Path of Exile open beta set for January

Free-to-play action RPG to feature character customization and competitive player-versus-player options.
The free-to-play action RPG Path of Exile now has an open beta date stamped on it. Developer Grinding Gear has announced that the game will be in a public state on January 23, 2013.
The game is currently in a closed beta state, with the game's first two acts playable. When the game hits open beta, a character wipe will be done and the entire third act of the game will be added. Before the date hits, Grinding Gear will be increasing the number of beta testers, community events, and beta key giveaways. The developer has not announced the date for the full version of the game yet.
Path of Exile is a free-to-play fantasy action RPG, and according to the game's official website, features "a strong barter-based online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races."

3 Like Anyone who seriously believes that torchlight 2 or poe is better than diablo 3, is trolling...
@bonzibuddyxxx agreed ... TL2 is not worthy playing more than 80hours... and with "MOds" or (let me spell right...) "CHEATs" the game is simply the "FUN" of beeing overpowered as a "GOD"... A casual player funfare game... POE is a lot better than TL2 and have many improvements with reminds me Demon's Souls kind of atmosphere but still ages ago of D3 improved mechanics and replayability IMO... Anyway I've been playing them all and cant w8 for POE's 3rd act.
@Leonagard @bonzibuddyxxx must be kidding right? D3 and replayability ? PoE is not polished as D3 but in every other way its a superior game
This is a hell of a lot more like Diablo 2 than Diablo 3. I finished the campaign on the regular difficulty and can attest to this.
The currency in game involves trading trinkets that themselves have uses (for example a bow may cost 2 orbs of transmutation, which can be used as currency or used to convert items).
There is no gold system, which is interesting, but does in fact eliminate traditional inflation/deflation economics (at least for now, not sure how it will play out with orbs).
1 Like I just have one thing to say Path of Exile and Torchlight 2 both are copies from Diablo III doesn´t matter what kind of diferent or special options could have in that games..
@titoskywalker lets suppose you are right here. Then a question arise, how can a copy as you say has a lot more features than the original
@titoskywalker you're of course right, just like Battefield 3 is just a copy of Wolfenstein 3D, or Doom if you prefer.

A question for those who have played the closed beta: call me anti-social, but I like to play alone most of them times, especially this kind of game so can I do that or are some dungeons restricted or too hard for just 1 person (for example like in World of Warcraft) ?
@cip_raziel I've been in the closed beta for almost a year now. You can beat the whole game on your own. There are difficulty tears like in Diablo, but it's all pretty much solo-able. There are very difficult maps once you finish the game on the last difficulty however...called Maelstrom of Chaos. There are also other custom type maps that are hard but you get better rewards-similar to mapworks from Torchlight 2.
@Rimtutituki @cip_raziel good, i hate playing in groups of more then 1, it just gets counterproductive because inevitably it just turns into, how fast can u run to catch up to the guy that wants to race. i like to take my time and enjoy things.
Paaying the closed beta. Being a Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 player since there launch i agree with aovannor in reference to the POV. int could be a little lower and give just a little more view of the field.
This is a great game: My only problem is the lack of set items. Im a loot fiend - i like to complete visually appealing sets. Give it!

2 Like I've played this game to death and I love it. It has three main problems; armor variety, Free For All loot and the view.
There is a lot of armor but it all looks kinda gritty..maybe thats the tone of the game or maybe they will add more. The game's view is a little too steep and a little too close in, I hope they are going to change this but it's not a deal breaker. The FFA loot is the game breaker for me.. you will NOT want to group in this game until they do something about it, with the communities reaction to it they are almost certainly working on fixing this. If they don't they are shooting themselves in the foot.
Other than that though this is an amazing Arpg with more customization options than you could ever want. Take a look on the website at the passive skill system.. read about how you slot ALL skills into items (don't want a shield bash skill when you dont have a shield on? No problem! Slot the shield bash in the shield itself!) It does a lot of unique things and it does them extremely well. If they fix the glaring issues it will probably be the best arpg on the market.
@aovannor What do you mean FFA? As I figured it out, everyone gets their own loot, which is not that bad.
Unless they've changed it recently.. you have literally a few seconds to pick up your allocated loot before anyone can pick it up.
It doesn't work right because loot drops during a fight.. so to ensure you get all your allocated loot you have to pick it up quickly in the middle of fighting, that's if you can even see what belongs to who in all the chaos.
Have you played it? Because in theory it sounds ok but in practice it's just a mess.
I played this during closed beta, and it was an amazing title that provides the gameplay experience Diablo 3 stubbornly refused to provide. I'm getting kind of sick of these pointless delays, though. Originally, the website said open beta would start in summer 2012, and then October 2012. It's a free to play game, start the open beta earlier, don't wipe characters, and balance as you go.
hmm is this supposed to be like Diablo 2 style or something? Id be interested to hear more..
@dkdk999 I appreciate your comment. I have to ask the obligatory: gameplay-wise, how does it compare to Diablo 3 or Torchlight II, which I take to be the appropriate points of comparison?
@cjlebron @dkdk999 In terms of atmosphere/graphical style, it's more Diablo than Torchlight; though the skill systems (plural) are highly reminiscent of a pair of Final Fantasy titles: VII (for active skills), and X (for the passives). Want to know just how much there is in terms of the latter? Get a load of this:
