No Metro: Last Light for the Wii U - Report

4A Games CTO Oles Shishkovtsov says Nintendo's next-generation console has a "horrible, slow CPU"; confirms there will be no Wii U version of Metro 2033 sequel.
Metro: Last Light developer 4A Games has confirmed that it will not be bringing the sequel to Nintendo's next-generation console due to technical limitations.
Speaking to Now Gamer, 4A Games chief technical officer Oles Shishkovtsov told the publication that the Wii U has a "horrible, slow CPU".
His colleague Huw Beynon reiterated the sentiment, telling the publication there would not be a Wii U version of Metro: Last Light, because the studio "couldn't justify the effort required".
"We had an early look at it, we thought we could probably do it, but in terms of the impact we would make on the overall quality of the game--potentially to its detriment--we just figured it wasn't worth pursuing at this time," Beynon said in the interview. "It's something we might return to. I really couldn't make any promises, though.
"Given the size of the team, and compared to where we were last time, just developing for the PlayStation 3 is a significant addition."
Metro: Last Light, which is published by THQ, was initially shown on a Wii U sizzle reel during the console's unveiling at E3 2011. It later also appeared in a leaked Blockbuster Wii U database listing.
Metro: Last Light is slated for release in early 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

2 Like Too bad, for those saying another FPS, you couldn't me more mistaken, if it is anything like Metro 2033 it'll be all about immersion, kinda like a survival horror, with stellar visual, tight controls, and great animation. For the Nintendo Haters, what do you gain if a game doesn't arrive to another system, it'd be awesome if Nintendo fans could get something different than 1st party games, this is a game that they will sorely miss. Looking forward to this beauty
I feel bad for Wii U fanboys. There has been a lot of these stories going around. How many games are going to skip Wii U before you admit Wii U is not next gen? PC for life!

Also I don't have a Wii U "yet" & I have a 360; PS3; Wii; 3DS. So I'm not biased towards any group unlike you.
Anyways I hope you have fun with that PS4 that won't allow pre-owned games & probably won't be backwards compatible. Ain't got shit to say about the new Microsoft system.

lies , this company just makes bad games , ill pass on any metro title , give me a top gear or a well deserved sequal to zombies ate my neighbors or rock n roll racing then you can run your can about a system that you did not give half a chance that its got a slower processor , i call b/s on this one , its got more ram and thats whats in the wiius favor , and newer hardware , i bet this same company wouldnt say the same thing if ps4 and 720 become the casual systems that rumors have speculated it to be infact 720/xbox ,is said to be only 20 -30 percent more powerful which isnt that big of a jump lol
@mariokart64fan I always find it easier to pass on any games that aren't released on my console of choice as well.
Regardless of what specs Nintendo 'claim' this thing has, ultimately all will become clear when its released, although given Nintendo's track record, i really would'nt be so optomistic in hoping for a massively powerful console, and anyway it doesnt need to be comaparible to the 360/PS3, its a Nintendo Console afterall.

1 Like Not willing to jump on board yet for the amount it would cost, that's fair enough really.
I'm still not all that convinced on the WiiU, personally I think this console will be make or break for Nintendo. The fact they've released it a year or two before the next big hitters come out seems a strange market move, I know a LOT of people are just going to wait.
I'm not going to buy a Wii U because I can get pretty much all the same games on my PS3, as others can on their 360's. I just don't really see the 'gap' in the market that they're aiming for :/
If 140,000,000 PS3's/360's have been sold worldwide and sales are depleting why would customers consider buying a console with the same library of games? Just doesn't make sense..
Unless you're a solitary Wii owner obviously.. in which case go for it!

Assassins Creed 3 requires a quad core processor to run at decent speeds. I have Metro 2033 on my PC, and the game uses less physics than the protagonist's athletic abilities found in any Assassins Creed game.
I really don't know about this one, folks.

1 Like No wait a second, some good user replied to me listin the requirments for the PC of this Metro Last Light and the only good AMD i'm seeing in the list is AMD Radeon HD.
But Wii U has AMD Radeon HD.

AMD Radeon HD is not a GPU. It's a BRAND of Gpu. And they are talking about CPU's.

Actually, my guess is that whatever hardware Nintendo is using is different enough that unoptimized ports will probably suffer. That already seems to be the case with some of the ports that have comprised the Wii U launch games. I suspect that developers who start with the Wii U in mind will have better results. But I'm just guessing.

Also - I played the mass effect trilogy on xbox and got to half way play ME3 with kinect and it was a blast, calling out abilities and even choosing dialogue while walking to the kitchen-. What is it like with the wii u - what does the tablet do, anyone and thank you.
5 Like @firstclassgamer If the original game is any indication, you couldn't be more wrong. I assume you never played the original, as if you did, I serious doubt you assume the sequel, by the same developer, is a traditional FPS cash in.
Metro 2033 was the kind of game that made all but the most awe-inspiring of PC's question the meaning of their existence. Hopefully Metro Last Light will be better optimized. I enjoyed the heck out of Metro 2033 on en Eyefinity setup back in the day and looking forward to Metro Last Light even if it does make my PC cry tears of performance shame.
They would probably have to neuter Metro Last Light to get it on the WiiU...
1 Like As far followed the wii u has a better gpu, more ram (despite the bandwith being slower) and a CPU slower than the ps3 and xbox360's, Metro is a game that requires a lot of cpu and gpu then I think the wii u will not run well this kind of games and other games that use the real potential of the ps3 and xbox360 cpus
@lekzero I have a 6 core CPU @ 3.8ghz, 8gb of 1866mhz DDR3, and a IceQ 6870(1gb of VRAM) and Metro2033 at max settings puts a strain on my PC, so i can only imagine the nightmare it must be for the WiiU. Well, assuming those CPU specs for the WiiU are true.
@godzillavskong I ran when I had a Phenom II x4 2.9 Ghz, 4 Gb DDR3 1333Mhz RAM, and a Radeon 5770 1GB, its really a heavy game.

@emptycow @ABEzilla116 I'm not trying to jump in this arguement, but I live in Toronto, Canada and the Wii-U as been sold out at most EBgames/Gamestop Canada hell they were all sold out of the pre-orders and thier is now a waiting list for any new consoles for that brand and I can not comment on Walmart Canada.

Send less products during the first days and so a lot of people will see that's sold out and think that everyone bought one because it's cool/awesome/perfect/good price... And don't forget the people who will sell it a lot more than it's price on ebay.

2 Like Im a Xbox 360 and Ps3 player. I Have my Wii just to decorate my room. But the developers have to be Honest. Is not because the cpu for wii u is weak or something, the developers dont like tthe rules that nintendo have, about if youre game is glitchy on release, you cant fix it with a lot of updates like in the xbox 360 or ps3, dont release a game with half the content on disc and the other half on DLC, Please dont include Microtransactions on games, thats nintendo rules. Thats why The new developers dont like the new Nintendo Console, in terms of power i have no doubt that is the most powerfull console right now. Im not a nintendo fanboy, i like more the xbox 360 and ps3 what i dont like is that this gen is having a lot of dlc and microtransactions on games that i dont support. What i like about nintendo is that Nintendo dont want that developers charge more for games that the gamers buys, and thats why im going to support Nintendo. The next Xbox and Playstation is going to be worse youll see... You buy the game at 69.99 dollars and for 49.99 dollars you download the other parts of the game youll see.

Yes youre right about when Xbox 720 and PS4 comes, the wii u is going to look very very outdated. But Right now if you see the specs of the Wii U is more powerfull than Xbox 360 and PS3. But the problem Nintendo have is that developers dont like Nintendo old fashion digital ideas, developers wants to keep winning more money with DLC and everything, and Nintendo dont let them do that. Im not saying That the wii u is not going to have DLC of course is going to have that, but not like the Xbox 360 and Ps3 have. And yes this power Nintendo have with the Wii U in terms of visuals and everything is going to last 7 months only because i bet that in November next Year the Xbox 720 is going to be in stores. So Nintendo knows that they want to be the cheaper choice when xbox 720 and ps4 is released.

Burleson's comments echo those of Gearbox chief creative officer and Aliens: Colonial Marines director Brian Martel, who told Nintendo Gamer in April: "The machine itself [the Wii U] will be one of the best-looking versions of the game?because they've got more RAM?They're late in the cycle, so they've got this really great processor." @silversix_ @ANNOiNT3D_ON3 Well they want to make the wiiu affordable, though at 300 bucks that's a bit of a stretch, but since the tablet costs what? 170? 130 bucks for the system kinda limits what it'll be able to do. Sony and microsoft would just say screw it, we'll just charge 600 bucks and make it cheaper in 4 years when it'll still be relevant.
