Obsidian's plan for Fallout: New Vegas 2

CEO Feargus Urquhart says studio would "love" to make sequel; it would take place on West Coast of US, maybe in Los Angeles.

Obsidian Entertainment would "love" to make Fallout: New Vegas 2, studio CEO Feargus Urquhart told Rock Paper Shotgun. No firm plans are in place just yet, but he said the game would be separate from whatever future Fallout game Bethesda may be working on, potentially a Boston-set Fallout 4.

"I think if we were to do Fallout: New Vegas 2--or just a new Fallout--we would probably separate it from what the internal team at Bethesda's doing," Urquhart said. "We'd keep it on the West Coast, because we're West Coast people. They're East Coast, so it makes sense."

Urquhart also teased that the game could be set in Los Angeles and even take inspiration from zombie series The Walking Dead.

"And we need an interesting confined area. So I mean, it could be LA. Fallout LA," he added. "That could be interesting. It'd probably be The Boneyard, which is from Fallout 1. It could be very different. It could be almost a Walking Dead meets Fallout-like thing because of all the radiation."

Fallout: New Vegas 2 is not the only new game Obsidian wants to make. Urquhart revealed last week that he has pitched LucasArts on a new Star Wars role-playing game. This title would be set between the events of Episode III and Episode IV, though Obsidian has yet to speak with new Star Wars owner Disney about the game.

Obsidian is currently working on South Park: The Stick of Truth and Project Eternity.

I think NV is better than 3 but even I think NV2 would be stupid. A new Fallout in a new location made by Obsidian would be amazing but extremely unlikely. Move on, Obsidian. If Bethesda wants to run down and ruin Fallout, let them. I don't even care anymore.

Dear Bethesda, your Fallout games, and games in general, are buggy enough as it is. Please don't ever let Obsidian near the Fallout series, again. Ever.

@RadecSupreme @Reuwsaat Either you have played the old Fallout-games or you haven't, and if you belong to the former you'll probably appreciate New Vegas more because it's more in tone with its roots, with it setting in the west coast, the return of factions and overall how it's written.

For me, I think NV is the better game between them two.

SkytheWiz1

@G24S @RadecSupreme @Reuwsaat I do think NV was better (it offered much more content, even if invisible walls ruined quite a bit of my fun with it), but playing Fallout 3 for the first time was - by far - a more memorable experience and will likely stick with me in a way that games like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound have.

Still, I would HIGHLY consider ANY future Fallout game.

There is nothing interesting in Los Angeles that would warrant an entire video game.  Change it to something like Fallout: Kansas--much better.

417 comments posted (as of 4/2/13), the result of a short six-paragraph blurb about a potential-perhaps-could-possibly-thinking about-maybe-might happen-someday-sometime-you never know-new Fallout. Just goes to show how deeply into the cortex the FO experience is burned after 100+ hours (at least in my case), yet I still want more. And the crazy thing is, I'm not alone!

I played NV before Fallout 3. Since the new bioshock was over in the blink of an eye and very overrated imo, Ive been thinking of heading back into the fallout universe. Not sure if i should play 3 or NV again, first time up i didnt mod NV to look as amazing as fallout 3 ended up, but I much MUCH prefered the atmosphere from Fallout 3 and all the funky side missions. The Alien stuff was a great diversion from the main story. Can we properly play through Fallout 3 taking different story choices to make it feel like a new game or does it all end up feeing the same thing again? Infact, fuck it, Im going to play through Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines again, THAT is a game and a half!

@highlanderjimd Yeah, I greatly preferred Fallout 3's feel as well. I enjoyed its charm and I understood, even if I didn't play Fallout and FO2, that NV attempted to go back to its roots.

That much I agree with... BioShock Infinite being overrated is a whole 'nother story, however, what with it being damn near perfect n' all, lol. I find most people that say that didn't take it all in and/or understand it.

Give me fallout 4 now please. then take my money. TAKE IT YOU BITCHES!!!! YES! p.s do not design the game for a console, make it on a PC first then downscale everything for the PS4/720. Fallout 3 modded up to the eyeballs is a fucking work of art. Vanilla Fallout is only a great game.

Dont like the idea, New Vegas was boring, not like Fallout 3. The best that they can do is invest a lot in a epic Fallout 4 and make NV 2 a alternative idea for the future.

i wish these guys or Bethesda would have been the ones to make the walking dead game maybe then it would have been a good game. but i love the fall out games so i wouldn't mind seeing an other Vegas.

I've enjoyed all the Fallout games. 3 and NV, I mostly liked for different reasons . 3 for its atmosphere, characters, and story. New Vegas for how much content it had (Huge list of rare items), variety of enemies, and leveling system. Even if you don't like one or the other, to say any of them are "horrible" or "terrible" is an exaggeration. "Terrible" is a word you use when you hear about a dog getting killed in a house fire. Not a word to describe a game that, even though you may not like, an equal amount of others do like. I don't think there are many games today that could be considered terrible. I mean, what would you call Superman 64 or big rig over the road racing if Fallout New Vegas is your peak of terribleness?

Anyway, I wouldn't mind having both 4 and NV 2. I love the way these games play. I love exploring and looting, and I love the freedom. Just call me easily satisfied.

Just give us a new Fallout 4, I didnt no like Fallout New Vegas, for some reason it did not draw me into the game like Fallout 3.  If they would put their effort into a new fallout and upgrade the graphics to that of skyrim it could be increadible, not that graphics make the game as i luved FO3 but heck if they put that into FO4 AND the graphics it could be a blockbuster, i so much enjoyed walking the wasteland and searching.  New Vegas 2, ill pass.........

tonywalpole88
tonywalpole88

Arda_Daghan212 So you stopped playing the game because of the graphics? bit stupid aint it? i suppose you wouldn't play goldeneye or even doom cos the graphics are old........The graphics dont matter ts all about the game play no matter how bad the graphics are

highlanderjimd
highlanderjimd

@tonywalpole88 its the framerate that causes people to stop playing i think. I simply could not play such games on a console with a controller. Spend most of the time fighting the sluggish, laggy controls or trying to see wtf is juddering towards you is not a pretty thing to do.

Heck yeah, I'd love see another Fallout from Obsidian. Put it on a bluray disc, stop with the Steam only,  no alternative nonsense. Give me an actual retail blu-ray pc version with no service attached to it please. I wonder if it would be the first ever blu-ray pc game, still waiting on that to happen. Go back to the good old days of buy, put disc in drive, install, play. No always online please.

I haven't played Fallout NV when it came out, I tried it like a week ago but the graphics were too bad for me to keep playing, I mean, for when it came out, it was the sh*t and I get that. And yeah there's lots of things that are fun to it too, but it's like playing Oblivion after playing Skyrim. Therefore I stopped playing so I'd appreciate a new fallout game with up-to-date graphics and gameplay. Wouldn't put-off checking that one out.

@stan_hg @Arda_Daghan212 your right, but man did Bethesda get it right on Skyrim, its excellent graphics and although i would play it with FO3 graphics, the Skyrim graphics if put into a new FO4 would be amazing.....and you know it would.....it would be a win win.

I would be happy if they just fixed all the bugs..my game was unplayable practically after about 85% completed...i quit playing it  ...same with Skyrim world was full of bouncing dead dragon bones...just ridiculous how many bugs in these games..

@squidbilly22 Totally agree, they can't seriously be considering making games with the same issues as the past games, they need to learn to smooth it out first, the save file issues should be must.

OK, if I had to take a side on would have to say that overall I liked FO3 more than NV, but enjoyed both. Any inkling of a new FO gets my attention. I just finished Red Dead Redemption (on PS3; yes, I'm way behind with this title but I'm a bargain-bin shopper), and the whole time I was thinking that a mash-up of the very excellently rendered wild west world of RDR with the superior game-play mechanics and exploration of Fallout games would make for great experience (much superior to the actual RDR game).

jefferson1964
jefferson1964

@BillMarz red dead is good, i played it and it was fun, sold it off a while back but found it on sale with the zombie packs for $20 and the zombies are so different game wise than any other zombie game, its good.  My favorite games in order are Bioshock 1, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Mass Effect 1/2/3, should i hear of a new Fallout 4 and Bathesda is involved I will be pre-ordering.

I thought NV was "good" while 3 was pretty godlike. The story, the characters, the environment, everything about 3 was immersive. Really, I could care less about what happens to New Vegas, I just want to wonder the wasteland with Dogmeat and Fawkes.

NV does have better DLCs, Honest Heart and OWB were pretty good, while Point Lookout was a little lame and Pitt only a little better. Make the story a little better thats all!

I always felt a Fallout set in Alaska would be neat (someone mentioned this previously), to see how things are/were after the war considering the combat that took place in and around occupied Anchorage.  Not to mention it could be the first Fallout game with snow!

Also mentioned before, I considered New Orleans.  It could be a society rebuilt on the flooded ruins of the city.  Mirelurks...mirelurks, everywhere.  GO FOR THE FACE!

Walking through the ruins of DC, looking at the nuked rubble, one felt sorrow. This is your country you are standing on. Walking through the desert, where rednecks destroyed their own homes/trailer parks (they weren't nuked), one felt annoyance.

If you make NV2.. don't do a half-ass job like every game you have made for the last decade (stop blaming everyone else for your rush jobs). FILL THE MAP... nothing worse than a half-empty wasteland, filled with uninteresting trailer-trash.

And give us some factions we -might- be interested in helping. Post-U.S. squatters like Cali-trash and Midwest football players are uninspiring.

Gravitas... NV desperatly needed gravitas.

jefferson1964
jefferson1964

@Virkhus well said, the setting alone was not interesting to me, while DC with all the monuments in ruins and the subway was interesting and fun to explore....i have no idea what city would be good next, NY?  Another DC updated with new quest adventures and graphics and a larger area outside to roam maybe? I dunno...Skyrim is just a made up place but its interesting so we will see.

GrahamZ
GrahamZ

@Virkhus I totally agree with you about the annoyance.  I realized after a bit that I was being led into helping people and factions that I didn't really give a damn about.  In 3, it felt important, like I was helping to heal the world.  Plus, on top of all of that, were the game-killing bugs -- that was my last straw.  It's the first and only Fallout game that I had no desire to actually complete.
