O my Lord above,Nintendo does it again! Everyone jabbed and jabbed the Wii motion controls,and now look,the competitors are finally realizing what The Big N did 5 years ago and capitalizing on motion.Now Nintendo is done with that and doesn't even seem to care what the others do,they're ready to set another trend.But they aren't forcing anyone to get 3d-note the slider that can turn 3d off completely. And that SpotPass and StreetPass look way better than the Sleep mode the current ds lineup has.Also the Instant Mii maker.I like that one.BRING IT ON!!!

Okay, to all the people that are hating on the 3DS. Go to Wikipedia, type in 3DS, read the whole article, then come back and tell me EXACTLY what part about it you don't like, without saying "3D is a fad" because that's your personal opinion, not a fact, or "it costs too much" because it's a 3D video game system, it's gonna cost a lot.

@maxwell97 I'm giving my opinion, just as you are giving yours. Sorry if I don't agree with you but this world is made of all kinds of people. Just because Nintendo sets a price (or anybody) doesn't mean it a fair or acceptable price. That's why there is a law agaisnt price gouging, because at a certain point a price point becomes a burden, and somebody is taking advantage of the consumer. If nobody spoke out then things would get way out of and, and so there are people like me who will say something, and there are people like you who could care less about being ripped off. In the end it's our individual choice as to whether we choose to react one way or another and nobody can control what someone else has to say about it.

@magusat999: So what exactly are you saying? That Nintendo should be forced to charge less, or that consumers should not buy it because it's too expensive? If the latter, that's fine, convince as many people as you can, but it's silly to say that it's an "outrageous markup". Nintendo makes a product, sets a price, and sells it; people are free to buy it or not as they see fit. The only determining factor of its value is what people are willing to pay for it. If people are happy paying $300, then that's what it's worth, regardless of what you might think about it. Besides, the product you're paying for is more than a box of parts, it's also design, programming, software development, marketing, testing, support, artistic licensing, taxes, warehouse space, shipping, exchange rate, customs, retail space, network usage, lawyer's fees, and every other thing that costs money that you haven't thought of, but are necessary to make the product a reality. Nintendo's accountants add that up, they figure out a profit margin that works (taking into account a host of other factors, like market share), and come up with a price. If you don't like it, don't buy it; it's not like you have a right to a 3DS at the price YOU say is fair. Until you fork over the cash, it belongs to Nintendo (or the retailer), and they can charge what they want.

I wonder if you'll be able to save the games in the internal drive, because that was the reason why I held back on buying the DS or the DSi: you can't save the games in the SD disk.

@ecs33 Nobody said you have knowledge of economics. Your comments show you are economically challenged. If you think that good economics means a company should be able to charge whatever they want, and consumers have no right to complain about it - our only choice being "don't buy it" - then no, you do not have "economic knowledge". If you make comments towards people who cannot afford unreasonable markups as if they do not deserve it anyway because they are "too poor", then you are socially AND economically inept. If you are thinking that the rest of the market has no effect on you, and screw them if they cannot afford something, then you show that you have no economic sense whatsoever. And because you feel you are better than someone who cannot afford something, or are unwilling to pay an outrageous markup, to the point where you are telling them they have no right to protest it, then THAT is an elitist attitude, and foolish - because you cannot tell people what they can and cannot accept, no matter what you decide to waste your money on. Nobody makes decisions based on what you say - you can preface it with "I can afford it" all you want - people live and do things for themselves and could care less how tired you get of it.

The promise of lower prices came with the onset of plastic - but that never happened and now the children who never heard that promise have been wholly seduced into believing that any price is okay as long as the company generates enough hype. Talking to people like that is like talking to a brick wall - a 5 million dollar brick wall. You don't care what your choices are doing to other people, and are frequently smart-mouthed about it. Its a very selfish generation that is causing problems for itself, and will suffer the consequences as prices continue to jump up and you income cannot handle it. It doesn't matter that the product is "necessary" or not - did you ever consider that the less people can afford it, the less people will buy it - and the more chance that it will fail and you will end up with an unsupported product? There are consequences that WILL affect you if you do not be a more responsible consumer, and help control companies.

@ecs33 First of all, you need to look at what I was responding to. The comparison to paying for water WAS appropriate in response to the comment. And I reiterate that just as there is a law against price gouging there must be controls on costs. Nowhere in my post, as your response would insituate, did I say a company doesn't have a right to a profit. But that profit must be resonable and based on tangible premises. As a CONSUMER, I want to, and expect to pay a fair price, and adding 100 - 150% because "people like it" is unreasonable and intangible. "Because people like it" does not add value to a product, and it will not help me re-sell it. People like water - go try and sell a cup of water and see what you get. There could have been any number of lies the CEO could have came up with to justify such an outrageous price - but he uses "appeal". It's a stupid reason, and any consumer would be stupid to pay that extra money for that reason... but here they are already defending getting gouged - pathetic.

hm... i might be able to pull up 300 dollars by then if I try to save money... and it's true, 250 dollars is most likely the real price! I have Hope! and Dead or Alive Dimensions seems pretty good, it has a pinch of pervness, but that's why people have the abilitie to ignore small things easily.

I expect the price to be $250 in the US. $299 I think is just a guess by currency converting 25,000 yen.

I ll tap that in February, the first Nintendo I ll own. if I stayed alive by then, and maybe I ll still buy it if I died.

Sony should capitalize by dropping the price of the PS3 by 50 bucks and introduce a PSP with a second analog stick and at a cheaper price than the 3DS. That would be the best way possible to alter sales from this expensive piece of hardware! I want one too guys, please don't get me wrong. But 300 dollars? Wow. With today's economy I just can't justify the purchase, when that could get me 5 games for my PS3 or a brand new Slim60.

If you bought the Wii for around $250 (which is what I think the 3DS will be when it hits the US) and the 3DS is basically comparable to what the Wii is today, but a little less in graphics (but graphics do not matter in any game, imo) why does it even matter, plus it's a handheld so you can use it on the go, so basically the way I see it is it's a Wii except you can play it anytime you want. Also, I'm not to sure on this but when you are playing a non 3DS game on the system, is the game going to look 3D? Example: You put Super Mario 64 DS in, will it look 3D?

Remember back in the mid 90's when Nintendo continued to use cartridges and lost the console wars to Sony's disc based console? Well, I don't see the DS losing ground to the PSP any time soon but at $300 Nintendo could be making another big mistake! I don't think I've ever seen any Nintendo console sell for more than $250. Hopefully it will not go the way it did for the PS3 when it first debuted at a high price. I take that last sentence back. Hopefully it will so then they will lower the price quicker.

You guys should quit complaining about the price, while you are complaining about how high the price is, you could be saving money, and if you want it bad enough you should have no problem paying the amount, or just don't get it, and I really doubt the price will be $299 dollars when it hits the US.

I cant wait until everyones comments about the price here prove to be useless. Ninteno has not said that this is the official North American price. And if it is, get over it. Ever since I was a kid, my parents didnt buy me consoles at launch as they found it too expensive. They did not believe in spending so much money on something that leaves you spending time doing something unproductive(Unless of course you are in the game industry). Ever since the ps2, I have never bought a console at launch(handhelds included). But now, I have a ps3,ps2,ds, and psp(apart from the consoles before that). I have played all their launch titles for a cheaper price, and have had a steady flow of great games to buy. People that bought the ps3 at launch have had times when the console didnt have the games, although they had the money. Not saying that you shouldnt buy this at launch. If I have the required money at the time, I probably will. But complaining wont change anything. Keep on gamin :)

Sounds like Sony may just have to create a portable PS3 to top this.
