Microsoft updates backward-compatibility list with more than 60 games, 300-game milestone surpassed.
Amid the hubbub surrounding the upcoming games being shown at this week's E3 Media and Business Summit, Microsoft is also catering to nostalgic gamers looking for more from their last-generation collections. The publisher updated its backward-compatibility list with more than 60 games, bringing the total list above the 300 mark.
While many games added are of less-than-stellar quality, Microsoft's back-playable catalog did receive a few worthwhile additions. A few highlights from the list include The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Mech Assault II, and Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast. The update also includes two from a series that has prominently been absent from prior updates, Project Gotham Racing and Project Gotham Racing 2.
See below for a complete list of newly added backward-compatible games. A full list of games is available on the Xbox's Web site.

YAY! lol I got Morrowind GOTY when I bought my 360 and I didnt know at the time that it was not BC.....now I can actually play it!!!!! *runs to room with excitement!* mb I can go get Doom 3: ROE later this week.
i think its obvious no matter how many new titles they add someone will feel left out with their favourite game. i know theirs a new burnout revenge but i dont want to pay 40 euros just to play it in hd. im still waiting for its bc update but most likely it aint gon happen. nice to see their still workin at it tho
I wish they would make Phantasy Star Online Backwards Compatible and Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butchers Bay.
Mercenaries? Riddick? Some of the best games still aren't there. I'd easily buy Mercenaries again just to play it some more.
Alright! Guilty Gear XX#Reload! Finally! I even wrote to Microsoft asking them to get it to run. Totally awesome! Oh and BadMunky, I agree. They need to show some Metal Gear love.
Still no NFL 2K5? They just can't get that thing to run right it seems. All Pro Football tomorrow so I think I may finally not care.
Nice to see them updating the backwards compatability of the next-gen consoles. So often it is something that is overlooked...
Ahhh the compatability update... gotta love it. some gems (Morrowind, Marvel vs. Capcom 2), mixed with decent ones (Bloodrayne 2, Evil Dead), and a whole lotta crap! (Marvel Nemesis, DaVinci Code) and life goes on as it should... sunrise, sunset.
And still the eggheads haven't patched Republic Commando. AND they haven't bothered to properly patch Soul Calibur 2 so that it actually lets you start a battle.
FINALLY! I can finally play MORROWIND! DAMN YOU Oblivion! You could have been more longer... and yet more time consuming!
The rest of you may not agree with me but it kinda sucks that The Warriors wasn't on that list. I love that game
The only game that I'm happy to see compatible on that list is GGX2 #reload. Cool! And it's nice that they updated JSRF as well.
Most the games people are mentioning (battlefield 2 for example) will never be BC, because they already re-made it on the 360
2 years in and 300+ of 800+ games are BC? Will Microsoft ever finish before the end of the 360's life cycle?
Still no Rallisport challenge 2... And do you know why? Because it's still more fun to play than any "next gen racer" and looks almost as good. Why buy Forza, Dirt, PGR, NfS or any of the rest if it was avalible?
A ton of EA games? It sure is. Even though EA is one of the biggest publishers of games in the industry, they're also the maker of the most mediocre titles in the industry. Let them take a back seat and release backwards compatibility updates for games made by other studios!
NO NFL ESPN 2k5 --- I wish Gamespot would get some balls and point-blank ask Microsoft about the suspicious ... no, wait.. it's more than suspicious -- the downright conclusive evidence that Microsoft is pandering to EA, the biggest wuss in the industry. Any thoughts, gamers? Personally, I think it's sickening. Everyone knows 2k5 was the best football game for not only 2k5 but for 2006 and maybe even 2007...
GUILTY GEAR!? MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2!!! Thank You MICROSOFT!!! Thank sweet Jesus I didn't want to play the Dreamcast Marvel vs. Capcom.
"Why won't they just add ALL the games to an update for once instead of doing it a few at a time? And WHY can't I play The Warriors yet!?" You obviously dont understand how emulation works. If only it were that easy. Which is exactly the reason why I hate using emulation to do BC.
Why won't they just add ALL the games to an update for once instead of doing it a few at a time? And WHY can't I play The Warriors yet!?
I'm glad to see Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on there....too bad it runs slow and the characters are distorted when you're fighting.
