Molyneux 'reinventing' Populous

This does sound pretty cool, i always wanted a new black and white.

I'd prefer he'd modernize Powermonger, but maybe that's a bit too simple these days with all these modern RTS'.  still...I'd like to play a more modern version of one of my preteen faves.

well, he isnt on the rich list, so I guess he does not have the bank balance to self finance. The big trouble with this guy and it has always been his trouble; he never ever listens to fan feedback. He is not a listener, he is a preacher. He will spout self belief down the public's throats at any opportunity. Comparing fable 2 with Oblivion, anyone could see his dreams had no substance to them at all. Fable was an exercise in being trapped in invisible corridors with frequently reloaded set pieces. Then we had that virtual boy thing he made for Kinect. Anyone could see if that was released the virtual kid would be harassed and tortured and the results plastered all over youtube.

I recon Molyneux could restore his reputation, but it would take creating something as amazing as Minecraft.

I thought he wasn't making anymore games after this latest one? That changed quickly. He could just re-release Populous 3 the beginning in glorious HD and I would be so very happy.

The problem with Molyneux is that when he wants to innovate, he focuses so hard in the innovation part that he makes gameplay-compromising mistakes that some people would have noticed immediatly.

Yeah, the title of the video seems biased as hell but he makes good points, such as the problem with the Sactuary.

I think Molyneux is a good game designer... but he makes some wierd decisions sometimes.

Molyneaux was a legend back when there was a certain balance between him and his development crew. It seems he has too much creative control - similar to how George Lucas got too much creative control. Both of these guys produce decent stuff, but their recent work is bland.

...I hope that this game isn't an answer to my statements about going retro in favor of games more simplistic and anti-M, because I never said I would toss myself into the realm of boredom...

Molyneaux has flapped his gums prior to each game release, and fallen just short of the mark each time.  His problem is that he's a good game developer who thinks he's a great game developer.

Again, I will reiterate...his games are good, and worth playing.  But none of them ever struck as innovative and as ground breaking as Molyneaux made them out to be.

It's not so much 'bandwagon hatred,' it's the simple fact that Peter 'talks' about innovation, but in reality it's really talk. When we got Fable, we were expecting a next-gen Morrowind. I remember how much he talked about how OPEN WORLD the game will be, and in reality...it wasn't. It was a good game, but I still felt deceived. It only continued with Fable 2, then Fable 3....yeah. That's ultimately why gamers are reluctant to fund his Kickstarter campaign. We just don't think he will deliver because his bark doesn't equal out with his bite.

I hated Fable 3 as much as anyone, but the Molyneux hatred here just reeks of band-wagon hopping.  Molyneux, EA, and Apple.  You can always count on the trolls crawling out of their dark little holes when any of the three are in a headline.

All have problems, but none are anywhere close to being half as bad as the hater wannabes make them out to be.

You don't have to bloody reinvent the fucking genre every time you make a game,  especially when you try to do so and fail miserably turning a great franchise (Fable) into a mediocre one (fable 3) 

This guys only really talent is being able to push false promises. He is the equal of an awesome game trailer for a poor game.

I bet you can hold hands in it. My god how innovative and amazing would that be?

Will there be a dog... that we can't control? and a magic system that is dumbed down after two generations of releases?

Why doesn't he take some of his OWN money to create the game if it's such a good idea.  For once, I have to say that this is a game on Kickstarter I WILL NOT be promoting, simply because of who is requesting the money.  Peter has made lofty promises and underwhelming games for over a decade now.

I'll go so far as to say that I like PM. However, the first thing I thought when I saw the budget proposal and the Kickstarter thing is, "Who thought it would be a good idea for him to make promises on BUDGETING!?" He has great visions but he's not always realistic about what can be accomplished under certain constraints.

A.) Populous was great because of Bullfrog. Bullfrog is dead.

B.) Peter Molyneux shouldn't be given a chance to pump out any more crap.

C.) Populous stands as one of the greatest game series ever created. If anyone is going to mess with that, it shouldn't be Peter.

His games got worse after Microsoft bought Lionhead. Microsoft probably didn't give enough time to finish those games. I think that is the problem but I could be wrong.

Kickstarter suits this guy as he knows how to waffle.  I can just imagine him waffling on the video kickstarter page for about 2 hours about nothing, blowing air into the wind.  For me, he hasn't done anything worthy since his bullfrog days and I don't think he ever will again.

I wish him all the best, god games are certainly his greatest strength. It must be difficult for him to ignore the mooing of those with imagined grievances in this day and age.

Reinventing Populous? GREAT idea. Giving money to Molyneux? BAD idea. Thing is, he's done some great work. But he's been shit since Black & White. So many empty promises. His ego is writing checks his dev team can't cash.

Just make a new dungeon keeper! Then I will give you my money!

Since Peter Molyneux left Lionhead Studios all I can associate this man with is empty promises and disappointing releases, so he's not getting any money from me in advance until he eventually proves me wrong and manages a feature complete quality release.

I don't see why people would be blindly supporting this man, I mean he sure has nice ideas and all, but always fails to deliver.

Just some examples :

Fable, pre release - "we allow players to exploreee theee whouuuleee wouuurld", post release - invisible wall here, there, everywhere)

Project Milo, pre release - "we will be selling hundreds of millions of copies of this aaamaaaziiing game" - project gets canned

Not to mention the crazyness of the planned social experiments ("Curiosity" being first of 22 planned)

Populous, Syndicate, GeneWars, Dungeon Keeper, Black and White, The Movies were all games I enjoyed and would like a sequel being made, but with the current impression he gives I don't think they'll be sequels I'd want or enjoy.

Perhaps he proves us wrong, we won't know until after release, where we can still judge if it's worth to us paying full price, after the reviews are out.

NO.  Do NOT give him money.  Do NOT fall for his schtick again.  "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

Molyneux is disliked for bad reasons.  Over-hyping games that are good as being perfect is not really a reason to dislike someone.  Everyone does that with their games.  I enjoyed Black and White, Fable 1, and The Movies immensely.  And I'd be lying if I said BW2, and Fable 2 were games I disliked...I liked them a lot, just not as much as I'd hoped.

Never played Populous but it invented a genre that hasn't been done that much, surprisingly.  I hope it works out.  Black and White remains one of my favorite games of all time to this day, and I hope he can do something I enjoy as much with Godus.
