Sony Computer Entertainment's virtual world, Home, has been talked about, written about, and demoed for a long time now. After being announced back in March 2007 during Phil Harrison's GDC keynote address, Sony's take on the massively popular Second Life was originally planned for release in 2007 and was subsequently pushed back until early and then late 2008.
Though the game has been in a closed beta program for some time, Sony has still to announce an official release date. However, according to The Times, Home might be closer than you think. In an article published yesterday, Home is apparently "slated for release in the next 10 days." According to the British broadsheet, SCE has deliberately timed the release to coincide with increased demand for gaming hardware leading up to Christmas and is hot on the shoes of the New Xbox Experience face-lift for the Xbox 360 dashboard, which officially launched worldwide on November 19.
SCE Europe declined to comment on the rumour, or indeed confirm an official launch date, when contacted by GameSpot UK. For more on Home, read our hands-on preview from SCEE's PlayStation Day earlier this year.

"Now I was sitting, waiting, wishing...."
17th in the us or world wide because i noticed when i made a us acount the central public bit was different and they had far cry 2 places and uncharted plus a changed cinema. its unfair they get the best stuff or things before us
Wow this is gonna be awesome. Better yet if it has in world user creations like Second Life. Yall gotta check out Second Life if you have not already. It is free.
I'm in the beta but to be honest I just don't care. Maybe its because I don't know that many people who own PS3s but I think the real reason is that I just don't have the time for it and would much rather be playing games.
From what Ive heard so far this does sound cool....only hope that the community now learns to actually get a friggin headset as thats the big downside to psnetwork.Id say 1 in maybe 50 people actually communicate and thats just not good enough, try playing resistance 2 with 60 people(WHICH WOULD BE WAYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER)If only people would actually talk!!!!!!!!!! HOME is about bringing the community together and making it easier to get into games TOGETHER and sharing your experiences BUT if Im gonna be forced to TYPE everything just because not many people use a headset then its gonna kinda defeat the purpose...so PSN users get a friggin HEADSET PLEASE!!!!! Anyways bring it on Sony..and best wishes
I don't really get all the fuss about Home personally. It sounds cool but not to the point it demands a year and a half of hype and by no means should it be considered incentive to favour the console. This doesn't really appeal to me. I want a console for games on my own or with buddies who I'm in the room with, nothing more. And to whoever suggested that this generation of consoles is on the home stretch I think that's going a bit far. There will likely be a new Xbox in the next few years but I honestly think Sony are going to stick with the PS3 for the better part of a decade. It's an insanely powerful machine that allegedly most developers don't even fully understand the capabilities of, and there isn't going to be another HUGE leap in graphics in the way there has been in the past. I mean there comes a point graphics just can't get better, and we're pretty near that now, and now that conoles are wired to the net and able to receive updates and intergrate all sorts of content together, I just see this generation lasting a lot longer than past ones. The 360 in my opinion is on a lower level to the PS3, it has to work harder to achieve the same results and just isnt generally as efficient and powerful, all the new system will likely do is take a step to making things smoother. As for Nintendo... well I dunno, the Wii will probably last very long term, and they've re-invented the DS many times, so they will likely continue to try and create an army of periphirals until you're wearing a full body suit.... or maybe bring out a second console to work alongside the Wii that is the more traditonal powerful sort of gaming machine.
My brother showed me his new avatars on xbox today and said "dont you think this is cool!! playstation would never do anything like this" so beeing my little brother i didn't break it to him gently i made him youtube playtation home and handed him a tissue to weep into then made it worse by saying xbox avatars are kind of a copy of the wii's and he tried to explain how they are totaly different to the wii's i think the xbox's make people go into denial
cant wait this make ps3 way better then 360 i have a 360 and i dont even play it anymore
In the sunday times it said you can buy additional stuff like bigger and better houses, clothes, and items for ur house. so its going to be ace :D
I hope there are stuff that you must pay for, It will make you better than others in the game.
im also in the HOME beta and so far hav found nothing majorly wrong to hold it up

It's dubious and worrying Sony refuse to announce a date of release. It's been in closed beta for a while now so unless something is apocalyptically wrong with it it should be out soon. Atleast sony didn't make the player models look like bobble-heads a la NXE.
I'm in the beta for PlayStation Home and whilst I can't say anything specific about it, I can tell you that it is worth the long wait we've had! Look forward to it people!.
i think home can be good, imagine if every game had a crazy lobby like DOA4 ,or saints row 1 were when you waiting to play you can still run around and do something, even if it is just taunting. This would be good on GTA4 when you get the annoying hosts that never start the game and everyone else in the room is to returded to scroll down and vote kick them
They always make the PS3 sound worse than the 360, gamespot are jealouse of the PS3, this will be a revolutionary virtual word where you can meet people and play games with fellow gamers, at least SONY think of new innovative ideas rather than the copy and pasting Microsoft.
I'm part of the closed beta atm...i think it will get better once its released as there's currently not much to do in Home, as its a beta i think sony are mostly load testing the servers before they put it on general release. but anyways looking forward to some new content once its out properly :)
Its better be right this time !
You will be dissapointed with this -- trust me
I thing home is a great medium. Left as it is- there is no point other than being a fancy facebook, but build on the platform idea, and i think it could work nicely for everyone
Sony, please don't rush, I like the idea of home and where you guys want to go with it, but right now, it's like a corny version of the sims! Honestly, take your time, make it perfect so no one can duplicate. I think a lot of fans would agree, we can wait, we've waited this long right?
Home is a great idea, but Sony should've launched it this time last year. With industry pundits speculating about the first appearance of the next Xbox being in 2010, the current generation could well be perceived as entering the home stretch. This just seems like one of those things that maybe would have been better off being released in the early days to help boost post release sales. I tend to play my 360 more than my PS3, but Home could possibly tempt me, and many others, back into the PS3 stable.
I own both a PS3 and an XBOX360. The new XBOX Experience is great, but I think that Home will be a far more exciting experience.
Lol "don't rush it Sony" - I think they've taken that into account more than once ;) But seriously should be good, and despite what 360 fanboys say - Home is far superior to theirs. But then again maybe I like designing my own avatar and taking photos of it...
this seems like a non-life ruining and non-screwed up version of 2nd life
Looks like it could be fun - hope they get it right though. Don't rush it Sony
lol when home launches our higher computing class is even talking about doing a supported study in home.Which could be a lot of fun.Since theres only 10 in th class and 7 own PS3s including the teacher so we came up with the novel idea. also i hope it does launch soon since i really want to see it working.
Awesome. I'd still rather have it later and perfect than now and not perfect...

i doubt this is the right date they always change it and dont you think sony would of told us
I'm in the semi-open Home beta now, and I really haven't done much in it. There's very little as far as options are concerned for housing, furniture, accessories, clothing, or just straight up things to do in the public place. Maybe when the full open beta comes out I'll actually have something to do in it.
Beta says they have a lot of work to do, take this with a grain of salt PLEASE
HOME is where the heart is
hell yes remember its just a beta prototype it should be way different but not that much
its gonna be a lot longer. judging from the beta its nowhere near finished.
I have a feeling that Home will generate a lot of third party material/participation which will create more and more things to do. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking about educational seminars, immersive language experiences, and an e-conomy similar to that of Second Life. Home will reach a lot more users a lot faster than Second Life, and in doing so may completely revolutionize internet socializing. I'm sure spaces will be created for groups to talk about unusual or very specific interests. Not to mention, they'll constantly be adding new content, and provided they employ seamless integration with Sony-published games like they talked about with Warhawk, I don't think people will be disappointed. It may take a while but I'm excited for the potential of Home.
Only ever play Singstar on my PS3, so I guess my house will be full of music!!!
WoW by the 17th theres still a lot of things needed- The beta is ok
Home may be a nice way to interact, but judging by the way my friends on PSN who are in the beta aren't impressed... I'm at a standstill on my judgement. Why build something SO BIG and have nothing to really do but twiddle your thumbs? O_o Oh and bowl...
i aint moanin been in the beta for about 2 weeks not bad actually needs more things to do n who cares its free aint it
the beta is cool but i have better things to do with my ps3 than playing Home.
I urge you all to not look at Home as a game. Just view it as an expanded, 3-D, interactive XMB. There is no real way to say "not impressed" because an upgrade is still an improvement. It in no way makes things "worse." If you want to spend lots of time on here like Second Life or The Sims, then good, but if you don't, you still can just jump in, learn about the newest games, trailers, or demos, connect with friends, then jump out.
all i can really say is you'll need a keyboard cos its hard to type useing the ps3 controller
So, which day do I call in sick? Will this be 1am EST on the 17th? CMON!! I need to know what day to call in sick at work!!! :P
i'm on the beta as well.. i'm not that impressed.. but i have nothing to compare it too as i've never done second life..
I still want Home but Sony has killed my excitement over the thing by making me wait a year and a half.
I am in the beta right now, and it isnt that great. Lets hope we see improvements when it launches.
make a big fuss? why would they do that? ever think of it as a present to all us PS3 owners? =D who wants a cool surprise like that ruined =)
I call dibs on Dec. 14
Its good that its comming out, but I'll be busy playing games not Home
it just says dec 17.... they forgot to attach the year 2009 to the end...
