Microsoft sending XBL veterans custom console

Company sending specially designed Xbox 360 systems to those who have been Xbox Live subscribers the longest.
Longtime Xbox Live subscribers may want to be on the lookout for a delivery from Microsoft. The company has announced that it is sending custom Xbox 360 consoles (below right) to those who have "been with [Microsoft] the longest."
It is not clear what exact qualifications a gamer must meet to be rewarded with a console. However, a document posted to All Games Beta suggests Microsoft is sending the 250GB systems--as well as a voucher for an additional year of Xbox Live--to those who have been Xbox Live subscribers since the service launched 10 years ago.
Xbox Live has grown significantly since its debut in 2002. The platform currently boasts 40 million members, with Xbox Live Gold users logging an average of 84 hours on the service per month. Additionally, games are only one part of the service.
Microsoft announced in March that gamers in the United States spend more time with Xbox Live entertainment applications like Netflix and ESPN than they do playing multiplayer games.

Oh well. I've had a console since launch day, but was stuck without net access for the first few years, so I was late to the live party.
what about meeeeeeeeee my damn xbox360 60gb console was bought brand new in christmas december 2008 got the e71 error in 2009 then started working again, 2011 got the e68 error... can I get a compensation :)
this is still bull shit...they should be compensating for all the people who's system(s) shit the bed...regardless whether they lasted less than 6 months or 3 years....I've got an old PS2, 2 N64's, a Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, and a Wii I bought over a year ago....and they all still work like new....I am never owning a Microsoft console again unless they give it to me for free and buy all my games for it...or if they put a chip in my brain...
1 Like @Dragon_Nexus @DoomglooM I did get a "free" repair...twice...once for the first crap system then it fucked up again so I got newer system, that fucked up...yayyy another FREEE repair!....and it fucked up after I got it back...even ruining some of my 360 games......shame I didn't get any free repairs with the other systems....oh wait I didn't and still don't need em...you blasphemous fool

2 Like It's bull. I'm a 10 year veteran and I got a stupid 10yr avatar helmet and wreckateer for free. The console is a drawing that everyone can take part in and xbl rewards members get 2 entries. This whole article is bs. Cause I'd easily be getting a console otherwise.
@Vodoo Same thing happened to me. I got that 10 year helmet too, and then found out the custom consoles were to be won in a contest and they're only giving away 5 I think.
Wish I had had signed up a few weeks prior to when i actually did. I'd actually be getting one as well. With school at the time I actually waited until Christmas break to actually get a Live Starter kit. I've been with the service since and migrated my account to the 360. Worth every penny IMO.
I really wish MS would have made better plans and release an Arcade title of the first MechAssault as part of the 10 Year celebration.

not sure but I think I read on ign that they are only selecting people who have been subscribed for at least 10 years? so that would equal to 600 worth of xbox live fees..wow ms sure is generous

@ABEzilla116 no..most company's don't charge to be able to play games online..anything after the original xbox in age that charges to play games online is a slap in a face. There is absolutely no excuse to charge people extra. Almost as crazy as microsoft charging people for windows

Oh well, my subscription during the origional xbox was rocky at best... on for 6 months, off for six, back on for six and so on. Also I waited about a year for the 360.
2 Like I've been with Xbox live since it's launch, but I'm putting all my cards on the table and betting this is pretty much bullshit. I'm not gonna get my hopes up and worry about it. The day and hour I get something FREE from Microsoft, especially a console worth 300+, is the day pigs start flying out of my ass. Nice little gimmick though. Just hope no one who's been around long falls for it. Lol.

I've had XBL since before I used plastic, and I created a new account with each of those "X month" passes I'd purchase at the story. So despite me having an account on XBL since before even the release of Halo 2 (I'd wager 10 years overall), I probably only show up with my current account since 2004/2005, so I won't be getting one for unfortunate reasons, despite likely being applicable for one.
Oh well, good PR move anyway.
@kidnatural Similar story for me. When I switched from Xbox (original) to Xbox 360 I could not recover my original GT, because the email attached didn't exist anymore and the credit card attached didn't exist anymore, and those were the only two options the CSR gave me for account recovery.
So, I had to made a new account. By doing so it looks like I've only been an Xbox Live member since 2007, even though it was actually many years earlier.

And I also have 2 accounts activated, have had them for years, one for me and one for the family when they want to play coop on the other Xbox.

Netflix should be free.

@cellbuster @Sevenizz @BestJinjo Microsoft is already (intentionally) losing money on a lot of Xbox-related items. It doesn't care because they benefit other parts of the company and expand the brand. However, it just can't go that far and give good feature-packed online service for free. The company incurs more costs on Live than Sony and Nintendo with their respective services, obviously, so that would hurt.
@CDWJUSTIN This is either BS from a Sony fan-boy or you are the one of the worst things to happen to consoles.

Plus some a legal threat to be sued by Microsoft after a points transaction turned sour ive had my share of problems and thats the tip of the ice burg
