Virtual-reality headset and gaming tablet to appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week.
The Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset and Razer Edge gaming tablet will be demoed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week, The Verge editor in chief Joshua Topolsky has announced. Topolsky will demo the devices on this Wednesday's show.
Fallon is no stranger to games and technology. His show hosts an annual Video Game Week, which last year featured The Last of Us, Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Wii U, and Madden NFL 13.
The Oculus Rift was originally targeted to ship during holiday 2012, but was delayed in November to a release by April 2013. The company said the delay was necessary due to extra time required to implement changes and modifications to the device necessary for mass-manufacturing.
The Razer Edge--formerly Project Fiona--was announced during the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show this month. A basic version starts at $1,000, with the Pro model shipping for $1,300. Both models will be available by April 2013.

Soon you can get your fix for M and adult content driven into your warped psyches in a way that will drive you right over the edge...assuming you haven't passed it already...As impressive as VR is, I don't know if I could ever subject myself to it...that's just too close to insanity, no matter WHAT the game is about.
@Mausingen@Samparksh Console still won't be as impressive as shown in this video. The demo was run with a single Geforce 680 paired with a i7-3770K @ 3.5GHz and 32 GB RAM, which means they were probably using PhysX to enhance the visuals and you won't see that with an AMD card.
Pretty sure I'd rather just get a brick off the ground, a belt and some black paint together, paint the brick black, and then proceed to use the belt to tie it to my face.
It's all fun and games until your head and neck start to ache from wearing the viewfinder + headphones. And, of course, most games designed for it would be FPS games. We haven't had enough of those in recent years have we @_o
@Shouoken4Peace Many different genres can benefit from a HMD. Not just FPS. Also, many reporters that have already worn the Rift say it's a lot like wearing ski goggles. E.g. they're not heavy.
@FallenOneX It may be cool that he has games on his show sometimes, but jeez, he's absolutely terrible at them. I think he's sometimes funny, but the game stuff he has is embarrassing.

Howdy...accidentally saw this thread advertised on some forum and got very curious. Actually i've seen most of Videos and reviews about Oculus Rift and i'm informes a lot about it, since that's one of the things i'm currently interested in.
Just wanted to add my voice to those, who think positive and look forward into it as in a big revolution in gaming world. No doubt it will really shake our planet like nothing else so far.
Since i'm a big fan of MMO games as well, and started to play them since the beginning of 2000's, i've got bored of current stuff few years already. None of the upcoming MMO game is giving me the promised excitement during the gameplay, and when i first heard about Occulus Rift, i was so amazed. Now it seems like this is what i've been waiting for years, without any clue about it.
This amazing gadget really deserves to be connected with the words such as New generation!
For Those, who are still doubting about it, and can't imagine, how would it all work, i suggest to watch anime SAO(sword art online). Ofc that NerveGear injects image and the rest of the information stright into your brain, but at least u can catch the idea and build an impression of how it would look like.
My Deepest respect to John Carmack(genius game engine creator) also to Palmer Luckey and his Oculus Team, and also to all of the other Companies(microsoft,sony,valve,unreal etc) for joining this project and also to all the people, who are involved in this revolutionary process of creating this amazing gadget!
P.S. Oculus should look into the future to combine VR googles with Mind control gadget(as we know, it's already created, just needs to be improved) so we would be able to avoid using of gamepad or at least be able to do more functions ingame with same amount of buttons. However improved 'Kinect' like gadget could do as well. I know it's complicated, but that's just an idea. Also can think about Electrical impulse pads integrated in come special clothes for gaming, to achieve realistic feelings(i.e. when u get hit in some ingame fight).

@_Ifchix_ I you look here on gamespot a developer of the stated that VR would need 25ms or less latency to work with any VR game or device. America's internet infrastructure would have to make great advances, until then he doesn't see a publisher willing to invest large amounts toward VR at this time.
Though there still could be some awesome single player offline games, I know I would work some overtime for.

He ruined so many skits on SNL because he couldn't even keep a straight face. I fucking hate that man.
@DrKill09 Yeah, I always thought he was one of the most corniest and weak cast members SNL ever had. Even when he used to do the Roxbury brothers' skit w/ Will Ferrell it was really only funny as hell b/c of Will. Same w/ the Cowbell bit (and Christopher Walken's is fuck boss, to boot.).
I just never really thought he was that funny. But I'll at least give him props that is the only talk show personality that actually gives the gaming world some serious coverage and he at least does seem geniune about his love of gaming (even if I think it's such a Apple posie/hipster).
Too bad I can't stand his show enough to be bothered to see those segements. His terribly corny-ass humor (or even lack thereof) makes him unbearable to deal w/ for any long period of time.

If the oculus is affordable and is comfortable and had lots of support then i may just have to buy one.

@FlyingAce1016 Basically it's like reality, you turn your head you see the game world to the left of you, turn right, look up, look down, just as you would in real life looking around. Virtual Reality, been a long time coming but we will finally have it soon!!! So much more immersion!
4 Like I've never been a PC gamer but ever since I first heard of the oculus rift I've been saving up some money for a desktop gaming PC so I can get the oculus.i've seen demo plays and this is going to be the next big thing.....I'm not even pumped up about the next PS or the XBOX.If I'm not mistaken I think that they said that the oculus is going to cost us around $300.00
@MUKUSS AFAIK the prices you see now are inflated, once they're able to manufacture it to consumers the price will go down quite a bit.

8 Like I couldn't care less about the Edge, but the Occulus Rift could end up being the next big step in gaming, assuming it's comfortable enough and affordable.
Can't wait to get my hands on one of those! The Occulus sure seems like a big deal, but Edge is just what I was looking for.

1 Like The Rift has the potential to bring a phenominal change to gaming as we know it. It's something I've wanted for a long time now but the technology just wasn't there. Flat screen 3D just doesn't cut it. The only way to really get true visual immersion is some type of headset where you can't see the edges of the screen and turning your head allows you to look around in the game world. The Rift has both of those features. Supposedly the image clarity and 3D are both very good. I can't wait to give it a try and see.
@Dasim64 What is the principal difference against virtual reality helmets that existed for decades?
1 Like @Ripper_TV @Dasim64 There has never been anything like this on the market. The technology just wasn't there. It's just now that we have displays that are both small, light, and with very good resolution to give us a light assy that provides clear images. The hardware was also not there to produce those good images. Not at a consumer level anyway. 3D has also come a long way with the change to active 3D vs the older and much less acceptable passive 3D. This set also provides peripheral vision enough that you can't see the borders of the screen as well as low latency head tracking to allow you to look around in real time. All those features together could provide an experience that hasn't been done before at a price that is acceptable to the general consumer. Right now, for me, it is all just potential as I haven't seen it in action but everything I've read about it has been very positive and early reviewers of the set have given it high praise. I'm really hopeful it will live up to those expectations but that remains to be seen.

The Oculus Rift may not be the best, and I won't call it a greatly original idea, but it is bringing a decent VR headset to the price range of average consumers. (Getting a dev kit, hopefully early March as I was an early backer)

@Pyrosa You should have seen him (try to) demo the Wii U. He looked like he'd never seen a video game before in his life. However, it's cool that the Rift is getting exposure. I think it's the future of gaming.
