Yes cant wait for for a new kirby dreamland.im so excited, even better hes not a string of yarn this time and he has some new powers
Pink puffball next platformer confirmed for this year; Nintendo also working on Wii Rhythm Heaven, DS Pokemon Typing with keyboard peripheral.
It took four years for amorphous Nintendo mascot Kirby to get his own original Wii game with last year's Kirby's Epic Yarn. The wait for his second game on the system looks to be considerably shorter, as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata today announced a new installment in the Kirby's Dreamland side-scrolling platformer series is in development for the Wii.
Iwata didn't give the game a name, but he did say it is in development at Hal Labs. The studio has decades of experience working on the franchise, from the original Kirby's Dream Land on the Game Boy in 1992 to more recent efforts like 2008's Kirby Super Star Ultra. The new Hal Kirby game is expected to see release later this year.
That wasn't the only new game unveiled by Iwata. The executive also confirmed that the DS Rhythm Heaven series (Rhythm Tengoku in Japan) would be getting a Wii installment, with a multiplayer mode allowing friends to call out each other's missteps. Like Kirby, the Wii version of the game is expected to debut later this year.
Iwata also announced Battle & Get! Pokemon Typing DS, a typing tutorial game set for Japanese release this April. Designed to appeal to adults, as well as children, Pokemon Typing will come with a wireless keyboard that will communicate with a Bluetooth receiver in the game card. While Nintendo isn't guaranteeing the keyboard will work with other devices, Iwata noted that he has personally managed to get it working with the iPhone and Android devices.
Awesome. What I really want is a Kirby game with original levels and enemies. I don't really want it to be so much more difficult. I like Kirby games because they have a comfortable feeling.
@Tarfang2 Little King's story wasn't made by Nintendo and not to dissapoint you, but the studio that made LKS is bankrupt. Now IF this Kirby game gets multiplayer, I will enjoy this a lot!
@XT-inc: How is the whole point of Call of Duty a 'speed run'? That's garbage. The multiplayer isn't the whole point of Call of Duty. Sorry now it is, but when Call of Duty started it was a more complete package - you geto 12-15 horus of single player missions and then the online. Anyway you took the 'multiplayer aspect out, well you also forgot about all the optional stuff in 2D platformers. I completed New Super Mario Bros. Wii quite quick, but I've still not got 100%. It's taken me ages to get what I've got. So, if you play platform games fully, they aren't short at all.
@widdowsson91 I can and will criticize Short campaigns.IF we are talking the difference between a speed run excluding the multi-player which is the whole point of COD, and a game that can be cleared 100% in about an hour and a half. So you really want to back up a games mind set when contrasting an obviously tacked on single player option vs a one shot 2d platformer for the same price.
Looks like it might have some features of Kirby Super Star, in that you'll have more than just one attack for each power.
@gabsponge: I completeley agree with what you've said here, but a lot of people don't realsie how many new games Nintendo actually develop. I know you don't like the Wii range (from what you said in the last comment) but that's a new IP. Then they've got all the other games I've mentioned. Also last gen Nintendo's New IP's were Nintendogs and Pikmin. So Nintendo do make a lot of new IP's regularly, but just becuase they aren't as publicised as Mario, Zelda and Metroid nobody knows.
@XT-inc: You can't really criticise 2D platformers on the Wii for being '2 hours long' when a lot of game son the 360/PS3 can be beat in that ammount of tiem too (ie. Call of Duty).
@guyguyguy1234: Well some of Nintendo's new IP's are: Steel Diver (that submarine game), Pandora's Box, Xenoblade and The Last Story (Mystwalker developed it, but worked with Nintendo to do so). All these games are scheduled for world wide release sometime this year.
A 3d "2d" sidescroller sigh let me guess Ill beat it in the span of 2 hours just like kirby 64. *dons fanboy proof outfit* I expected more in the evolution of my childhood franchises, this is powerful weak sauce, and I grow more and more ashamed that this is the best the wii has to offer.
Nintendo is amazing this generation. I really haven't seen this many awesome games on one console since the SNES.
Kirby is already epic... but this game just takes it to a whole other level of Kirby's Epicness... XD... to much epicness going on with Nintendo this year
@Widdowson91 Xenoblade is exactly what I'm talking about. I haven't played the game, but I heard it's really great. I just wish there were more new ips and less wii party/fit or remakes/sequels.
Sweet! Now on to a new Kirby's Dream Course, Stunt Race FX, Uniracers, Faxanadu (even though that wasn't Nintendo), Super Metroid 2 (not Other M even though Other M wasn't bad) and shock us with a New Smash Bros with a Mariokart Wii Online experience.
That game looks pretty cool. I don't know if it'll be as cool as Superstar was, but honestly, I'm amped to see a new, classic-style Kirby game!
About time they make another installation of the "Dreamland" series. I can see it now : "Kirby's Dreamland Returns" lol That would be epic ;o
@GuyGuyGuy1234 You're right about Nintendo's lack of new IPS but you state that you are tired of remakes. This new Kirby game isn't a remake it's actually a new game just with a franchise that's had lots of installments. Remakes are games that already came out but have been redone. Get your terminology right.
@ GameBeaten, They are making a new Pikmin game. They've mentioned it several times before, during interviews last E3 and stuff like that. They haven't exactly made an "official" announcement like they have with other games, but it has been talked about enough to confirm its existence.
I absolutely loved Kirby's Dream Land. I remember getting it on a Friday and barely touching it. I got up the next morning and went for an extended trip to the bathroom and brought along my Game Boy. Beat it in that sitting. Then the real game started in my opinion.
@guyguyguy1234 This gen they are Xenoblade, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Trace Memory, Ouenden/Elite Beat Agents, Fluidity/Hydroventure, Flametail, a Kappa's Tale, and they have many more on the DS. Next gen they have Steel Diver so far.
Everyone is saying Nintendo does have new IP's. And that makes me happy! As much as I love all these remakes, I think to stay strong nintendo needs new FIRST PARTY IP's. Would someone mind telling me what they are? (No, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm serious) Like, I know there's that Submarine game for the 3DS, right?
Yes!! I grew up on kirby and donkey kong. Soon my life will be complete (nope i didnt forget mario i just don't like mario)
@gabsponge: Have you ever heard of Pandora's Box or Xenoblade... oh sorry, you've obviously haven't. They are both NEW IP's from Nintendo. Nintendo release new games all the time.
Now THIS is the side scrolling Kirby game I've been waiting for. Not that Epic Yarn wasn't good, but this is to Kirby as New Super Mario Brothers is to the original Mario games.
RHYTHM HEAVEN!!! NEW KIRBY!!! Typing Pokemon? Hmm... Sounds..... Interesting. Looking forward to ALL of them!! :)
Kirby doesn't just swallow Kratos and Snake, Kratos and Snake begged to enter into Kirby's mouth to avoid his impeding wrath.
