Gamers who spend $30 in Microsoft points on XBLA games and add-ons during October will receive an extra $10 worth of points added to account.
October is typically a big month for gaming retail as the holiday season ramps up, but this year Microsoft is apparently determined to push its downloadable offerings as well. The Xbox 360 maker already announced that its Game Feast lineup of anticipated downloadable games would run throughout October, and today it followed that up with a new "thank you" promotion for Xbox Live customers during the month.
Microsoft has said that any Xbox Live users who spend 2,400 Microsoft points ($30) on downloadable add-ons or Xbox Live Arcade games during the month of October will be credited with 800 Microsoft points ($10) to thank them for their business. The process should be automatic, with eligible purchases having to be made between 12:01 Eastern time October 1 and 11:59 p.m. October 31.
Regardless of how much money is spent on the service, each user can receive the bonus only once, with the promotional points expected to be distributed around the end of November. The offer is available in every country Xbox Live operates, with the exceptions of Japan, Italy, and France.
This is not the first time Microsoft has rewarded customers with automatic points for their purchases. However, previous promotions were typically tied to events like the Summer of Arcade, with only a handful of select game purchases counting toward the free-points criteria.

hmmm, well all i would say i want from the marketplace system is the 400msp price to come back... whatever happened to that? Everything i have wanted to buy recently has been 560msp+ and arcade games are all pretty much 800 - 1600 points now... and i hate the fact with 560 points, you're always left with a ridiculous amount of points which you can't purchase anything with unless you buy more points...
Not a bad deal if there are two or three titles you've been meaning to pick up on XBLA. Might finally grab Limbo and Shadow Complex.
No, thanks, I ll keep my money for more fun games. that I actually own the dvd for it, instead of air connected to an account can lose it anytime if banned for no reason. I don't violate the rules, but who knows, my cat could use my account , or hacker , or Bill Gates' imaginary friends could and I lose my money.
Laughable that Sony fanboys troll this story. Get back to me when PSN offers similar deals and gives you free wallet money. This isn't the first time LIVE offers these cool promotions and it won't be the last. They've done it at least a few times already.
already bought hydrophobia, and am gonna buy comic jumper, so that'll put me over the top. plus the free 800 points from buying another year on the marketplace and once i buy all the games from the games feast this month, i should have a hefty amount of free money =D

A better deal would be for every $50 you spend on DLC, you get a years subscription for XBL for free. All they would need to do is run this for a week and I'd be happen. lol!!
I just bought Hydrophobia. I'll buy Comic Jumper on Wednesday. That should put me at 2400 points spent. Plus I still need to buy the new Borderlands DLC, Deathspank ToV, Shank, RDR Undead DLC, all the Mass Effect 2 DLC, etc etc etc.....

Reason why people use Xbox live more then PSN is because live been around for 2 generations. The PSN is BRAND NEW! Sony never had a service like this before so its a learning curve for them. Go back to when the PS3 was first released and you will see how much the PSN has evolved since then. A lot of people are used to paying for live because some have been doing it since the original Xbox. A lot of people need to be reasonable and logical when it comes to this debate and leave all the fanboy and bias opinions outside of the door.
I haven't noticed this on the dashboard yet but there is an offer for 2 years of xbl with a 1600 point 'gift.'
If any company can offer a free online service it is Microsoft. They force feed us advertisements, this I wouldn't care about if it was free, but Sony brings a free online service with no advertisements and a paid option which feeds you free games... Microsoft, Xbox Live as a paid platform, its days are numbered.
Or I could continue buying PSN items, not pay a yearly internet usage fee for something I all ready pay Comcast for and have no reason to pay Microsoft to use my own internet which saves me more than a measly $10 in Microsoft points. Gee, I'll go with that plan...... :-|

@Fanamdara Regardless of that they should still include other payment methods and I'm sure the majority of the gaming community will agree with me. I don't agree with paying online and if I have to then there should be different payment methods for certain features I'm using. After all Microsoft loves bragging about the features it has over the PS3 so yea its more then just servers.
I've got a better idea... Why don't they just decrease the cost of MS points permanently, thus increasing the interest and support of their fan base?
@Colonel-Snake Just think of it as your paying for the servers to play your games on, the interface. Everything else your mentioning just comes extra. And if your paying full price for XBL you need to start looking around. I have never spent more than 40 dollars for 1 year of live, and there was actually a offer on the dashboard not to long ago I accepted, 29.99 for 1 year of XBL that will come into effect november for me. @VXXXJesterXXXV What you said is soo true, can't believe so many people complaining about basically a buy 2 (or3) get 1 free deal. They don't have to do that, if you buy stuff from XBL you get more bang for your buck. If you don't than it doesn't effect you, no point arguing about it.
This part of it sucks. Why can't I get the bonus more then once? Why do I have to wait all the way to November to the bonus points? That's lame. It should be instant. In any case, i do want to get Hydraphobia and Plants -vs- Zombies.I still want HydroThunder: Hurricane and Lara Croft too. I wish the bonus could be done more then once though.

@keech I believe in paying for things I would use not pay for other nonsense I have no interest in using. They wanna charge online fine go do that but don't use a PR stunt excuse and say how they believe all those features is worth the 60 dollars per year. I should be able to pay for things I use not stuff added on just to Nickel and dime me. I guarantee you if they charge per feature it would cost less then what they are already asking for right now. They just wanna Nickel and Dime people for features they don't use just to be greedy and I don't respect that. @mjc0961 There are worse games on XBLA like that Hydrophobia that just came out. Plant's vs Zombies isn't even a full on Tower Defense game, it seems to be trying something different because most of the TD games I've played all had you building your defenses on the outside of the walkway and not on it. I just think the game has some charm to it not that it's going to win GOTY or anything.
@Milhouse09 All DLC, but that might not include downloadable avatar clothing and themes. But stuff like map packs and characters count as add ons to the original game.

they need to lower of the price of hard drives. i have no room on my 20 gig 360 to buy anymore arcade games. so now im just waiting till i get a new 250 gig slim 360. but if they sold at least 60 gig hds for 30 to 45 bucks i would buy it for my 60 gig now. but ms is to greedy to do that. so they lose out on me going to buy points cards.

@Chuck166. Gamestops has a new program that allows you to purchase PSN & Live points. You get like 10pts for every dollar you spend on games & 20 pts for used games (something like that). I'm not 100% sure how much points you need to trade it in for Live points, but if you buy games at Gamestop, you'd get it in no time.
They should do this all the time. They should do some type of rewards system like on some credit cards. Such as, you spend 3000msp, you get 1000 msp at the end of the month. 6000msp,then u get 2000 at the end. Something like that would be sweet.
