The next entry in the long-running action RPG series will be 3DS exclusive; the game will have greater emphasis on platforming and monster climbing.
As part of its Japanese Summer Jam event, Capcom has announced that a new Monster Hunter game is in the works. According to a recent teaser, Monster Hunter 4 will be released exclusively for the 3DS in spring 2013 in Japan.
The sequel will take place in an as-yet-unnamed open world, where players will need to defeat large monsters and craft weapons. Unlike previous games in the series, Monster Hunter 4 appears to put a greater emphasis on platforming, with walls and cliffs now more easily scaled by players. Hunters have also been given the ability to grab any part of a giant monster and slash at them. Monsters introduced in previous games, including the wyverns, rathalos, and tigrex, will make return appearances.
The most recent Monster Hunter title from Capcom was Monster Hunter 3 G for the 3DS. The game was launched on December 10 last year and featured downloadable event quests and 3DS StreetPass functionality, as well as a target camera feature that centres the player's perspective on nearby large monsters.

Lets face this right now, the 3DS and the Wii U are more or less a childs console, granted I want a Wii U and I'm sure a lot of adults have one and play adult games but they are more or less a kid console and yet the only console since the PS2 that they have released a MH on over here is the Wii. People that play this do not play on those consoles. Capcom is full of idiots I guess. Ever heard of the 360 or PS3? Obviously since there is the MH Frontier game in the works for Japan. Jesus get it together put some of the MH PSP games out on PS3 and Xbox as downloadable games, make some money.
Another Monster Hunter wasted on a system no one likes and i dont have. Thiers a game system called the Xbox 360. Ever heard of it Capcom? Or is Dragons Dogma your pathetic Excuse for a Console Monster Hunter? Oh I know! WHY DONT YOU BRING FRONTIER TO THE STATES?! But Wait! It's Capcom! THEY FREAKING SUCK! I hate them and i personally hope Monster Hunter 4 sucks ass. Im done with this stupid series.
Man I loved the wii Version and the psp haven't played any MH games on the 3ds yet cause they want import sucks I'm geussing there not porting anymore even the 3rd game for ps3 didn't make it here.Kinda sucks.
Capcom will only release mh again in the us when they have successfully put together a game which will charge a player for every quest. It will all be in the game day one but they will sell them each as "dlc." you want to fight the rathalos? it can be yours for $5.00. Capcom is being run by the yakuza.
I f***ing hate Capcom. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has been out since 2010 in Japan and not a word from them has been spoken about the English release to date. They hardly gave series a chance to grow in the western market. They won't develop on the PS3 and Vita because they are afraid it won't make enough money for them as the Wii and 3DS would. Chances are they aren't ever going to release a NA version of this or portable 3rd, ever.
when will the Japanese learn that releasing these games readily into the UK/Europe/America`s will be a good move! i play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on my PSP still and the game is STILL amazing!
more people buying your games = more money for developers...
Terrible news for MH gamers, I have a 3DS and I would rather see the 4th main game on ALL the consoles, handhelds and PC with full online gaming, as would any true Monster Hunter gamer. And add a G mode from the get go too. Not very keen on cuddling on to monsters for cheap skill-free hits either...
They have a monster hunter game online for a console and computer its frontier of course though they probably will not port it sucks Capcom is lame when it come's to certain games.
Only advantage I can see in this is for PC gamers, as the 3DS should be the next console to be emulated and running in real time in any average gaming PC.
As for Sony console owners... we're getting used by now to be mistreated by companies (Sony included), so I see this as no surprise specially after what happened to western users with MH Portable 3rd or FF type 0 (which there is still hope for Vita users, but PSP users like me got the bitter taste of being left without).
I'm definatly not going to buy any more consoles and stay with PC for now on.
Honestly MH series is pretty addicting. Im 100% sure the west will freaking adopt it.
Its just sooooo pathetic how Capcom doesnt realize if they put it on next get Ps3/360 and have online gaming on PSN/.XBL that they will finally break into the western market.
Not sure if they just want to keep doing JPN only with limited US/EU release. Man up do a next gen stop being dumb and cheap
WHY NOT PS3?!?!?!?! what a mistake putting it exclusively on 3DS, I guess both of those people will enjoy it... handheld gaming sucks! PS3 or Xbox or PC is the only financially smart options nowadays
aww im still waiting for portable 3rd to come over here. I know most people already played that game since they probably ported or something. The vita is here so we should be able to get it now or at least on the ps3..... :(
they're probably just waiting to finish their DLC, for the American/Europe versions, then release the game with the message "if you want to kill the last dragon, you must un-lock the Dragonfire Shield via $30 dollar DLC, have a nice day"thanks for killing off the last franchise I actually still had hopes of you doing well with. i bought a wii just to play tri, and the graphics were the same as my old ps2 one and psp... lazy ass devs.
I also bought a wii just to play tri. I played it relelntlessly for over a year and a half. It literally was the only game I owned on wii. I sold my wii once I got bored of MHtri though, there was no other reason to own a wii.
Cap com is making a stupid decision making it 3DS exclusive. They should also make it for PSVITA but have exclusive things on the different handhelds. I was thinking, maybe a different flagship monster on each.
So... I should have never bought Vita.I am hype on reading that it will take a gameplay element from Dragon's Dogma but upon hearing 3DS exclusive? Meh. Maybe I should buy 3DS but I want to buy a 3DS with two analog sticks.
@WllDan7@Arkinhas Monster Hunter Tri (3) was on Wii, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was on PSP and it's HD "Remaster" was on PS3. Just for the clarification... Arkinhas I believe was referring to Tri. I too think they should have worked harder with Sony to get MHP3rd and the HD version stateside to build goodwill.
Hard to get behind Capcom anymore with the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3, no Monster Hunter for Sony platforms since latest releases, and no localization of MH3G (3DS). Ah well...
@zipperflipper Well technically you can still play monster hunter frontier, theres even rooms full of english speaking players to hunt with, still have to pay monthly though

can someone please explain to me why capcom is staying away from the consoles when it comes to their MH franchise? is the console market really that bad for MH? is it because of complicated development? i know they found their second wind in the MH franchise when they went portable but they struck gold in the wii version right? see, im a fan of MH on the portable devices but theyre not really suited for prolonged gaming. not like your console. if anyone knows why this has become the marketing strat for MH, please enlighten me.
@Mayleene Not "hurtin'". More angry at Capcom for screwing over its fan base time after time after time. Considering they had a fan base of epic proportions before they decided to try the Wii and 3DS. Essentially, imagine if whatever company makes all of your Zelda games suddenly, and without explanation, started exclusively making Zelda games for the Vita/PS3. Now imagine that happening, and the games don't really even sell that great because the old fanbase didn't switch platforms with the game. You don't start "hurtin'" for a Vita/PS3, you just get mad that the game moved platforms. I really used to love Capcom. But they are notorious for destroying every good thing they make. They ruined Resident Evil. Megaman? Have fun waiting for another Megaman. And, of course, Monster Hunter.
well time to play the waiting game folks, you know this would sell good in the NA just look at MH3 and all the psp games, come on don't you want our money?
I don't see the problem, there are many third party exclusive games, and Capcom is likely going to which ever company has a bigger base to launch to and whichever is going to give them a bit more for the exclusivity.
@kargion In Japan most gamers are handheld gamers meaning more games for Handheld. Monster Hunter 4 was in development since 2010 when 3DS dev kits were given out. Vita was even fully revealed nor the dev kits nor did Vita even sell good enough to live up to it's hype.
