The Godfather holds off Oblivion to take the UK's pole position.
This week's ELSPA official UK game sales chart as compiled by Chart Track sees The Godfather climbing to number one. Electronic Arts' movie-inspired action game replaces last week's champ, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which falls to number two. The highest new entry this week was Nintendo's Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS, followed by Far Cry Instincts Predator and Championship Manager 2006, which entered the top 10 at numbers eight and nine, respectively.
Best-selling games in the UK for the week ending April 1, 2006:

The list above ranks games across all formats according to retail sales in the UK.
Shao_Kahn, have you played Oblivion? I'm willing to bet that you haven't. Alot of us that have been trying to make it through the RPG drought are really pleased with the game, obviously. As far as flavor of the month, Morrowind is still being modded. What does that say about Oblivion, which is a superior game? I think it will be around for a long time to come. And kudos to Bethesda for making it without a multiplayer component.
Yall need to just get over the fact that obvlivion isn't the be all and end all. Hell, in a couple of months you won't even remember it, just like every other "flavor of the month" game.
well driver 4 was 7 before and yes it is better then 3 so why wouldnt it come up to 10 , ds games been selling good since launch infact ds sold faster then gbasp gba at their launches ps2 would always be top but ps3 it may change
4 360 games in the top ten. there are alot of uk'ers playing fight night. you know that if you are on xbox live.
For once that's not bad. Though Fifa Street 2 had been at the top for far too long. For shame people, for shame. Animal Crossing 6th?! That was unexpected, but not unwelcomed.
heya all well i work in the UK a game shop called GAME ironically but the godfather sadly outsold oblivion even tho thats a better game the godfather is popular with everybody where only a select ppl with play oblivion but i do agree that its better then the godfather but also animal crossin on the DS rules as well as resident evil and weve just got pheniox wright ace attorney and that game rules but yer anyways fifa street 2 shudnt be in there but thats what u get for living in a football mad nation i guess
Just to clarify, Oblivion debuted at No.1 in the UK charts last week (the second biggest selling Xbox 360 game ever!), in its second week it fell to No.2. I think another interesting piece of information is that of the top 10, 40% of the chart is made up of Xbox 360 games, which have appeared to performed consistently well in the UK, since the platforms launch.
I think that Oblivion getting into the number 2 slot in the uk game charts is an acheivment since RPG's are seen as realy nerdy here in the UK. The kind of thing where you would change the channel if you friend walked in and make out you were playing halo or gta. I happen to have Oblivion and think its great but most of my friends havent even heard of it! And that EA trash always weeds its way into the the typical chav PS2 non-hardcore gamer! no offence
Fifa Steet 2 and number 3? Heh, I see that the UKs taste in games never changes. Disappointing, really.
tbot19 -- Godfather had an extra week or so to saturate the market as well; so you 'accept' it (not' except' as you put it).
Godfather beat oblivion plain and simple....no excuses... there are also alot more PC owners than PS2...and Oblivion and Godfather numbers both include the PC ....Godfather is popular except it.
There are tons more PS2 owners then 360 'round the world, so it's a no-brainer how an EA major title on a PS2/Xbox would wind up #1. If there were as many 360 owners as there were PS2 or Xbox, Oblivion would have ate the Godfather for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and vomited it all out on a nearby Dual Shock.
