Namco Bandai announces new Shonen Jump fighting game

Title to feature characters from manga series One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and Toriko; out next year for PS3 and PS Vita.
Namco Bandai will be heading back into the manga crossover fighting arena, the company's first foray since Battle Stadium D.O.N for the PS2 and GameCube.
According to a recent reveal from Japanese magazine Famitsu, the publisher's upcoming foray is called Project Versus J. The title is a team-based fighting game where players can pick characters from Shonen Jump manga properties. So far, Luffy from One Piece, Goku from Dragon Ball Z, and Toriko from Toriko are confirmed selectable characters.
The game is slated for a 2013 release on both the PS3 and PS Vita. The last game that featured a huge cast of Shonen Jump manga characters was Jump Ultimate Star for the DS. Check out GameSpot for more information on that past title.

something tells me this would be the only good DBZ game for ps3 which is fucking sad... i mean.. a good DBZ game that's not actually a DBZ game? look at that screenshot and tell me that wasn't a great character models? look at goku sooo badass!
1 Like This is not a DBZ game. It just a new Shonen Jump fighting game. It even say it in the title. Any DBZ game that have Z-warriors, and follow the stroy is a DBZ game bad game or good game. But you do have to admit that screen of Goku shot is pretty good.

He said it would be the best DBZ game despite it NOT BEING A DBZ GAME. Saying that all the DBZ games are so bad that one that only features Goku as a cast member looks to better all the DBZ games available, essentially being the best DBZ game ("despite it not being an actual DBZ game")

It the way he wrote that made me said that it wasn't a DBZ game in anyway just a shonen jump fighting game. But Im sure I did read it correctly.
Ok if it not coming here in North Amerrica then I just watch the walkthrough in Youtube. But I wish they would have at least english subtitle because it only for Japan only and it be cool for people to understand since it only have japanese language. But If not then I just watch the action.
they need to bring in characters from old Jump manga I want a roster biger than Jump Ultra Stars!!

1 Like Jump Ultimate Star for the DS was AMAZING! One of the most under rated fighting'anime games EVER. Considering that there aren't even that many to begin with. Basically, that game was like Super Smash Bros but with Anime Characters...'nough said.
Anyway, I hope this new game is like that one! Though I hope there's a lot of different anime series. The last one had Bleach, Death Note, Naruto, Dragonball Z, One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Dr. Slump, Eyeshield 21, Gintama, Fist of the North Star, Ultimate Muscle, Slam Dunk, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Yu-gi-Oh, Captain Tsubasa, Black Cat, and many more!
It seems like I'm so excited, though my hopes are low. Jump Ultimate Star was never localized (I used an emulator though and it was awesome), so who knows if this will be.
@Kenshin0011 Jump Ultimate Stars definitely was a great game. I remember buying it for 50$ online and using the guide to discern the japanese. Great, great game on the DS that rivaled Super Smash Bros.
The only thing that ruined it eventually was the hackers. Hopefully making a good game on the PS3 will eliminate this (updates,etc).
1 Like Could this actually make me want to play Dragon Ball/anime games again? Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I hope they have Yusuke, Hiei, and Toguro in there. Maybe some Sensui and Demon Yusuke?? I'm also hoping for some cool Naruto characters too.
If its anything like Battle Stadium then we might get a stateside release, which is excellent.

Sounds like it could be a really cool game. Who doesn't want to see Ichigo fight Naruto.
5 Like I say put all of the popular mangas in here like rurouni kenshin, reborn, bleach, obviously naruto, and even yu yu hakusho, hell even hunter x hunter. I think that would be cool.
hey its just a thought and second whats the difference if they are in JUS they are shonen jump anyway and toriko is said to be in it if you read it
@Battousai_TH Those series were in JUS, including Death Note, Yu Gi Oh, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Toriko, etc. Here's hoping they add some of the new Jump like Kuroko No Basuke.
@00LiteYear FIne... I always miss out on the Jump games because they're only ever released for systems I do not own :(
Black Rock Shooter, Death from Soul Eater, Lucy from Elfen Lied, Ryuk From Death Note and maybe Crow from Deadman Wonderland
... those characters would make an insta-buy for me. Hoping it's not Japan only :D
@Swithers147 Remember its a Jump, Weekly Shonen Jump game, so no Soul Eater, no Elfen Lied, Black Rock Shooter or Deadman Wonderland, Death is possible since it was on WSJ.
But it may be like Battle Stadium D.O.N and has only a few characters and series, or like Jump Heroes from DS.
@Swithers147 And its most likely Japan only due the massive amount of copyright holders for each work(if like Jump Heroes), but if like Battle Stadium D.O.N there is a higher chance of release outside Japan.
1 Like @Swithers147 There is a good market, but, if it was 5-6 years ago the amount of copyright holders would make impossible, but due the many fusions and bankrupts, the amount tinned down a bit so as long there aren't many series it can be released.
The main reason of not being able to release if its too much series on it, its because of they release these characters whiteout an actual license some companies might have to carry the burden of these series, series that might not be successful outside Japan(like Gintama).
@Sohereiam Oh well, It's still gonna be epic, great characters so far, those are just some of my few favorite characters that I figured would fit in the game. Thanks for correcting me on this, before I started to wonder about the character roster's choices.
There is a good market for games like this out of Japan, and I want to see a worldwide release, but I understand the point of copyright.
