Metro: Last Light gets May release date

FPS was originally due to be coming out in March; publisher Deep Silver promises extra time will be spent improving game.

Apocalyptic first-person shooter sequel Metro: Last Light will be released in Europe on May 17, the game's new publisher, Deep Silver, has announced.

Metro: Last Light will see its United States release three days earlier on May 14. The game will be coming out on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

The game, a sequel to 2010's Metro 2033, was originally set to be released in March by now-defunct published THQ. Deep Silver acquired the rights to the game earlier this month for a reported $5.9 million.

Koch Media CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said developer 4A Games will use the extra time to make additional improvements to the game. "We won't leave that time unexploited and will work closely together with 4A Games to make the game even better. It will receive all the attention it deserves."

Does he mean this month or march of 2014. Please someone tell me, I've been waiting for this game since I beat the first one and read the book.

My one still lingering question, as I'm only a PC gamer on rare occassions with releases such as Last Light, would i also be able to use my 360 controller to play?

So relieved it didn't fall through the cracks during the thq sale and sooo stoked it wasn't pushed that far back. Plus, it gives me a little extra time to get a better graphics card. Played 2033 on 360 as i didn't have nearly a good enough rig at the time. Got the new PC last holiday so i should be good to go.

One of my favorite games ever.

Just hope that the game gets a PC "ultra version". Tired of games being ruined due to XBOX/PS limitations.

As a fan I'm just hoping for a revamping of the original, not a dumbing down for Console users.

@NorthWolfe well the last metro game was different then 360 version so I guess they will be targeting PC for this too, its one of the games thats PC 1st then ported to console

Eastern Europe is really starting to have a ton of powerhouse game developers with a focus on game quality, uniqueness, innovation and the consumers above all else (without any of the overpriced useless DLC). Western and Japanese developers should really take note...

Everyone with a decent PC should at least play the first game Metro 2033 before going for this, it was offered for free a while ago on steam so there you go :]

AH deep silver also published STALKER Clear Sky I think so this is perfectly fitting :] Now lets just hope STALKER 2 will make it as well and then we have some epic post apocalyptic FPS games once again to play :D

@Printul_Noptii

Isn't the new STALKER almost ready for launch?

I think I saw it somewhere, not sure where. It is going to be launched as a "free-to-play" game.

@NorthWolfe @Printul_Noptii   The Stalker MMO game, which was supposed to be called Survarium, is available to play now as open beta.  I tried it, it's pretty rough and not fully english, but totally playable.

I hope this one keeps that old feeling of Metro alive. There was just something about 2033 that I really enjoyed.

@Takeno456 yes it had a touch of STALKER and felt very dark and atmospheric definitely one of the more memorable and epic FPS campaigns I played in a long time, Crysis 1 and FEAR have also great single player campaigns :] and CoD4 and MW2 as well as far as I am concerned I really liked them.

Great to see that the mess of switching over from THQ hasn't delayed a great game too much.

@commando1992 its okay waiting till may is actually the best thing to do with so many great games to play like Crysis3, BioShock Infinite, Tomb Raider and and  and also am one of the few to actually looking forward to Resident Evil 6 PC :]

That's coming out a lot sooner than I was expected. Hopefully Deep Silver won't have enough time to screw it up.

Load of bull. This time surely won't be spent on polishing, it's too late, they have to start printing the discs in a month now. They have tons of logistical issues to solve after the publisher's changed.

Wow! Finally some good news on Gamespot. The first game was one of the best campaigns in the last 3yr imo. Metro 2033 had some of the heaviest, darkest, atmosphere of any game I've played. The whole system of having to use gas masks when ya went outside added a lot of tension and stress, and that game was pretty tough. This is coming from someone that not only loved dark souls but finished it. I highly reccomend people to support the new one by purchasing it. It's coming out in May so there probably won't be much competition for your money. These are the kind of great games we get when the developer doesn't waste resources by tacking on multiplayer.

@mattress805 loved the first game and looking forward for this on the PC as well also STALKER series comes close to Metro and even surpasses it in some details other than that Metro and STALKER both rock da PC house

You will see a huge difference between the PC version and current consoles. I am talking Skyrim MODDED difference. I wish they would have waited for next gen.

Printul_Noptii
Printul_Noptii

@TheOnlyConan yup the graphics of Metro 2033 are still heavy on some graphics cards and also if you are into PC gaming and modding check out STALKER Complete mode 2009, your brain = blown away XD its really that awesome

Knowing Deep Silver also had good relationship with Nintendo with Cursed Mountain and the Secret File series being their best games on Wii, this game may see the light of days on Wii U too if the demand for one is high. A prototype Wii U version of this game already exist, Deep Silver just had to finish it if ever the demand comes by unlike THQ who just ignores it.

padako

but ... but .. the wii u version? this game would really show off what the wii u could do with a real dx11 game and gamespot has wii u listed as one of the supported consoles...

Printul_Noptii

@padako they said its very hard for them to acomodate the game code to the Wii U CPU which is not a stellar one

@sid_zeitgeist13 @padako ya apparently the wii u version was cancelled a while ago ... I guess gamespiot just never updated their site. o well, I'm more than happy to play the PC version .. was just a little excited to see a game with actual next gen graphics on my wii u but whatever I guess.

Printul_Noptii
Printul_Noptii like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Gomtor nope nothing like Aliens, from the gameplay and trailers I can tell it will rock the boat, Aliens was rushed as hell and there was problems between Sega, Gearbox and TimeGate studios. There is no problem with the developer of Metro Last Light which is A4games the only thing that happend is that THQ the original publisher went off and so Deep Silver took over.
