement each other well. And I've always liked the art style of MGS...it should translate into a pleasing presentation for the gamers who follow the series. I'm curious to see how the game designers grafted the MSG material onto the framework of the Risk "game engine."
This is pretty darn cool. I am not sure if I want to go out and buy this or not, but I guess I have a few weeks to figure it out. I love risk and I am a fan of Metal Gear Solid.
I like game Risk. $50.00 is a nice price. But does anyone actually play board games these days? Nevertheless MGS Risk is "kinda" cool.
Only 2,014 Limited Edition versions will be available to the stealthiest gamers. Pre-ording is only open for 13 days. This is going to sell-out quick.
I actually used to like the game Risk, but it's been a long time since I've played it. This may be pretty interesting, although I don't know if I'd want to shell out $50 for it. That's almost a game. Who am I kidding, nowadays games end up costing $100 when it's all said and done, with DLC and all.:)
@Gelugon_baat If Hideo Kojima had a hand in designing this version of Risk, I wouldn't doubt it given his ability to think outside the proverbial "box". (No pun intended)
Risk is a great way to improve your strategy and critical thinking skills. Plus it has MGS! Man, I hope I get this soon.
....hopefully it is a BIG game like the classic full world map one Halo Risk was a big dissapointment
This seems very nice and interesting. Now Konami could you please release a trophy patch for MGS4? Please??
Fan-boy fodder. Risk is Risk, milking it like Monopoly does. But if they make it and they come, so be it. Game on brothers.
Somehow I still think this will be inferior to the original. I bought the Lord of the Rings Risk a few years ago, and while it added some neat features to the game, it prolonged an already lengthy game even further, and usually only served to alienate those who didn't have as much concentration.
