So let me be sure about this, OUR 3DS XL WILL have the AC adapter? So is it going to be $175 or is it going to be $200? I want to have everything clear before it's release date.
New 3DS XL hitting North America this August

Supersize 3DS model coming to North America August 19 for $200; both 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. to be developed by Namco Bandai; more 3DS games announced. UPDATE: European release confirmed for July 28.
Nintendo has announced a new 3DS model--the 3DS XL--for release in North America this August. The new 3DS system will feature larger screens, a bigger body, and longer battery life. The announcement was made during today's Nintendo Direct broadcast.
The body of the new 3DS will be 46 percent larger, measuring 93x156x22mm, and will feature 90 percent larger screens. The system's battery life will also be longer than its predecessor, with the device lasting between 3.5 to 6.5 hours, while running 3DS software. If the device is running DS games, Nintendo announced that it will run 6 to 10 hours.
The 3DS XL will be released in Japan on July 28, this year, in white, red and black, and silver and black colour variants. The North American version will be out on August 19 and will come in blue and red colour variants. The 3DS XL will also come with a bigger SD card.
Players will pay 18,900 yen ($235) for the device in Japan; North American gamers will pay $199.99 for the new console.
The Japanese release date coincides with the release of 3DS titles New Super Mario Bros. 2 and 5 Minute Oni Training, a new Brain Age title. Both of these titles will be sold at retail stores, and also in downloadable form via Nintendo's eShop.
Nintendo also announced that both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. sequel will be developed by Namco Bandai Games. While Kid Icarus: Uprising developer Masahiro Sakurai will be helming the project, Namco Bandai producer Masaya Kobayashi (Ridge Racer series) and director Yoshito Higuchi (Tales series) will be involved as producer and director, respectively.
Nintendo also detailed the Kirby Memorial compilation. The collection contains six Kirby games from the series, a motto challenge mode containing stages from the most recent Kirby title on the Wii, and a Kirby History mode, which contains movies and anime tie-ins from the series. The collection will be out on July 19 in Japan.
New titles introduced for the first time include a soccer game called Pocket Soccer League Calciobit for the 3DS. The game features online support and will be out on July 12 in Japan. Samurai Warriors Chronicles 2 by Tecmo Koei was also announced and will retain the same core action from past Samurai Warriors games. That game will be out on September 13 in Japan.
Namco Bandai also announced a new 3DS RPG called Lost Heroes. The game is billed as a classic dungeon crawler akin to Etrian Odyssey and features characters from the Kamen Rider series. It will be out on September 6 in Japan.
Lollipop Chainsaw publishers Kadokawa Games announced a new music rhythm game for the 3DS, called AKB48+ME. The game features the songs of J-pop group AKB48 and a "live mode," where players can use Miis in tune to the aforementioned songs. The title will be out this fall in Japan.
Nintendo also announced an eShop exclusive called Gyouretsu Nageloop. The puzzle game has players knocking people out of a queue by throwing a person of a particular colour onto a group of three to four people matching that colour. The game will be out this summer in Japan.
Other highlights include gameplay footage from previously announced 3DS titles, with Japanese release dates including Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner Soul Hackers (August 30), Square Enix RPG Bravely Default (2012), Project X Zone (2012), Lost Planet spin-off E.X. Troopers (2012), and Animal Crossing (fall 2012).
UPDATE: Nintendo has since confirmed that it will be released three weeks earlier in Europe; it is coming to the region on July 28. Pricing for the UK and the Eurozone is yet to be confirmed.

When they announced in the past that there would come a 3ds I said on the forum of gamespot that I would wait for a 3dsi xl.
Most people called me insane and that it would never come...
Even Nintendo said it! OK the 3dsi xl is a 3ds xl but it still is comming.

Oh, this doesn't look too good. Why did they not add another circle pad? I would have totally bought it if they did. So I rather stick to the original 3DS, althought the prolonged battery life would be fantastic. It looks sleek as well too many pros and cons to list on this one.

I understand your interest in the screen resolution of the 3DS XL. It was not our intention to develop an entirely new experience. The individual pixels on the 3DS XL will certainly appear larger, but the visuals are highly detailed.

As for the Circle Pad Pro accessory for the 3DS XL, at this time it has not been announced for release. I don't think Nintendo is planning on seriously supporting the second circle pad. From what I gathered, even the Metal Gear game played fine without it. Since the majority of 3DS games already released don't take advantage of it, Nintendo probably doesn't want to fracture its user base by including it in the XL (nor do they want to add to the cost, I'm sure), forcing current 3DS owners to buy the cumbersome add-on if they want to enjoy newer games which would be more likely to support it if it became standard on the newer version.
The resolution issue is a moot point. Increasing the number of pixels isn't going to do anything to enhance image quality since the games will still be rendered at the same resolution (they have to be, the hardware is the same and the current 3DS is physically limited to that resolution).
I think we all knew it was coming at some point. I mean if Nintendo released 4 versions of the DS, and it went off to become the best selling handheld, and rivals the PS2 as all-time best selling console, why would they not do it again? I do think we won't see upgrades on the level we did with the DS though (like the DSi gaining large features like downloadable games and cameras). I'm personally happy with my regular sized 3DS. And also if the amount of games using the circle pad pro are little to none, then there is really no reason for Nintendo to include it into it's 3DS XL (also it would probably make the system a bit bulkier and pricier). Also i would feel bad as an original 3DS owner if the next iteration a year later featured the Circle Pad pro built in.

Dude, nobody held a gun to your head and forced you to buy a 3DS. You're just mad that you couldn't hold out to see if there would be a larger screen version. 1 Like @Andrew_794 Um, no, as the 3DS XL is a completely optional purchase that's more expensive then the 3DS. If you bought the 3DS before the XL was announced, good for you, you saved 50 bucks. The price cut was completely different, Nintendo was trying to both compensate and reward people that paid nearly 100 bucks more for something exactly the same.
@craigprime We should still be able to purchase these ambassador games regardless. I don't own a Wii and most of the reason I even got a 3DS in the first place was to buy all the old gameboy classics and now they are holding out on us..total crap

One of my friends told me he wouldn't get 3DS until they released an XL version. This was over a year ago. Then again, who DIDN'T see this coming?
Note:No extra circle-pad? I'm pretty sure that the Circle Pad-Pro wont fit on the XL. Personally, I don't care how big it is as long as it can fit in my pocket.
I've got a phone that plays games and fits in my pocket (and makes phone calls, too). Do people still carry portables in their pockets anymore?
My biggest problem with the 3DS is that it's cramped, because it's designed to be arbitrarily small. If console manufacturers want to continue competing with the casual-gaming subsidized phone market (not to mention tablets), then they need to capitalize on the advantages of owning a portable game system (controls, ergonmics, screen size) by making them larger. The 3DS XL demonstrates to me that Nintendo understands this. I definitely think it's a step in the right direction.
@rarson Not to be rude, but what games you play on your phone that satisfy you? I carry 3DS in one pocket, and a phone in the other. It's not a smartphone, so it's a lot cheaper, in terms of both initial price and data plan. I kind of find it awkward to always hold a portable device in my hand, it makes less...portable.
I thought it was a no brainer that a new 3DS model would come built with a second analog stick....oh Nintendo, sometimes you dissapoint me so much. Maybe they're saving it for the Nintendo 3DSi

2 Like I am a little surprised that they didn't try to fit the functionality of the circle pad pro into the actual 3DSxl, so that games that support the CPP could use the second stick without having to purchase another circle pad pro specifically for the 3DSxl. They could have even considered molding the base of the 3DSxl to fit the hands better, like the circle pad pro does.

4 Like If Nintendo had added a second pad the sales of the 3ds would of dropped off alot. The point of releasing the 3ds xl is not to compete against the 3ds but to be appealling to a bigger demographic of gamers. Yes it's about money and lots of people including myself prefer larger screens.
@digitaltiger Hmm, I had not thought about it that way. That is definitely a very logical line of reasoning.
Nevertheless, however, I think I will wait a while longer to buy the 3DS--maybe until E3 2013, or when more info is disclosed about the "3DS successor" Miyamoto said they were focusing on. If I do decide to buy the 3DS, I think I will settle for the original since it will be cheaper, and because I find it much easier on the eyes than the XL.
That is some big-ass thing. I hate how Nintendo always make a bigger version of their previous console! I have a 3DS and I find it to be the perfect size, I don't see why they have to do this - always about the money.
For me the 3DS is not the perfect size because I'm 46 and my eyes are not as good as they used to be. I like that Nintendo listened to us gamers who wanted a bigger screened 3DS XL. Nintendo is giving us a choice. Some people will be happier with the original 3DS and others will be happier with an XL version. And some might even want both.Take you pick.
And of course they want money, everybody works for money to support themselves and their family. Nothing out of the ordinary here. The question is, did they create something that you want to spend your hard earned money on ? If so, it must have been worth it for you. Nobody forces you to buy their stuff.

6 Like Always? This is the 2nd time they've ever done this. If anything, they used to make their handhelds smaller like the GameBoy Pocket and Game Boy Advanced SP and Micro.
