New Assassin's Creed in the works
Ubisoft confirms it is readying another entry in its award-winning action adventure series; more details due in May.
This morning, Ubisoft revealed better-than-expected earnings for the quarter ending December 31, 2010. As part of the earnings report, the company also announced that it had shipped 6.5 million units of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the latest installment in its award-winning, critically acclaimed action adventure series.
Given the critical and commercial success of the Assassin's Creed series, it should come as little surprise that a new installment is in the works. Speaking with analysts in a postearnings release conference call, Ubisoft executives confirmed that Ubisoft will release a new Assassin's Creed game during its next fiscal year, which starts on April 1, 2011, and ends on March 31, 2012. Ubisoft gave no further details about the title, promising more information when it reports its full-year earnings in May.
The new Assassin's Creed game will be the fourth console entry in the series, which began in 2007 with the eponymous original installment. It was followed two years later by Assassin's Creed II, with Brotherhood arriving the following fall. There have also been several portable spin-offs of the series, including Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles and Assassin's Creed II: Discovery for the DS and iPhone and Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines for the PSP. A new title, Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy, will debut on the 3DS later this year.
