[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Techtudo updated its original report. The line that previously stated the "next chapter" in the Assassin's Creed franchise would be set in Brazil now suggests Ubisoft is working on a "web-based history" of Brazil, though nothing has been decided.

The next Assassin's Creed game may be set in Brazil. Ubisoft Brazil managing director Bertrand Chaverot told Techtudo this week that the next entry in the company's stealth action series is heading to the South American country.
The report was published in Portuguese, and GameSpot has confirmed the translation. A representative from Ubisoft's North American outfit was not immediately available for comment.
The Assassin's Creed franchise is no stranger to Brazil. This year's Assassin's Creed III had missions set in the South American country.
Ubisoft has released a new core Assassin's Creed game every year since 2009, though no new entry is confirmed for 2013. However, a recent Ubisoft survey suggested a new game in the franchise--that may include co-op--could be on store shelves next year.

Sounds plausible. Brazil has an interesting history: colonization, independence, slavery, aboriginal people, catholic church... Also, Brazil will be on the spot light with 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
i have nothing against the game being centered in Brazil but i would like to see a game in ancient Greece and one where the assassin's dress in black not white. Seriously who tries to sneak around in white, red or dark blue maybe but white?
2 Like I'm sorry but I'm Brazilian and I have to say that this country has a lot in its historical background to offer to make an incredible game. I see there's a Brazilian teenager down there who didn't do his homework properly.
I feel disrespected with such antagonism coming from other countries. I mean, have you ever been to or read thoroughly about Brazil?
I can guarantee that it's not about football, samba and political turmoil.

@JamesJoule The assassins/templars conflict supposedly started since The Great Ones created mankind, so I guess that it's a perpetual conflict between good and evil. Moreover, if what you say is true, then any civilization prior to 1100 AD should be canceled out. That would not be very cool, as a lot of the older civilizations would be incredibly fit for an Assassin's Creed game.

3 Like I really hope this isn't true. They couldn't even get it right in the ten minutes mission we spend in Brazil, imagine an entire game! There were misspelled words on signs, the Brazilians weren't speaking Brazilian Portuguese (hiring Portuguese people to dub Brazilians is the same as hiring English people and expecting everyone will believe they are Americans), and even the setting was wrong ? the patterns on the floor clearly indicated they were in Sao Paulo, but the fighting tournaments only happen in Rio de Janeiro? Oops? (and there are no subway stations that give direct access to stadiums.)
And why the hell were there flags everywhere? People forget where they are otherwise, is that it? I can count in my hand the number of times I have seen a Brazilian flag being displayed like that, and I have lived in this country my whole life.
@Sargitario : hi!! I'm portuguese and I'm with you with that "weird" speak thing!! I don't know anyone who speaks portuguese like that, lool. Probably was a spanish guy across the border trying to use a mix of latin spanish, european portuguese and brazilian portuguese :)
1 Like @ExiLeR82 @Sargitario Seriously, I have no problem with movies or games picturing Brazil as this dirty, gritty, crooked place, as long as they get it right! Do your research like they did in Max Payne and we'll have a great setting to explore. You can't just throw a bunch of L.A.'s black gangsters fighting Ronald McDonald in the middle of Times Square while hundreds of morbidly obese white people nearby try to hide for cover behind Cadillacs and Ferraris, just as you can't picture another country as you know it from a picture you once saw on a magazine... and sometimes I feel like that's just what every type of media tries to achieve, making Brazil look like a huge Carnaval surrounded by slums with a monkey hanging down on your head, not even MW2 got it right goddamn it!
*That Times Square scene would actually look pretty cool, now that I think about it....
They must have something in mind...No one thought Brazil had any potential for Max Payne 3 and here it is Max Payne performing in Brazil in a very awesome way.
Brazil's not the right place should be in France or England or china or Egypt or Japan they are so meny country's have history but not brazil 123
I am brazillian and have to say: WHAT THE HELL UBISOFT there is nothing in this country's history that would be AC worthy.

3 Like Well, from the tone of your comment I don't think you'll really value any information I give you, and I even question whether you're sincere about your nationality, but for everyone else interested, here's just a quick list of cool Brazilian history subjects that could possibly be turned into games:
- Portuguese Colonization and enslavement of natives.
- Farroupilha Revolution.
- Italian immigration > mafia > the beginning of organized crime.
- Japanese immigration > Yakuza branching out to South America.
- WWII > One of the few countries to ever have soldiers honored by the enemy (Germans) for their bravery, one of the few foreign. forces officially honored by the US Government.
- Sao Paulo Civil War .
- Northeastern "Wild West" (Cangaco).
- Near major civil war with US intervention during 64's coup d'etat - Araguaya guerrillas against dictatorship
- Organized militias in the South (90s -2000s).
- Organized crime in Sao Paulo > modern mafia> rise of major "Tactical" police battalions such as ROTA.
- Organized crime in Rio > ruthless drugwars, rise of highly trained police SFs such as BOPE, military intervention.
- Rise of militarized private security companies, reaching a bigger number of personnel than the police itself (over 500,000).
... and there's a lot more that I overlooked, it all just comes down to how you look at it. We have hundreds of years of crooked, nonetheless interesting history, we might as well get some profit out of it!

1 Like The most interesting thing I can think of in brazilian history in that time period is the "Inconfidência Mineira", which, was inspired by, and takes place shortly after the American Revolution. The setting is a tradicional colonial city (Vila Rica, named now Ouro Preto). I can see that happen...
@pacheco03 If it's to make a game about this, they would do better to make one about the French Revolution instead, since it was where the mineiros took the idea from the first place (and that actually resulted in something more than just a poor scapegoat guy being hanged with the upper-class wastrels that idealized the revolt watching while seated upon their amnesty).
The setting is really interesting, though...

3 Like Where are you getting "web based" from in the Techtudo article? From my reading the original Portuguese doesn't mention anything about that.

Ok, something that we CAN'T say, is that Brasil doesn't have a good and interesting History!
Many people say it because they don't know anything about the Country and have a bad stereotype of Brasil, and don't even try to search about the Brasil's history!
I think that AC 4 set in Brasil would be great, but it wasn't confirmed yet!

@kazumashadow Sim eu sou brasileiro, mas não estou entrando no mérito do Brasil ser uma bosta ou não, e sim dizendo que por mais que no seu estado atual, ele seja uma droga, o Brasil tem ótimas Histórias que podem muito bem ser encaixadas em um AC!
1 Like @kazumashadow É bem isso mesmo. Partindo dessa premissa não existe dificuldade alguma de inserir essa temática em praticamente qualquer cenário. O problema é visto somente por esses guris que vivem de videogame e esquecem os livros de história do Brasil e tampouco acompanham os noticiários. Basta fazer bem-feito e o sucesso á mais que garantido.
@kazumashadow A estória do Assassin's Creed tem que ser Assassinos contra Templários, a história do lugar onde ele é situado entra no contexto do jogo!

You can be sure there will be an assassins creed release for last quarter 2013. Maybe Mexico, (latin america) or even south america? Mexican pyramids, anyone?
God, I hope it's not going to Brazil. The franchise is popular there because most of them pirate the game for free.
