Xbox 360 and iOS versions of indie hit discussed during opening presentation of Mojang-devoted Las Vegas convention.
Long after becoming a breakout indie phenomenon, Mojang's PC game Minecraft officially launched during the opening keynote address at the MineCon convention in Las Vegas on Friday. The ceremonial flipping of the switch by Markus "Notch" Persson kicked off a two-day celebration centered around the developer's latest efforts, with looks at the publisher's upcoming Scrolls and Cobalt.
In addition to the official launch of Minecraft on PC--the game had been in beta to this point--the keynote also hosted an additional look at the upcoming Minecraft for Xbox Live Arcade, and the announcement that Minecraft had arrived on iOS.
Daniel Kaplan of Mojang confirmed that the game had been intended to launch during the keynote address, but logistical problems necessitated it be launched quietly on iOS the day before. Despite the lack of any marketing push for the Thursday release, it had already become the No. 1 paid app in all iTunes stores worldwide by Friday afternoon.

It looks realllly nice on xbox. notch would make loads of money of that. anyway why dont they put it also on ps3 or something? anyone working on a port for it?
i would like to see this on xbox and hope it succeeds. the only way to grantee that though is to put free dlc and mods or at low prices like 10-18 ms points for a pack or else its just vastly better on pc.
I will admit as a PS3 owner I am kicking myself alittle xD But at the same time it's ok. My creativity is used heavily in Little Big Planet 2, 360 needs a game like this. You guys & girls have fun with this :) Create awesome stuff.
I want to hear a release date. They mentioned it at E3, yet there has been no information, I take that back, it was scheduled to come out on 11/11/11.
People who don't understand the brilliance in Minecraft are people who's either without creativity or have lost it and can't find it for now. Minecraft is about creating, wether that would be buildings or an adventure for yourself. It's like playing with legos (the blocks) or a figure (your minecraft man). It's without limits and that's why the game is amazing, it is what YOU decide for it to be. Yeah the graphics aren't realistic, but again: use your imagination, then you'll find it to be one of the best games you've ever tried :)
Just one more block. Just one more block. Just one more block. Years from now a dusty skeleton will be found before a derelict and ancient computer. DNA testing will prove the skeleton is mine, and and scans via futuristically advanced technology will reveal that the computer and I died together playing Minecraft. Just one more block. Just one more block.........
[1:53] The clip ends saying that Minecraft would go on to be the best-selling PC game of all time. -Stunning.
Okay, now that the games is officially out, you guys need to do a review! I, however, do not envy the reviewer.
My son's love this game. They say it is addictive. I haven't really given it a try, but maybe I will once it comes to the 360.
Yeahh, the iOS app is some garbage. But I'll have to check Minecraft out again. Haven't logged on since the last update.
