Second add-on for latest Elder Scrolls game hits Xbox 360 next week for $5; content allows gamers to purchase land and build homes.
The wait for new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim content won't be very long for some. Hearthfire, the role-playing game's second batch of downloadable content, is due out on September 4 on Xbox Live for 400 Microsoft points ($5), Bethesda announced today.
The content allows players to purchase land and build a home from the ground up. Players can furnish their abodes with an armory, alchemy laboratory, and a garden, where they can craft items for use in the game. Those who want the job done more quickly can hire a steward to purchase materials and furnish their homes for them.
Once a home is completed, players can move in with their spouse and even adopt a child through the game's new adoption system. Home ownership comes with its own tasks and perils, with players needing to raise their children and defend their home from giants, as well as other nasty creatures.
As part of a previous agreement between Microsoft and Bethesda, all Skyrim DLC launches first on Xbox Live. PlayStation 3 and PC gamers can expect the content to become available for them in about a month.
Hearthfire follows Skyrim's Dawnguard expansion, which launched in June for the Xbox 360. It was released for the PC in early August, but has yet to arrive for the PlayStation 3.

So far I am not thrilled. I wanted to design my own house and build my armory to my specifications. I wanted to display every set of armore I have collected. Why am I limited to only five maniquins in the armory and two more throughout the rest of the house. I thought all of the additions to the house should have been interchangeable. Why am I limited to putting a kitchen on only one side of the house? Why can't I choose a fire pit rather than a fireplace? Also none of the display cases will let me put anything in them. Maybe I am doing somthing wrong. If anyone has any ideas about this please post. Thanks.
Dudes... I paid 5 dollars for this... it rocks! My own house!? Come on now, for 5 dollars it will keep you busy for weeks trying to hunt down all the beasts to put on the wall!
The game develops in PC...gains fame and followers in PC haves best graphics and game play on PC, haves the larger community on PC haves the best community Mods on PC and ...what do you do...
Release it first on the Kids console....nice work on the care you give to the PC funs and community you have...
Maybe it can happend to you like it did to COD games....and then you realise you have been forgoten...
@jcmorgado dude, theres a mod alrdy that allows you to do almost everything this DLC offers.... so no biggie, we basically have twice as much content on PC than on the consoles if not more
@jcmorgado Even though the consoles are getting this content, I still feel bad for anyone who can only get what the consoles can offer Skyrim. Honestly, PCs have had better housing mods than this content provides for months.
Agree totally , thats why in the first place I bought a PC, for that and cause of the console Graphic limitations that you can not improve...Its so diferent over a PC...
@jcmorgado Seriously..? As if posting this on here in the first place would change anything. Why don't you just do us all a favor and stop whining to people who don't care what you have to say anyways.
I am used to the internet kids like you....this is a place to post your thoughts, and so I did, this is were you can speack out your mind about the announcement above and so I did....
if you do not care about what I post do not read it....and spare the big grown up words that you just posted cause it sounds like you are just discharging your own frustration...
any way I say it again, DLC for any game should be released for any Platform at the same time, and Windows are also part of Microsoft , just to remind you of this....
Now that is a totaly doferent way to say stuff mate...in that I can agree with you...the Mods we have on the PC give us advantage of having much more content on PC...
But I was not saying that is not right for Xbox players I am saying that we PC users feel a litlle droped out but its how things arer mate...
@jcmorgado I understand what you're saying, but try to see the things this way: In the consoles, we have to wait mounths and mounths for a new dlc content. In the meanwhile, in the PC, you always have mods, un-official dlcs, etc, that will fill that whole time between launchings of official DLCs :)
who told you that console gamers do not deserve the DLcs???
Stupid is the fact that you do not read my post and come here insulting my motives for posting...
As for the agrrement with microsoft , I agree on that , but what do prevent them from releasing the PC version a week later???
Nothing...this is not business, its a complete unfair and lasy way of releasing a Dlc and then continuing making money with the same content later on other platforms...
I also know that the PC version of this DLC will be more time taking to make cause of the same point I started saying previousely, stronger platform bigger requirements...
but the point is that nothing prevents them from releasing the DLC earlier for PC...even if after the Xbox release...
I agree on that, but its allways sad that PC gamers are always treated like second class users...
This is what I have ment...I spended more then 5.000 Euros in my machine to be able to play this last generation games that I liked, and now that I play them I am relegated along side with so many others like me to secound place on what this all thing concerns...do you understand what I say mate...
I just think it is not fair...from Bethesda to act this way with us...nothing more...
thought I understand the bussines move I do not agree with it, and so I have speaked out this view of mine...
@jcmorgado@ALPRAS91 You're saying that console gamers dont deserve to get dlcs first, I never said that you said that consoles gamers dont deserve dlcs...
Also, you're wrong, its all bussiness. Microsoft bought exclusivity to xbox, and then for pc...
@jcmorgado The PC versions have also had the option of the Creation kit, allowing for countless options for customizing the game, making this about equivalent to the "horse" armor from Oblivion.
ture, but that only proves that if the pc game haves the CK its cause the PC its a more refined and harder on requirements game...everyone knows that the PC version its much more developed and graphicly stronger then the brothers console versions...
...in that point why making a more strong version in a game platform and then releasing the next product updates and DLCs on other platforms first¿¿¿
You have the answer to your question in the beggining of this article, they release it first on XBox Live because of an agreement with Microsoft, who problably paid Bethesda for having it early. Although I agree with you in the unfairness of this, I must admit that if I were the head of Bethesda I would have done the same thing, business is business and besides, more money means a larger budget for next games.
I do recall Bethesda making note that they will have less Add-ons then the fallout series but the add-ons will be bigger and more involved. I don't think that a $5 house add-on fits the gameplan. They could have just waited and added this to another download with more substance. Nice Job Bethesda.
Adopt children what?? That's dumb... I was really looking forward to being able to have mutant Orc/Nord Children with Ysolda raising them so they can live in their own houses and.. oh wait yeah this is SKYRIM not sims... yeah I'm cool with adopting children and house building.
Im surpised at this DLC pack. If its only five dollars then I would like to buy it but, as a ps3 user im still waiting for dawnguard. I hope the next DLC pack has dragon mounts and trip to summerset isle.
Exclusive deals only separate community...but, obviously still going to happen. But, unless the game, DLC, Expansions, etc are at least available for immediate release for ALL platforms...withstanding the exclusive deal waiting...then they simply shouldn't be released until they are. Is that simple. Doing that would at least give urgency and priority in order to get things done to make a profit...rather than risk losing it if players move on, which is easy to do.
I notice a lot of people crying about money... and I just can't fathom how there is anything at all to complain about. There is the main game SKYRIM, when it was released I paid $80 and I have racked up over 400 hours of game play... with just $80(though now it's only $60)... then they released Dawnguard, and I racked up another 50+ hours just on that addition alone for a mere $25, so lets add it up for arguments sake $105 for 450+ hours of gaming (and I am still playing btw). Now buy just about any new release game and you pay a minimum $100 for an average of 10 hours gameplay. I am sure you can all see what I am driving at here.
Bethesda have given us real gamers VALUE for money, if they ask a mere token cost for an addition that adds to our gaming value then I say "Hell Yes, take what you need to keep the good times rolling!"
The "spoiled brats " that complain when Bethesda are doing all the right things by them and the gaming industry really need a swift kick in the backside.
Good stuff Bethesda, I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into creating this masterpiece of a game. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us.
Bite me is right, Bethesda is doing everything the right way and yes it could of been all in one game but then they would of just made DLC's anyway and people would still complain. Yes it should of been released on all platforms equally but that's not the world we live in its All business Microsoft hand over money to get first dibs in there hope more people would buy it for Xbox.I as well Appreciate all the hard work that went into skyrim. and Keep the good stuff coming Bethesda
@Ultra_Taco@Tokugawa77 I live in Australia, as I am sure a lot of people here do, and most high profile games cost around $100 at release, for example: Battlefield 3 = $109 on release = 4.5 hours single player game play, COD.MW3 = $99 on release = 5 hours single player game play, Crysis 2 $99 on release = 8 hours single player game play, Assassins Creed series ALL except the first one were between $99 - $109 = around 20 hours game play each. Shall I go on?
I live in New Zealand where new release games retail between 100 and 130 dollars. I got Skyrim on sale a couple of months after release for 95 dollars. And 500 MS Points costs me $8.25, so this is more like a $7 DLC.
@BiiteMe No one's complaining that Bethesda doesn't do DLC well. The problem is that they're just holding stuff back for the DLC that should have been in the game to begin with.
Sooo by that logic, SKYRIM would not have been released at all until the end of this year??? I think you may be a little presumptuous, they created the main game.... and now they are making it better. By your thinking they should not have released it until they had finished all this DLC and included it into the main game which by rights puts the main game release date somewhere late this year. Just a little food for thought :)
@BiiteMe Exactly. They havent been very nice to the PS3 players though so thay've lost a tiny bit of respect from me for that. (I have it on XBox but it could just as easily have been for PS3 if i'd had one back then).
I would really prefer something that let us become Kings or Jarls, or having new magic powers, or weapons and armor........ But, one thing that Bethesda took in consideration was the huge success of a mod for PC that offered the same thing, so, they decided to make it official.
Another thing I would really love is if they create a DLC where you can raise your level to 100, gaining more perks until you complete all of 'em. They could make more Epic batles like we see on PC with LOTS of npcs and monsters to kill.....
I wonder how much customisation there will be.....house looks like it is made out of three or four premade blocks which are purchased separately....I?m not expecting the amount of customisation as in the Sims but I wonder what if its more like how you furnish homes in the game already (one click and the room is fully stocked)...
It's nice to see someone doing something different for some DLC. I will get back into Skyrim one day. Too many games and too little time. Can we please get about 6 extra hours per day and make it an even 30? I would ask for more, but I am not greedy.
