Nintendo will return to European trade show in 2013, after skipping the event in 2012.
Nintendo will be returning to German gaming trade show Gamescom in 2013, the event organisers have announced.
The first-party publisher opted to skip the show in 2012, despite being close to launching the Wii U at the time.
Microsoft also elected to steer clear of the European event last year. Sony, on the other hand, was a founding member of Gamescom.
"The participation of Nintendo clearly demonstrates that the industry remains wholly behind gamescom," said Dr. Maximilian Schenk, managing director of German trade association BIU.
Nintendo will be joined by Bethesda Softworks, Electronic Arts, Konami, NCsoft, Riot Games, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros, among others.
Gamescom 2013 will take place in Cologne's Koelnmesse from August 21-25. Last year the event saw 275,000 visitors and more than 600 exhibitors.
I would like to see a major new IP from Nintendo, and by big I mean a triple A title with a great investment in quality and not just marketing and sales like the Wii brand games. You can keep those coming but give us, the most dedicated players, deeper and rewarding experiences in new ways like you did so many times before. This is not a request for Gamescom event specifically but of a lifetime! Take a fucking risk and do what you do better Nintendo.
I want more Mario Kart, like every year, or like all the tracks that was ever on Mario Kart in one Mario Kart, and more DLC tracks, characters and cars
The Wii U needs a little bit of a boost(its not failing yet) so of course the best way to do this is go to all the events they can.
Haha why would they need to goto Gamescon last year? They havent released aynthing worth showing off for a decade..Marketing is also not one of their strongest things so of course they would derp the chance to do a logic thing like promote their new system before it launched.
Gamescon aint gonna help them now. Marketing is not suppose to be a desparate attempt to get the attention you should have garnered before if is a crucial part of launching a new product.
@WingChopMasta a decade ?? I loved skyward sword and xenoblade and that was not that long ago there has been other fine titles both on wii and gamecube, Iam sorry you missed them.
@wober2 @WingChopMasta I meant more of a meaningful reason to be there. Skyword Sword was of course a good game but one game would not justify a booth at Gamescon which is pretty much why they never went.
Xenoblade is a Jrpg which are not the most popular in the western gamingsphere anymore. Which is the problem Nintendo is facing. Xbox and Sony have defined the western market with shooters and action Rpgs. The heavy Japanese inspired content Nintendo keep dolling out has a hard time competing now.
